A Mixed Bag of Fun and Frustration
Pinehurst Golf Club, located conveniently near Bangkok, is a popular choice for golfers seeking a mix of entertainment and challenge. Having played this course several times, I can say it’s a unique experience, but not without its quirks. The club offers three courses, with the standout being the par-3 sky tee-off from the second floor—a novelty that never fails to impress. The layout is a blend of doglegs, bunkers, and water hazards, testing your precision and patience in equal measure. The green speed is fast, around 9+, giving you the thrill of putting on what feels like a supercar’s hood.
The caddies are the highlight here—friendly, chatty, and even entertaining if you’re in the mood for some lighthearted banter. They know the lines well and can make club recommendations that save your round. Plus, the ข้าวขาหมู (braised pork leg rice) at the starter cafeteria is a must-try—it’s a delicious pick-me-up after battling the greens.
However, the course can be chaotic, especially during weekends and night golf. Overcrowding is a recurring issue, and a lack of marshals often leads to slow play. On one occasion, I had the misfortune of encountering a group behind us hitting balls while we were still on the fairway—not once, but multiple times! Safety seemed optional that day. It’s baffling that caddies would allow such behavior, and despite lodging a complaint, it left a sour taste in what could have been an enjoyable round.
The facilities are decent, with a good clubhouse and ample parking, even including EV charging stations. That said, the course conditions can be hit-or-miss. With its popularity, wear and tear are evident, particularly on the greens where unrepaired divots abound. Add to this the occasional sight of drunk golfers singing more than swinging, and you’ve got a mix of amusing and frustrating moments.
Overall, Pinehurst has its charm, but it demands patience and a sense of humor. It’s great for the experience but not without its drawbacks. Play it for the unique features, the caddies, and the food—but brace yourself for the...
Read moreOn their website they don't say they charge any extra for foreigners to play night golf... Called up booked - my Thai friend said the lady confirmed there would be no extra charge for night golf, he also said she was quite rude on the phone with one word answers: 'yes' ... 'no' ... 'yes' ... 'no', not very informative in general. When we got there - my friend and I had to pay an extra 500 baht for night golf, the lady was also quite rude and just said we had to pay - after a 40 min journey to get there we were obviously going to pay, but I suspect she had a nice meal out on our expense. Golf itself was good - my caddy was great, but my Thai friend said the other caddies were rude to her and not friendly to her. But hey ho, i'll stay out of internal politics. The first 9 holes we played (West Course) had amazing greens - nice and fast. Back 9 were a bit older and less looked after (North Course). Shower and clubhouse a bit outdated and not the cleanest. Would have been 4 star if it wasn't for charging extra for foreigners, btw - total we paid was 1800 green fee, 300 caddy, 450 each for shared carts. Over 2500 baht before caddy tip etc, you're better off going to Panya Indra or Summit Windmill...
edit: having just spoken to my friend, he paid 1100 green fee, so actually we paid an extra 700 baht for foreigner night golf?!?!? I think the lady didn't just have a nice meal on us, but probably popped a couple bottles of...
Read moreI didn't stay at the hotel but went there to play golf and used their club house facilities. To summarize, there are pros and cons I have observed. ||Pros|- golf course itself is well-maintained, the surrounding also looks nice.|- the Thai food served at the restaurant is good and reasonably charged.|||Cons|- the club house facilities are very much run down and the decor made me felt like I was in the 70s. The restroom got some weird smell.|- the location is far, about 45 mins drive away for Bangkok city center|- the service needs lots of improvement. Unlike other hotels or golf country clubs, no one ever cared or offered help in taking care of my luggage or calling for a taxi. When I tried to ask the club house lady to call me a taxi to go back to Bangkok CBD, she just called the bell guy 30 steps away to do it. The bell guy did not do anything until I walked in front of him and asked him to call for a taxi. The bell guy then outsourced the work to another guy (not hotel staff) to ride on a motorbike to get a taxi outside. This motorbike guy charged 30 baht for his service. It is just funny to experience how the staff pushing the responsibilities around. In substance, the lady and the bell guy did nothing. ||In short, just playing golf there is fine but definitely not for staying at the hotel. Staff are...
