This guesthouse is in an excellent location right on the Mekong River with a Promenade running along the river in front of the backside of the g.h. so great views! But I have to say the service was terrible. The staff person did not speak English, and after my initial check-in, I did not see any staff person until near the end of my second day. (There were also no other guests staying there during my visit). The guesthouse only has 7 rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors - no elevator, just lots of stairs. ||||No map provided - in Thai or English, I was not told there was a laptop at the guesthouse that I could have used, so I had to walk 32 sois (blocks) there and back to an internet cafe each day, to send important emails and get information about the town. On the second day, after walking all the way to the cafe, they told me "internet not working".... so that was a wasted trip. (The internet service can be a bit sketchy in the small towns in the northeast.) I have a disability (bad knees), so this was a problem for me. I assume that most other guesthouses would have a laptop available for use - unfortunately the place I stayed did, but didn't advise me of that... Didn't advise me of anything really, just handed me the key and that was it... Not impressed! I was also not given any information on where to eat, where to buy fresh fruit, etc. It was a bizarre situation that I made the best of. ||||The highlight of this guesthouse is the "Riverview" room on the second floor which I booked several weeks ahead of time. It was perfect - fantastic views of the river and Laos across the way, views of people on the promenade, a little balcony with a couple of chairs to sit and watch the sunsets... lovely floor to ceiling French windows so I could lie in bed and look out at the view. Basic room though, with small fridge, a/c, tv, shower. I paid about 1000 baht per night,||||The town itself was very quiet during the days and lit up like a fairy land at night! Some very nice temples, and the evenings were definitely the fun time for me - everyone was out and the shops were open and you could walk into restaurants off the promenade and sit at a table right on the promenade to eat if you wanted... I loved this place at night! Only stayed 2 days. I don't think I would stay at this g.h, again. Be prepared that most of the locals in the town don't speak English. The main road beside the guesthouse has no transport available (I didn't know this) - so no tuktuks, or taxis or bus or anything. 3 blocks over and paralell to this street is the main avenue with lots of transport. (I didn't find this out until late on the second day,... That was a real hassle, as there were parts of the city i would like to have seen and didn't even know about them until too late. ||||My suggestion would be to (1) learn a few good handy phrases in Thai, and (2) print out a map of the town in English before you get there.||||There are so many guesthouses in Chiang Khan that you probably wouldn't need to make a reservation ahead of time, just show up and walk along and pick the one you like! There are many very nice guesthouses in this town - lovely teak wood, some up on stilts - very nice. As for Muiphang G.H., I don't recommend it - service was pretty much...

Read moreMuiphang is a tiny guest house, 2 mins walk to the famous night shopping street. It offers only 2 rooms with a river view. The best (and the most expensive) room is on the second floor. Each room is named as flower, the best one is Peony or Botan in Thai language. I reviewed the trip advisor to get the name and finally success to book and stay there for 2 nights. The panoramic view from a private balcony is amazing. I enjoy very much the river view, and observe local people along the river-side walk way. Though there are plenty of guest house like this at the waling street, but it is not serene, the river walk way is relative small, and the view the not that nice. I think this guest house is a good choice and I have a pleasant stay and...
