I arrived in Chiangkan on January 11, 2022 at 11:00, my cell phone ran out of battery and I can't remember the name of the hotel. I decided to have lunch while charging my phone. Luckily I met Khun Dhong who was willing to lend me his power-bank.
We exchanged stories for a while and it turned out that he had visited Indonesia, to be precise, to my hometown, Bandung-West Java, about 3 years ago as an exchange student.
Khun Dhong also offered me some of the best seller menus for me to try because he knew that I couldn't eat plara. I finally ordered 3 best seller menus according to the picture I uploaded.
*The first menu is Chiangkan's Tom Yum Fish. The taste is very subtle, a bit different from the Bangkok style and of course spicy
The 2nd menu is Fermented Fried Fish. I've never had this menu before and I love it. It is very tasty and I love the bitter taste caused by the fermentation process.
*The third menu is Sweet and Spicy Fish. The fish is so fresh and the sweetness is balanced with the spiciness.
Well, this is my third time visiting this restaurant. The main reason that makes me keep coming back to this restaurant is because they have fresh Mekong river fish and rich seasoning and "ENAK=AROI Maak" is suitable for Spicy lovers and for Muslim brothers who must consume Halal food.
Thank you for the kindness and hospitality of khun Dhong (Pardon for the misspelling). Finally I found my hotel and you even told me the name of the hotel owner hahaha....
I highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Chiangkhan-Loei. Must try! Terima kasih dan Hatur Nuhun 🙏🏻...
Read moreThis place is easily crowded with customers in the evenings. They claimed that the food here is authentic Chiangkhan style. It looks like what they said. Some of the menus are really unique.
However, the taste is another thing. Firstly, I ordered a glass of lemongrass drink and requested a non-sweet one. She said yes. But it was very sweet when I tasted it. Obviously it was added with some sugar. I reminded the staff that I ordered a non-sweet one. She said yes and told me that most people said that this is a non-sweet lemongrass. I didn't know what to say but I asked her that can I cancel it. She brought another staff, probably her supervisor, that staff asked me whether I drank it already? I said of course, if not then how I know it's sweet??? She said if the customer drank it then they cannot cancel. Whatll!!! However, It was as if they realized that it was nonsense so they decided to cancel it.
Secondly, I ordered a bowl of beef soup and I asked if it's possible to separate the chillis? She said the soup is not spicy so no need to separate the chillis. Again, when it was served the whole bowl of soup was filled with a lot of chillis. Too tired to complain. I then just ate it desperately.
Finally, I think they put a lot of MSG into the food. I felt a crack of MSG powder in my mouth when I was chewing stir...
Read moreThis restaurant is located near the Khong river. Inside the restaurant is narrow but feel comforted. At night time you will get some fresh air from the river and the weather is cold especially when there is wind. There's a restaurant boat (I don't know how to call it) driving along the river and also has karaoke for customers. These photos show what I tried. Most of them are recommended dish. I try various kind of food here. The taste is really good but a little bit spicy. If you can't eat much spicy, I suggest you to tell the waiters to...
