This is one of those 'old dame' hotels which often are either a great experience or a total miss, Songphanburi was one of the few that was both good and bad.
Let's start with the good: We stayed 3 nights in a standard room, which was big, had a decent mattress, and besides some weird stains on the bathroom walls it was reasonably clean. The staff was friendly and at spoke some basic English. There's plenty of parking, some covered, and the location is off the main road – which we hoped would eliminate street noise (well, it didn't really – read more about that bellow). The room seems to have received a few upgrades, such as new floor tiles and a flat screen TV. Our room rate on Agoda (

It's one of those old big hotels which seem to be built to last without needing major upgrades for decades, for good or worse (reminded me of the "Nasa Vegas" hotel in Bangkok). The room was clean and didn't smell anything (Thai hotel rooms often smell of either molds, cleaning chemicals or "air fresheners"). This one was neutral, which is a big big plus. The aircon was old but not noisy on the lowest setting, also a big big plus. The bed was hard and sheets were old but clean, pillows hard but at least one of the three was sleepable. Toilet clean and ok, could use some minor repairs of the shower head and faucet drain plug. Supposedly has a pool which we didn't have time to use. A few nearby simple local restaurants open until at least 10pm.
All in all an okay stay for a night or two, but nothing spectacular. Could have been a lot cheaper though, paid 1100 baht for a double room including breakfast. I'd say a reasonable price would have been 700 baht, considering the age of the building and room and it's location (it's not exactly Bangkok, but still more than...

This our new favourite place to stay when in Supanburi. For me, it has a swimming pool which is exceptionally rare in a hotel in Supanburi city. Helpful friendly staff, efficient and reasonably priced laundry service. It is located next to the clock tower, local landmark. There are eating establishments within walking distance, and 7-11 around the corner. There is a cool sheltered underground car park, another plus. We will be staying again, and family...
