Don’t let the westernized name "CHEER" fool you, it's no place for foreigners, but a depressingly Thai managed hotel with all the accoutrements of Thai-Trendy-Boutique weirdness, such as no furniture in the room. Self-proclaimed budget at 900 baht, but not really for the area, the only nod to western comforts is hot water in the shower- but not for the " Rain Shower" head, only cold rain at the Maison De CHEER.
The rooms are large enough for bedside tables, and could even accommodate a chair or two, but it seems the new trend in the Thai hospitality industry is to force guests to sit on the floor with their belongings. The rooms featured some costly décor accents such as an attractive multi-post room divider/ sideboard that serves as TV base, vanity, luggage rack, desk, dining and reading table- but with no chair. It it seems these sort of aesthetics over actual comfort and function remain intact as one of the major western vs. Thai divides. Even the slightly larger “Deluxe”room is void of furnishings. There is no hot water kettle and even bottled water is to be paid for. Anyone under 160 cm tall would be unable to reach the clothes hangers as it the pole was attached far too high. The hotel is new and so offers the also "Thai Trendy Boutique" lip service to ecology in way of an “Eco lounge” which is really a somewhat hot atrium with five or so lonely potted plants, a few scattered and uncomfortable chairs, replete with a corner of the room being utilized for junk storage. It does serve as a depot for borrowing a small table and chair - for use in the room. I did appreciate the refillable soap and shampoo dispensers but undoubtedly this is for economical, not ecological considerations. In fact, the hotel is so new, one wonders how it got away with NO SMOKE DETECTORS and a completely useless, even DANGEROUS FIRE EVACUATION PLAN. From the upper floors one stairway leads into the center of the second floor, with the remaining escape route about 30 meters away- around a corner- with no indicator signs leading to it. Breakfast was almost inedible. No choice but cold fried rice mixed with cold mystery meat w/ a side of cold, runny fried egg both were already on the table when I arrived. Even the instant coffee was unappetizing with sugar and fake creamer already added. I was dismayed to find the 14 or so TV channels were of the very same Thai news/chat show, with one English channel- which- not kidding, was a US Baptist evangelical/crucifix sales channel-The Jesus Channel. When I asked- or rather motioned the TV was not satisfactory, the desk clerk giggled (Thais giggle annoyingly in way of response to any kind of situation they are unable to understand or resolve...) while calling the English speaking manager on the phone who informed me the “ IT person had left for the day..” However, I found upon going to the TV’s servicing menu I could actually reset the stations so at least the 14 Thai channels varied, even got a Hollywood hits movie channel, but sadly, it was dubbed in Thai language. Not one TV channel was in English- except the Jesus channel. The side of the hotel apparently serves as a goods depot for a local market with leering workers who snarled “Go back home” when I answered a question about my nationality. Parking is limited. The front rooms face a railroad track, the rear rooms face a temple complex that was burning off garbage, the smell of which was noticeable in the room as were the at- dawn, crowing roosters. I was on the fourth floor. It is situated across from the Fri- Sun night market, ( women's size 7 and under used clothing, mostly.)
The Maison De CHEER website booking form does not work, the website contact forms do not function. Email at Hotmail is not answered. Finally I was able to contact management through Facebook, it took 21 lines of correspondence to finally get directions- none of which include distances or the simple fact the hotel is located next to a national Library- a...

We stayed here from the 9/03/24 through to the 11/03/24. A two night stay as we travelled back from Pak Meng Beach & then were travelling onto Patong on the 11/03/24. Check in was smooth & efficient & only Credit card or the Thai QR code system was accepted as payment. I used credit card as I don’t have access to the Thai QR code system. Our room was ready & we were able to check in at 12.30PM. Our room was 421 facing the rear of the property & I would suggest that if you have the opportunity, You should book a rear room as the road past the hotel is quite busy. In reception area there is tea/coffee facilities for free & ample seating if you must wait for anyone. There are toilets there as well. The breakfast area is behind a glass partition & hours for breakfast are 7-10am. Breakfast is a set menu & is 75THB=$AUD3.18. elevator in operation at the hotel & there is 5 floors. Concierge brought our bags to the room, set up the A/C & made sure everything was good. As we have found with most SE Asian beds, they were a little hard, so I went back down to the reception & requested pillow toppers for the beds & that was no problem for them to do so. A/C kept the room cool as the temperature whist in Trung was 38,39 Deg C for the two days. Our room configuration was two single beds, but they were quite spacious. Fridge kept the drinks cold & there were multiple power points available to charge devices. Bathroom area was quite good & the shower as reported before in my reviews was a wall heater for the hot water & it also had a separate cold-water shower. Amenities (shampoo, toilet paper, hand wash supplied & room serviced daily. There is a courtyard on the 4th floor that is a great place to just sit & relax as well. Location is a key point with Maison as it is just across the railway lines from the Train station. You can cross the railway tracks to get to Maison but please check for trains as you go once at the station there is a night market Friday, Saturday & Sunday night from 5PM & they have awesome food & shopping. Maison De Cheer was for us great...
Read moreI’ve been travelling in SE Asia for two months and this is one of the best places I have stayed in! I can not believe some of the reviews I read about this place as it is honestly really good! ||I got a room on the 5th floor with a view and balcony. Booked 2 nights but extended my stay. ||Room is big with good bathroom with hot and cold shower. Room has lots lf space and hanging rack. Good AC, TV and small fidge with complementary juice and green tea and water plus small snacks. Bed is really comfortable. ||American breakfast was good with fried egg, sausage, toast, salad, jam, banana and coffee. ||There is no reason to feel unsafe as there are cctv cameras in every corner. So would be very hard to try and break in as some review suggested. ||When I arrived I was quite ill with a fever. The next day I had to go to the hospital and the staff was very helpfull. I got a ride to the hospital and back and was even taken out for food after the hospital so that I could take my medicine. They took good care of me as I was ill and as I was travelling alone I truly appreciate it. ||The only teeny tiny down side is the TV only has thai channels. I probably would not have noticed if I wasn’t sick and stuck in the room for several days. As I hardly watch tv while travelling. ||All and all I would truly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Trang. I was in a another hotel in town before and this was far better for the...
