I stayed at Swissotel between Aug 28 and Sept 3, 2025 with my mother. I have stayed at this hotel probably 7 or 8 summers each time for a week when this hotel was a Sheraton. The beach and the sea are unbeatable. If you like shallow waters that hit this sweet spot between tepid and cool, this is the beach to be. Sheraton used to rely too much on the beach, and so does Swissotel. In fact, much to my disappointment, this hotel, although new and shiny, is a worse version of Sheraton. ||Let me be specific:|1. The hotel is not built to accommodate people who are actually at the hotel to swim. Neither the pool nor the beach area is built with actual swimmers in mind. The floor tiles all around the pool area are the most slippery you can imagine. And they are always wet... No one mops... There is no system for any of the pooled water to flow to... I believe the expectation is that the water will evaporate... Well, it does not. And people keep slipping, a lot. I have watched families with older family members and family members with various disabilities try to navigate the perilous skating rink that is the poolside. The spa isn't different. Incredibly slippery. At least at the spa, there is some effort to make it less perilous (a few mats on the floors between the pools), but the outside pool, they just don't care.|2. Actually, all the hotel seems to care about is that you consume as much as you can at the cafes and restaurants. And believe me, we have. We had 2 dinners and 3 lunches at the hotel, if not more. We had numerous drinks by the pool or after dinner... of course, they are extras. And that is ALL FINE. Again, the problem is that no one cares that you are there to swim. They said there were showers by the beach, I did not see them. If they exist, they are not easy to spot. I used the beach for 6 days. If you walk from your lounge chair by the pool area to the beach, you NEED to pass between tables of the two cafes. There is actually a narrow walkway; they could have left it unoccupied by cafe tables, but no, they put high and low tables there, too. Imagine that you are wet coming back from the sea to your lounge chair by the pool. The walk of shame, dripping water among people enjoying their meals, is uncomfortable. |3. When you ask a question, the staff are more interested in talking (and talking forever) than solving a problem. I was given a sheet of paper to sign at the reception at check-in. I asked what was written, as it was very small letters and kind of gray scale, and hard to read under the kind of lighting present. The young lady at the counter smiled and said, "Just take a picture, you can read it in the room if you wish, but for now you will need to sign it". I smiled back and said, "Why don't you go point by point and paraphrase it to me". She was shocked. There are numerous examples at the cafe, restaurant, and reception, where somehow the staff thinks giving any answer will suffice instead of finding a solution. I really am not someone with outrageous requests. One request was for a non-scratched glass to drink water. Because the one that I was given was so scratched, it looked horribly dirty, as if it had not been washed. I listened to a 10-minute tirade about polycarbonate glasses, why they are being used by the pool, but yes, the hotel has not purchased the best grade, and in the dishwasher, they are horribly scratched, and oh! did I know that they served their manager in the exact glass I had received, so that he would see the condition of the glasses. But the manager did not care… |4. At checkout, they sent someone up to the room to check the minibar. They already withhold a large amount for extras from the credit card. And we were under the amount. So, we weren’t supposed to pay. After a while, the receptionist said, we were set to go. I asked for a copy of all extras. Essentially, the bill. She smiled, surprised, and said, “Oh, you want a copy”? Mind you, it is not like they email it to you either. We asked about the minibar and she said, “Oh, nothing much, a water, nuts, and chocolate”. Well, we didn’t have nuts or chocolate. This is not how it is done.|5. I talked to both a member of the guest relations team and the manager. No one ever took notes. I asked whether I could write a review, and they said I would receive one in my email. It has been 5 days since I left, and there has been no email. So here it is on TripAdvisor.|As a final note, I like and regularly stay at Izmir Swissotel. It is actually my favorite in the city. This hotel is almost like a copy of it. However, what works in a city hotel does not work in a resort hotel. The mindset needs to be different. The hotel should be striving to attract regulars who feel they are happy to spend an extended time on a seaside holiday. I am not...
Read moreBeautiful hotel but some key issues need addressing
We recently stayed at Swissôtel Çeşme and overall had a mixed experience.
Let’s start with the positives: the hotel itself is absolutely stunning – modern, beautifully designed, and immaculately clean. It’s clearly a relatively new property (I believe it’s in its third year), and the rooms are well-appointed with everything you need. Housekeeping was consistent, and two bottles of complimentary water were provided daily.
The staff were a standout. Every single person we interacted with was kind, welcoming, and genuinely eager to help. The breakfast buffet was fantastic – a huge variety of fresh, high-quality options. Another huge plus was the WhatsApp support system the hotel offers. It’s such a clever and convenient way to get assistance or ask questions at any time, and it really made a difference during our stay.
That said, there were some significant downsides that impacted our overall experience:
Wi-Fi: The biggest issue for us. The connection was extremely unreliable throughout the entire property. It would drop constantly and was virtually unusable at times. Despite multiple attempts by staff and IT support to resolve it, nothing worked, and we ended up having to rely on our own mobile data. Room placement: Initially, we were placed on the 2nd floor, where several families with young children were also staying. Unfortunately, this meant listening to a child crying late into the night and early morning, which was very disruptive. It was surprising that there wasn’t a more thoughtful approach to room assignments – for example, placing families with small children on designated family floors. After raising our concerns, the hotel did respond positively and moved us to a quieter room on the 4th floor, which we appreciated. Air conditioning: The AC worked perfectly in our first room, but once we were moved upstairs, the air conditioning in the new room wasn’t functioning well at all, which was disappointing, especially in the summer heat. Hot water: In our original room, the shower water never got beyond lukewarm, which was frustrating. Oddly enough, this issue was resolved in the second room on the 4th floor, where the hot water worked perfectly. Pricing: While we understand this is a luxury property, the prices were very steep – especially considering that many services and items are priced in Euros rather than Turkish Lira. It made everything feel unnecessarily expensive, from food and drinks to basic amenities.
In summary, Swissôtel Çeşme has a lot going for it – beautiful design, excellent staff, and high-end facilities – but there are some operational issues that really need to be addressed, particularly for a hotel at this price point. With some improvements, it could truly live up to its...
