Really didn't think much of our holiday. Came for 2 weeks. 13th-27th August. First impressions. Beautiful hotel. Bright and airy. When we arrived we had our suitcases sanitised to help prevent transmission of covid. We checked in smoothly and were taken to our room. Our room was clean and spacious. Throughout our holiday we found that due to covid, our holiday wasn't going to be the holiday we booked. The food was awful. We had to eat out every day because we just couldn't stomach the food. The A là carte was closed which we were looking forward to for our daughters birthday. There was no entertainments team allowed although Mete did his best to try to keep everyone amused. There was the odd game of darts and a few aqua aerobics through the 2 weeks. There was also a couple of games of bingo and 2 music quizes. Not a lot for 2 weeks. Some days there were nothing. The spa....👨🔬👩🔬 we never actually used the spa so couldn't comment on that. Couldnt have been that busy though because most of the day they were stood in the doorway to the hotel smoking (not very professional if you ask me) . Didn’t use photographer either. Just told him we will use our phones and he left us alone for the rest of the holiday. The restaurant.....👨🍳👩🍳 to be honest the food was awful. Either meatballs, chicken or pasta. Plenty of fresh fruit to choose from but thats not enough for a foodie 🙊. Was the same foods day in day out. We used to eat out at Oscars down the road. Really worth a visit. The pool.....🧜♀️🧜♂️ lush!! When the temp was in the high 40s there is nothing better than to spend the day in the pool, was too hot for anything else. The slides are OK but the grumpy lifeguard at the top loves his whistle (I'm sure he used to be a raver in his time). The hotel...🏢 clean and well looked after. Staff always had a friendly eye blink for you (couldn't see them smile for masks). No air-conditioning in main building due to covid. Personally the clue is in the name so I would have presumed that this was ok 🤷🏻♀️. The beach ... 🏝🏖Typical Turkish beach. Gritty with small pebbles. Gets a bit rocky as you enter the sea. If you swim out in the sea it gets grassy on the bottom. There are fish by the edge which can nibble at you. They aren't too bad if you keep moving. Drinks... typical all inclusive. Not very strong. We take our own from duty free 😁. I don't think that we will be returning to this hotel again. Felt totally let down as we weren't prepared for any differences. The only thing we were told about was that there were no kids clubs which we didn't mind. We met some amazing people here which I am grateful for. At one point there were 15 of us all heading out to eat together. Ice-cream... 🍦🍦this is available free of charge between 4 and 6pm. It's lush!! Some of the best ice-cream I have ever had. Pistachio and caramel was my daily favourite. Rooms.. our room was spacious and was cleaned every say. On 10 of the 14 days we got decorations on our beds made from towels and blankets. Our house maid was great. There is Airton in the room which is free. You have to make sure your balcony door is closed which didn't help us as half of the time it wouldn't register as closed. We had to keep slamming the door. We reported this and someone came and locked the door but once unlocked again it wouldn't close enough to lock. Wasn't too worried as we were 4 floors up and balconies cannot be easily reached from other balconies. There is a safe in the room with a €2 daily charge, ours stopped working and the engineer told us how to override it. Tried it in our daughters room and it worked in theirs too so not very safe. Their is also a fridge that has fresh water every day and also a kettle. They refresh your tea, coffee, sugar etc every day. We were told that we didn't need to wear masks around the hotel and to just ignore the signs as they were just to please the government. Now I believe you have to wear them everywhere. The shop onsite is a rip off. If you want anything go outside of the hotel. I won't...
Read moreJust perfect! My husband and I spent a week here 05/09-12/09. It is a 2 hour transfer from Dalaman Airport but it’s smooth. On arriving, we were greeted by a friendly team and check in was easy. I had three questions: using the safe, late check out procedure and getting a second key card. I was told to return in the morning for more info. Suitcases brought to the room and we were taken care of immediately. The room is lovely! Seen some reviews about cleanliness and outdated… this is not the case. Cosy, large, clean, all amenities, lots of bottled water in fridge. Room has a single bed too. and THE VIEW… stunning! I paid for a sea view but also asked my holiday organiser to request “high up with pool view” and that’s what we got! Same cleaner came everyday, always happy, left notes and decorations. Please readers: pay for the safe. It’s so cheap and more important to keep your valuables locked away. Anyone complaining about the safe charge is looking for issues - it’s not a big deal. Swimming pool is big, don’t let the reviews fool you. It feels small because the area around it is large AND it’s a hotel in the town, but they utilise the space well! Plenty of sun beds, people do reserve beds (we enjoyed watching the men walk down any time from 1am onwards) but you will find a bed OR just ask the staff to bring a stacked bed down for you, they are happy to help. The beach is private and really close. Plenty of beds there too. The slides are for everyone. You’ll make the slide supervisor’s day, he’s there everyday in the sun ready to have a laugh. Entertainment is surprisingly good. Not cheesy! I usually avoid forced entertainment but day and night we were hooked. The entertainment team are really funny. The night time entertainment was also a positive surprise! We had singers who had everyone dancing, circus act, Michael Jackson act (I know, but it was actually great). It starts at 9:30pm.
Marmaris: what a place! I’d had mixed reactions when I told people I was going there. Most told me how bad the shop workers harass you and bother you. Don’t. Believe. A. Word. Of. It. Yes they ask you to come and have a look but I found the word “no” very helpful. My husband fell in love with the place. We recommend the Taj Mahal restaurant about half an hour walk away from the hotel. As a Bengali, English, multi-cultural couple, we felt safe and happy around the area and respected all of the time. My ONE NEGATIVE point for the hotel is the late checkout procedure: I asked on arrival for information and was told to come on the day we left by 10am to extend the check out time. Two days before leaving I asked again for reassurance and was told with a smile that I could come in the morning on the day we were leaving and pay to have late check out. On the day of leaving, I went down at 9am and was asked to come back an hour later due it being busy. I waited and came back only to be told “not possible” by a young girl on reception. I went quiet… she responded by saying my room was needed. I hate complaining. I usually walk away but on this occasion I explained that I had asked 3 times and was told to do it on the last day. Of course my room would be needed, it’s a hotel… that seems a stupid system. In previous hotels I was told to come the day before check out to find out if it was possible or not depending on when the room was next in use. The girl came back, having spoken to someone in the office and let me pay for it. I understand the room might be needed but it might be helpful to customers if the hotel was able to tell us at least the day before if our room is available or not. It wasn’t even that I was told all week maybe, maybe not, I was reassured that I could come and pay for it on the day of leaving. Late check out is 4pm and cost €60.
Overall this was the best holiday yet! We usually like to book new hotels and areas each year but have both admitted we want to book the Golden Rock Beach Hotel again for 10 days as 7...
Read moreJust home from 1 week all inclusive at the Golden Rock...beautiful hotel, daily housekeeping, room was spotless, food was delicious, location very good for beach access and shopping... On arrival the reception staff were unwelcoming. Given that our arrival was in the early hours it's safe to say they weren't rushed off there feet but made us feel that we had inconvenienced them. Our room was spotlessly clean and the maids were in every day with fresh towels ect. Unfortunately the mattress was harder than I like and there were no sheets, there were two small woven blankets on the bed which proved too warm to sleep with. Food was lovely and a great choice to suit everyone...I would have liked a sign on every choice to allow me to choose my meal, the main meals did have signs on most dishes but unfortunately not all were correct, I did choose what I thought was a chicken pastry but found it to be fish, this is something I wouldn't have chosen had I known. On arrival for evening meal it was like a stampede...people were literally pushing and shoving to get into the restaurant...waiters had allocated tables and we soon became aware who the best waiters were. Nizametti was excellent...always smiling and happy to assist in any way he could. On his night off we had to look for our own cutlery, clear the table of dishes used by the previous diners and go to the bar for our drink. The food served at the pool side for lunch was nice but unfortunately one of the choices was carbonara and although the sauce was there the pasta was missing, i did let the chef know but unfortunately he didnt make any more pasta! The pool side was adequate although it could be doing with a good clean. Although we were able to get sun loungers we did notice that guests had reserved loungers by placing towels on them and then they didnt appear till mid afternoon...this resulted in other guests being unable to sun bathe by the pool. The entertainment was ok but the whistle used by the entertainment team did become annoying very quickly. Although all of the team were very friendly and I appreciate they have a job to do, I didnt appreciate being asked every 30 minutes if I wanted to join in there entertainment especially when they came into the restaurant at meal times and interrupted your meal to ask the same question!!! Bar staff by the pool were kept busy and most were friendly but unfortunately a few were rude, pretending to not understand your language when asked a question, on other occasions they were able to converse with no issue. The bar staff within the reception area were rude and very unfriendly. Unfortunately the toilets within the pool area smelled and weren't very clean. I did notice they have a record of when theyd been checked but I found this extremely inaccurate due the fact that the same used toilet paper was under the wash basin for 3 days!!! On our final day we checked out at lunchtime but our transfer wasnt until 8.30pm. Our luggage was put in the luggage room which was unlocked and out of sight from reception staff, I felt this wasnt very safe but I did leave my luggage anyway. We enjoyed our last day at the pool and were allowed to use the spa shower to freshen up and change. On arrival one of the spa team was finishing showering and once she left I used the room. The floor was very wet and the wash basins weren't very clean but I prepared to shower...on entering the cubicle I noticed 8 empty bottles of shower gel/shampoo lying on the shower base along with a soiled pair of knickers!!! I very quickly showered, dried and dressed and alerted the staff to my finding...to say they weren't interested is an understatement...the man I told shrugged and proceeded to the pool area to have a smoke! I was really annoyed especially when the previous person to shower was actually an employee!!!
All in all we did enjoy our holiday but until basic cleanliness and customer service is improved we certainly would not return to...
