My first ever accommodation comment was inspired by the front desk woman who just should not be in anything related to the hospitality business.||Upon checkin, they had not honored my reservation that the other front desk person, Salih, had happily taken 3 days before for New Years Eve. This was 3 days after i had been shown the place by Salih, and all the possibilities for New Years Eve stay were worked out. ||The woman simply looked at her room sheet and told me with no concern at all, "We're Full". no sorry or an inkling of becoming surprisingly homeless a person might feel, much less on New Years. Only insisting on the subject got her to call the owner and eventually Salih. Of course this was a futile waste of time that got the same response, "We're Full". ||Further resistance to this finally generated an option that actually seemed to work out at first in their Pension down the street. A beautiful room, nice and warm, saved my evening from being a total, overbooked hunting around on crutches (Broken Leg which obviously meant Nothing to her) disaster. ||Complete with Wifi (so i could still connect with world wide friends) they were completely confused about the real passcode (more running around) and no connection till late the next morning. Coming to the most rudimentary breakfast (Chose to pay and loin friends at "Naya") i was informed rigidly the 13:00 checkout. Any attempt to get an extra hour, especially with all that had happened, was met with a "what are you kidding? attitude of 'No". So i shared curtly with them what i'm sharing with you here, and compared them to Eskibag Hotel, (their Neighbor who gives exemplary service) to her uncaring disinterest. This was the last straw for me to write this review.||To be clear, the boys and men (not in charge) were helpful with my situation but ultimately were subservient to this woman who was either prejudice against non Turkish guests or just me, or really has no idea of what Hospitality is.||||Note: Eskibag Butik Hotel is a more beautiful neighbor i mentioned for only slightly more lira. In all respects, they are exemplary of...
Read moreFirstly, I PAID for a room (2 nights) which supposed to have 3 beds even I was travelling solo. The second that the owner knew that I was alone, she gave me a single person room at the top level, which she claimed was an upgrade, which I assured you definitely not an upgrade. The room was super duper dirty, especially the bathroom. After spoken to her, she shared that the 3 beds room were not available, which I think it was a lie because I PAID for the room and she should have held the room for me. Subsequently, she changed my room to the lowest basement which was slightly better than the top. There was no compensation or partial refund from this situation, which I think quite strange to experience such dishonesty in Türkiye.
Secondly, the basement room was not spacious at all. It had a huge double bed that congested the whole room. The worst was the air conditioner was making sounds when it was on throughout the night. For 2 nights, electricity was suddenly unavailable in the middle of the night, which caused suffocation in the room with minimum ventilation.
Saat, the staff is worth mentioning. He is friendly and super duper helpful and he speaks English.
Overall, I was upset and disappointed towards the owner’s dishonesty. It is a very old building that you may not want to even consider to stay in especially for safety purposes as well. Just lack of maintenance such as changing rusted tap, removed...
Read moreI bought a Groupon for this hotel because I just wanted a cheap weekend getaway, and this was the cheapest one. I guess I got what I paid for. They said they only had basement rooms left (so I guess they did warn me), but I did not realize that that meant that I would be woken up at 7:30 each morning by a heavy-footed woman in heels in the lobby above who seemed determined to wake the basement dwellers up by her pacing, slamming doors, walking up and down the stairs, and dropping items on the floor. I was also occasionally awoken by the horses that pass by outside, but I did not mind that. I was about to go to bed early on Saturday night, but the live music above went from about 8:30-10:30. Luckily the music was not that bad, but definitely unavoidable in the basement. The room itself was unimpressive with paint chipping off the walls, only one tiny window, only one light that did not reach all areas of the room because of its strange shape, and mold on the bathroom ceiling. There is also a horrible smell of sewage when walking down to the basement. The positives of this place are the low price, good water pressure in the shower, and very convenient location to both the ferry and the center of town. Maybe rooms on upper floors...
