I bring a group of students to Gulu every January, which is typically the hottest month of the year. In the past, we have chosen GCCH for its friendly staff, safety, and reliability. The rooms are air conditioned, which helps a lot when temperatures can be over 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit. But in the last two years, something has changed for the worse. The rooms are stiflingly hot most of the time, making it impossible to sleep or be well rested for work the next day. The hotel installed some kind of modulator on its electrical system that prevents the a/c from working when the supply of electricity from the grid is low, and they stop all power outlets from working when the generator is on, meaning you cannot even charge a phone or run a fan. All the generator allows is light. The net effect of all of this together is that you almost never have the air conditioning for which you are paying. And there's no other way to cool down. The hotel only has a few fans (nowhere close to enough for every room), those don't work when the generator is on, and the windows don't have screens, so opening them allows mosquitos into the rooms, and the mosquito nets are not always properly attached to the ceiling. ||||Staff have been trained to say that they cannot do anything about this because the electric company Umeme controls the electricity supply. This is true, but in the past, when the generator was on or the grid was supplying any electricity, there was power to the rooms, including the a/c systems. Now, because of the modulators that the hotel installed, there is not. I don't know why they did this; my guess is as a cost-saving measure. Regardless, it is no longer worth the extra expense of staying at GHCC when there are many other hotels in town. You are better off saving money by staying somewhere with a fan in every room or screens on the windows or paying more for Bomahs' a/c. I am done with the hot, sleepless nights and will not be bringing another...
ย ย ย Read moreOur one-night stay at Gulu Churchill Courts Hotel was a big disappointment. Here's a detailed review of our experience:||||Location and Atmosphere||||The hotel is conveniently located in the city center of Gulu, which initially seemed advantageous. However, the area was extremely noisy throughout the night, making it difficult to relax and get a good night's sleep.||||Room Comfort and Amenities||||We stayed in a twin room that was supposed to be air-conditioned, but unfortunately, the air conditioning didn't work. This made the room uncomfortable, especially during the warm night.||||On the positive side, the room was very clean, and the bathroom had hot water in the shower, which was a relief.||||Connectivity and Service||||The WiFi signal was supposed to be available in the room, but it didn't work well at all. This lack of reliable internet connectivity was frustrating.||||Service at the hotel was non-existent. The staff was obviously not trained and wasted a lot of our time. We asked for breakfast to be ready at 6 am, and the hotel agreed, but nothing was ready on time. We ended up losing 30 minutes waiting for our breakfast.||||Dining Experience||||Dinner was OK, but nothing exceptional. Given the overall experience, the food did little to improve our impression of the hotel.||||Conclusion||||Overall, Gulu Churchill Courts Hotel was a big disappointment. Despite its central location and the cleanliness of the room, the noisy environment, malfunctioning air conditioning, poor WiFi, and inadequate service made our stay uncomfortable and frustrating. We wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, as it is not worth...
ย ย ย Read moreI had an opportunity to stay with them for some time and have no doubt in recommending them to be best according to the cost and facilities provided by the hotel. Not for from the city center offers bed and breakfast in budget price. The staff is cooperative and helpful. In the restaurant, they offer mix of cuisine(Asian/western). In case, one plans to stay for longer period, they do offer some discount. Have free wi-fi and local transport could be arranged upon request but to be paid. Some of the safari game parks are at day trip so don't miss it when you are around. The management have to pay attention to wear and tear as its over due. They should have some a;alternate arrangements for hot water as the solar system are not helpful in rainy season. The breakfast should have varieties on...
