The staff at this lodge have no concept of punctuality and we were very frustrated.
We ordered our dinner at around 2pm, saying that it must be ready by 6pm in time for our game drive. The dinner arrived at 6:30pm and we had to scramble to get to the entrance.
We ordered breakfast the night before, and told them to be ready by 6:30 am so that we can start our safari walk at 7am after sunrise. When we arrived for breakfast, we waited 15 minutes for our coffee to be served. Then the food itself was served closer to 7am. As a result, we had to change our guide at the park since we were very late. What is the point of ordering the night before if they cannot get anything on time?
Worse, when we wanted to check put at 7:15am, no one was there. Our guide went back while we were on the safari walking tour to settle the bill. No one was there. So we went back again at 10:30 am because the person who will take the payment finally arrived.
We had a very frustrating stay. We cannot understand why they are so insensitive to agreed times. It shows a lot of disrespect to the guests. We woke up on time to be there at the agreed time. There was a family who requested for bananas for breakfast, and even that came late (face palm)..
This ledge charges Ushs3,000 for hot water and Ushs7,000-10,000 for coffee or tea. Most of the other hotels we stayed at just gave this for free.
The Hyena Hill lodge has large sized rooms but they do not have outlets in the rooms. While it is close to Mburo National Park, we found that you can easily be late because nothing is...
Read moreHyena Hill Lodge marked the final stop on our 15-day camping trip through Uganda, and it was a wonderful way to end our adventure. The lodge offers both accommodations in lodges and a relatively new campsite for tents, including rooftop tents like ours. The facilities were excellent, with clean toilets and hot showers, though we opted for the refreshing cold shower in nature, which we preferred.
The lodge also offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. While we found the prices for lunch and dinner to be on the higher end for Ugandan standards, it was the last two nights of our trip, and we decided to treat ourselves. Dinner was a delightful 3-course meal, and breakfast was plentiful and delicious, with both buffet and à la carte options. Coffee, tea, and water were available throughout the day, which was a lovely touch.
What made our stay even more memorable was the stunning scenic view of the national park and Lake Mburo. The views from the campsite were breathtaking, making it a perfect spot to unwind and take in the natural beauty. We stayed at the campsite on New Year's Eve, and it turned out to be a truly special experience. The hosts lit a campfire in the evening, and we spent time listening to stories from locals, sharing our own travel experiences, and playing games. We celebrated the New Year together with fellow travelers and locals, making it an unforgettable way to ring in the new year.
Overall, our stay at Hyena Hill Lodge was a fantastic way to wrap up our trip. Highly recommended for anyone...
Read moreI booked this place for my daughter to experience Mburo Lake NP on her first trip to Africa after graduation. The setting and lodges are nice.|At time of booking (through email exchange with the lodge) I specified a room for the guide and driver. Unfortunately on arrival no room was a a available for them. The staff then stated that because the booking was made online, they had no record of guide/driver room being requested. The tone of this exchange was not very friendly, leaving my daughter to feel it was her fault.|Had they checked their files they would have found the request had been made. |This led to added hassle and expense to accommodate the driver and guide off site.|Upon check out there also seemed to be no record of the room being paid for, even though this had been done by back transfer a month prior to arrival. Proof of payments had to be produced. |All in all, customer service and level of professionalism leaves room for improvement at Hyena Hill.|It’s sad, because the setting is good and the rooms are...
