Murchison Backpackers — Hotel in Masindi

The negatives: we had our laundry done, of which 3 tshirts came back with black stains (which weren´t there before), 1 pair of socks changed from greenish grey to orange and multiple items had damaged fabric or were stretched so they dont fit anymore from washing them very roughly (1 top, 1 bra, 3 pairs of underpants). After telling the staff, they would only agree to refund 2 of the total 10 dollars. The value of the ruined clothes exceeds 100 dollars...

*the walls of the rooms are made of wooden planks, and it´s easy to look into neighbouring rooms.

*our room was less than 5m from the road, with a lot of LOUD traffic passing by at night and in the morning. This can´t be resolved, but it was a bit unpleasant.

*the pool is 5 dollars, but the poolwater is milky/cloudy. This indicates that the pool water is improperly maintained (for example too much chlorine, which can cause skin irritation). I decided not to swim, because it seemed unsafe.

The positive

*the toilets and showers were clean and there was hot water and soap. The towels were soft.

*breakfast was good and the kitchen staff was very friendly.

*the room was pretty and clean. The bedding was clean and comfortable.

We would not recommend having your laundry done here and sleep elsewhere if you´re a light sleeper or are uncomfortable with other people possibly watching you through the cracks...

I went up to visit Murchison falls last weekend with some friends, and we stayed with May, the lovely host and founder of Murchison Backpackers. May and all the employees were very friendly and welcoming. Our trip was last-minute, and we were so grateful for May's help ensuring everything was set up for a smooth trip to the Falls. She welcomed us back in the evening when one of us got sick and needed to rest before the journey home, and helped us organize a private ride back to Kampala. The house is beautiful and very clean, with comfortable beds, a spacious open-concept living and dining room (with a cable TV which you can reminisce and watch cartoons in the morning), and a full chef's kitchen, all within a very secure compound. The property was gorgeous, and provided the perfect vacation get-away feeling we saught after. Thanks for having us May! I'll definitely be coming back soon to visit again; we had a great time staying at Murchison...

I've been to Murchison Backpackers a couple of times now and I'm just amazed by this place! When you pass through the gate you see a huge colonial house on a huge compound. The wole place is so green and beautiful, I love it! The rooms of both the colonial house and the other building are very spacious and clean. The beds are comfortable and they did a great job with decorating! I really like the African fabrics and handcrafts throughout the wole place :)

The owner of this beautiful spot is May and she's such a lovely host! She really makes sure you have everything you need and you feel at home. The rest of the staff is very kind as well and I loved the snacks they made for us!

Did I already mention the view from the top floor of the big house? It's AMAZING! I can't believe you get all of this for such a low price. I'm a big fan and I would recommend this...
