I was at Fort Murchison from 23-25 October 2020. The staff are rude right from the time we checked in. They want to win arguments but don't care listening to clients. When I reached the room, the butler took trouble explaining to me a water closet as if I'd never seen, let alone use one. Employing professionals would give the place a better look.
The rooms do not even have water provided on courtesy for clients. Never mind that a bottle of water costs only 1000 Uganda shillings on the open market. The small glass of juice that was provided on arrival had more water than juice.
The cleanliness of the staff is wanting. If one doesn't have a body odour, then they've not changed their uniform in a number of days and they smell sweat. Every time one of the staff got close to me, I felt like puking.
The food is bad and tasteless. There are no written down menu. They make up things as they go along. The fish 🐟 fillet they had on menu the day I arrived wasn't fresh. I took trouble to ask if the fish was fresh and was told it was, only to be served fish that had over stayed in the freezer. When I pointed out, the waitress had the audacity to tell me that no one said it was fresh. Never mind that the lodge is near Pakwach where they could easily get fresh fish. When I asked for Dawa tea (lemon and ginger), they brought it with a tea bag of black tea. When I asked them to take it back and give me what I asked for, there were lemon seeds in the tea pot. They chef could not even use a strainer to ensure that there are no seeds in the tea.
There's no Internet despite telling us that one can access from the restaurant, it couldn't connect.
The power is switched off at 2230h and no provision for emergency lighting is in place. Despite being told that they have solar as a backup for the generator, it doesn't work. Neither are clients provided torches in the rooms. One has to grope the way to the toilet in the night.
Despite having paid all my bills for accommodation in advance and paying for the dinner I had on the first day, the staff accosted me as I was leaving that I still have a bill to pay.
On a positive note, they have hot showers. The bedding was clean. As for the towels they had already changed colour. Despite the butler telling me they were white, they looked more brown than white. I couldn't use them. They need to invest in a washing machine.
I would never recommend anyone to stay in this place. The 30 dollars per night is overrated...
Read moreWe loved our stay at fort murchison lodge. We had a long and hot journey and on our arrival the staff brought us cold towels and a cold fruit juice, we were amazed by this warm welcome. ||I also have coeliac disease (allergy to gluten) and on arrival one of the first questions asked was whether any of the guests had allergies. After explaining my allergy I was reassured that the meals could be adapted and that they would prepare the food separately to prevent cross contamination. For the staff to mention allergies and cross contamination without me having to raise this was really impressive as it is rare in Uganda. ||The food was delicious, the chef really knows his flavours, and I did not feel I was missing out by being gluten free. The staff were also really friendly and we felt well looked after. You can have breakfast from 5:30am which is useful for early morning game drives. Also they can prepare packed lunches for you which cost around 30,000 shillings.||This is an ideal lodge for a safari/game drive and could not recommend it more. Beautiful grounds and lovely pool. ||Be warned that the road to the lodge is very bumpy and so if you get car sickness you need to be...
Read moreThe lodge looks a lot better than the pictures on their website. Our room was very comfortable, nice beds, mosquito nets and the shower was decent. The fan in the room was great! The lodge is run on solar power so there is no fridge, kettle or hair dryer in the rooms, but that didn’t bother us. You get a bottle of water in the room, but the restaurant also has a water tank where you can fill up your own bottle no charge. Amazing, I wish each lodge had this.
The staff was very friendly. A special shout out to the chef who cooked up the most delicious vegan meals for us! They will accommodate you, just inform the staff.
The location is the only downside, it’s about 30-40 mins drive from the national park gate. It’s mostly on a dirt road, but keep a look out for elephants. On our way there, we had to stop for a few minutes because an elephant decided the road is the best place to chill 😁 Quite an experience and it was good to see that no cars hooted or anything. We were patiently waiting for the bull to move,...
