The Birdsnest Resort is a gorgeous hotel situated on Lake Bunyonyi. Arrivals are greeted with colorful flowers and an open lobby that showcases gorgeous lake views. It feels luxurious. The room had a balcony so we enjoyed those lake views whenever we wanted.||The food was tasty and the menu had familiar and local options. I ate a tilapia dish that was one of my top three meals during the trip. The food is made with fresh ingredients and the portion sizes are huge. I enjoyed eating surrounded by all the colorful birds this area calls home. I took my binoculars to every meal to watch the birds flutter about.||Two amenities to try: the sauna was nice and unexpected. And the overwater swing is a lot of fun. Ask for help to get on and off; it’s worth a swing!||From the hotel, we took a boat ride around the lake and saw the national bird - the Crested Crane - that nests on one of the many islands in Lake Bunyonyi. We also visited the nearby school and spoke with the principal. The island housing the school has a lot of history and our tour guide told its amazing story. We also learned about the other islands and nearby activities. There is much to do in the area and the resort can arrange these experiences. ||We took a walk on the road leading back into the village and saw schoolhouses and children learning, a man herding cattle, and we met many kind people. At the top of the road, we enjoyed a different vantage point and spent some time soaking in the adventure.||There is an artist studio and works of art throughout the property. It was a beautiful experience that...
Read moreThis hotel experience could not be more perfect. The setting is outstanding with serene views of the lake Bunyoni. Beautiful garden terraces are available for relaxing in while looking out on the lake. It's a birdwatchers and nature lovers paradise. There are colonies of herons and cormorants nesting within the garden. Kayaks are available for free and the freshwater pool is perfect. Lake Bunyoni is safe to swim in too. I reccomend getting a guided tour of the lake in a dug out canoe. Ask for the very knowledgeable local guide Anthony to bring you around. The staff are really professional and helpful especially Happy and Moses and the food is very varied and very satisfying. At night the stars are outstanding if the sky is clear. At 2000m it can get cold at night but the hotel lights a wonderful fire. There are also excellent resident artists in the craft shop of the hotel who can create amazing pictures of the local birds and wildlife. Across the lake is an adventure ziplining center which apparently is also very good. Getting there from Kigali is a nice quiet drive (2.5 to 3 hours)past amazing scenery and about 30 minutes to go through the border process then another 25 minutes to the hotel. Do it you will...
Read moreWe travelled all over Uganda, but Birdnest Resort was by far our favorite stay, only complaint was that we didn't stay here longer!!||We arrived via boat, which is the perfect entrance as you can see truly how special this place is front the water. We headed up to reception and were greeted with welcome juices and the dinner menu so our large group (14 of us) could put in our orders. The menu was huge and everything sounded delicious!! ||We were then shown to our rooms (#7 for me) and they were huge! My balcony was perfect for the views and the extra large shower and hot water were a welcome site!||Dinner was absolutely amazing, do not miss the crayfish dishes because you won't see them anywhere else in Uganda. ||We had a relaxing morning with breakfast and a big lunch before heading onwards on our tour, but had a great morning exploring the property, the swing, bird watching, and wishing we used the sauna the night before!||The staff were all welcoming and took great care our our...
