Golden Ark Hotel — Hotel in Soroti

This hotel has all the basics covered. It has a comfortable bed with mosquito net, clean rooms, and hot water for showers. If my experiences here had been limited to those things I would have given it a solid four stars for its location and price range (Ush 45,000 for a single room when I was here). The staff were very friendly.||||Unfortunately, I had two bad experiences. First, I ate lunch here with the only "vegetarian" options being beans (probably had beef flavoring) and rice. Very soon after I ate I got sick. It could have been from something consumed earlier, and these things happen so this doesn't seem like a fatal flaw. Second, as I walked down the hallway in the middle of the day, I shared the space with a very large rat. This animal was completely shameless and scampered down the steps in front of me without a care in the world. Ick. ||||Sickness/rat left me feeling less positive...

This hotel isn't a marriot, but it succeeds where many other hotels fail. Compared to almost all the hotels I've stayed at in Uganda (many), this one has a good package. The rooms are comfortable with decent beds and hole-free mosquito nets. They have fans. The double room I stayed in (80k UGX in January '14) even had a mini-fridge that I could stock with water. The staff is very friendly and welcoming- happy to show you several rooms and let you choose the one you like best. The restaurant is average, but there are other options near by if you want variety. My wife and I stayed in the Golden Ark Hotel in Soroti in November, 2011. The room was clean and comfortable. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant which was good value and well prepared. ||I later had my 18 year old daughter stay there in January, 2012 as she was on her way to visit family about an hours journey beyond Soroti the following day.
