Meliá Desert Palm member of Meliá Collection — Hotel in Dubai

I think the hotel management will be surprised with my 4/5 rating!

I wanted to love this hotel but was left with incredibly mixed feelings.

It is in a beautiful location on the outskirts of Dubai set on polo fields. A real oasis and retreat! The rooms are spacious and well decorated, albeit looking tired in places and in need of a refurbishment soon enough. The prices are reasonable all things considered.

However, the service I received at the start of my stay was memorably and exceptionally poor. Without fail requests were ignored (to fix the tv speakers, twice for toiletries at the bath, for laundry, for housekeeping earlier when they would only make it in the evening a few minutes before turndown, for a bill with a drink at the pool so I wouldn’t have to wait for service to come again). I therefore didn’t even ask for coffee pods when they weren’t replenished or for someone to fix the dripping tap. At these points I always reminded and mentioned where I had previously asked but staff were entirely unapologetic and noted/reported nothing for management. Additionally the flies at the pool were bothersome. I understand it may be difficult given the proximity to the stables, but I t is not clear if anything is being done about this (diffusing citronella for example). Drinks service at the pool was also very bad. Nobody would come for hours and other customers were visible annoyed about this also (hence why I would ask for the bill with my drink). finally, housekeeping put damp sheets on my bed one day and soaking wet pillow cases on another day. This is not even a comprehensive list of the issues. In short, they utterly failed at the absolute basics.

My overall positive rating is for two reasons:

1. When I spoke to the manager things visibly changed! Housekeeping finally came at least a little earlier, the pool finally got a regular drinks service, requests for the bill with my drink were not ignored. The food and beverage manager also came to speak to me about it and they were professional and kind. I would recommend the management keep on top of proactive observation, but I was encouraged at the transformation.
2. The food in Rare was excellent. Terrific quality but mostly it was simply perfect execution and completely consistently so!

Lastly, I should mention for MeliáRewards Platinum members that there was no real recognition of that.

So elements make this simultaneously both one of the worst and one of the best hotel stays for me. I have given 4/5 as I was encouraged by improvements at the end of my stay, but I am not sure I would risk...

An Extraordinary Anniversary Celebration at RARE Wood Fire Grill

As we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary at the renowned RARE Wood Fire Grill Restaurant at Meliá Desert Palm Dubai, we were utterly blown away by the exceptional service and exquisite culinary experience.

From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism by Dennis, our dedicated server. His knowledge of the menu and wine list was impeccable, and he effortlessly guided us through our choices.

To our delight, Chef Diego and Chef Mahesh presented their culinary masterpieces. The dishes they created were not simply meals but works of art, showcasing their unparalleled skills and passion for food.

The starters of Red Velvet Crispy Prawn and Seabass Cheviche were a symphony of flavors and textures. The Seabass was tender and perfectly marinated, while the Prawns were mouthful, well seasoned, and the batter was perfectly fried.

For our main course, we opted for the succulent Lobster Tagliatelle and the Risotto with Lamb Shank. The Risotto and Pasta was cooked to perfection, melting in our mouths with every bite. The lamb was equally exquisite, its tender meat falling effortlessly from the bone while the perfectly cocked Lobster meat was easily coming out of its shell. They offered thoughtful recommendations when it came to ordering drinks and wines to pair with our food, making us feel like valued guests.

Throughout the evening, Dennis and Beljo remained attentive and unobtrusive, ensuring our every need was met. Beljo took an extra effort to click many pictures until every picture came right making sure the memories will last a life long.

As we savored our dessert of Dulce De Leche, Dennis and Beljo did not forget to surprise us with a beautiful slice of Cheese Cake to celebrate our Anniversary. we couldn't help but marvel at the exceptional dining experience we had enjoyed. From the impeccable service to the unforgettable food, RARE Wood Fire Grill truly exceeded our expectations.
