I have booked a family stay in the Wildings back in January 21 as we were looking for a place where we could enjoy a family weekend in the countryside. We have booked this place mainly because it was a small run family business with only 6 pods as we are a large family (17 people in total). As lockdown hit, we had to move our dates to June. Kim contacted us via email to let us know that new tents had been added to the campsite but, because we booked this place exclusively (we had booked all the pods in the campsite), she would honour that and (quote from email) “not hire them out to anyone else whilst you are staying unless you would be ok with that”. I was very disappointed to see that the campsite was completely full when we arrived, with around 6 other tents occupied. I’ve spoken to Kim personally to let her know my disappointment and she only replied that “she didn’t hear from me” when in fact we had spoken on the phone the day she sent me the email and several other times via email, and at no time I said we would be ok with the other tents being hired. We travelled with 4 dogs, including a 4 month old puppy who ended up scratching a very young kid who was playing with the puppy completely unsupervised in the area of the pods where we were staying. In summary, the weekend ended up being very stressful for me, and completely different from what I was expecting. I have also sent an email once we returned from the campsite to let them know about my experience / to provide some feedback, and the Wildings have never replied to me.
PROS: Great location Everything is new and beautifully built The kitchen area has two fridges and is very helpful to cook a meal if you don’t want to go out The extras are great, we particularly enjoyed the cooking bundle and fire pit The newly added tents look beautiful and comfortable (although we didn’t stay in them) The pods are spacious and very comfortable Bathrooms are large, clean and functional Children have really enjoyed the playing area There is a little shop in the reception with great local food (we loved the fudge!)
CONS: Showers didn’t drain properly (although this was resolved once we spoke to Kim) The area of the camping is small compared to other campsites. There is no space for the dogs to run/exercise Management attention towards client satisfaction Number of bathrooms / showers. There were only 2 toilets and 2 showers with toilets for 6 pods (fitting 5 people each) and 6 tents
I would (maybe) recommend this place if you travel in a small group, but would not come back with a large group and/or dogs. I’m also very disappointed with their customer service, as they seem to publicise their good reviews all the time, and simply ignore...
Read moreWe have just returned from a 4 night stay at The Wildings, traveling as a party of 8 (6 x adults, 1 x 16 year old and 1 x 12 year old). |We had booked 2 tent pitches and 1 pod (for our parents), however, somehow the booking had been mixed up and we ended up with 1 pitch and 1 pod. We managed to squeeze both our tents onto the 1 pitch and made things work. The young lady (Chrissy) who checked us in was very apologetic and also helpful in allowing us to 'extend' our pitch into the communal area slightly.|The campsite itself was nice enough with a well stocked shop and decent sized pitches, the site operates a no cars policy which is okay, but means you have to barrow your equipment up a hill to the pitches (this is widely advertised, so should not come as a surprise, just be aware) using the provided wheel barrows. Get there early enough or midweek and there shouldn't be a problem, hit a busy patch and you'll find yourself barrow-less and carrying your kit as there are only 4 of them.|The pod was well positioned, and nice enough but quite bare, there are no shelves, kettle, fridge or decorative touches, it is very much a pod with a bed and an electric wall mounted heater.|The facilities were in the 'good but not great' category whilst they were working, however, the entire row of toilets / showers meant for the tent pitches (27 of them) were blocked on our second day and out of use meaning everyone on the campsite (I would guess at about 150 people) were forced to use the facilities at the top of the campsite near the pods which consisted of 2 toilets and 2 shower/toilets (not ideal). It meant there was always a queue and made it very difficult to keep them clean or stocked with toilet paper.|We were apologised to for the inconvenience but when we left after the fourth night they were still out of use.|They have a 'no noise' after 22:00hrs policy but this is not policed and we found that it didn't really quieten down until around midnight, and even then a few people continued to talk into the early hours. The numerous play areas around the site were great if you had young children but did mean things were also quite noisy from around 06:00hrs, not a complaint as it was great to see kids outside playing and enjoying themselves, again, just something to e aware of.|All the staff we came across were friendly and helpful and I'm sure the facilities issue was a one-off and persisted through unlucky timing rather than a lack of effort but did nonetheless detract from our stay.|Finally, the location is superb, just a short trip from Bourton-On-The-Water which is an idyllic village with plenty of shops, eateries, pubs and river running through the...
