My first stay at this particular Premier Inn, sadly I was far from impressed. This was a special getaway night for myself and my partner, we got there close to 6PM and waited a few minutes for someone on reception, eventually 2 young Ladies appeared giggling out of a back office area, it's not secret there is CCTV covering the area, amd being in a unique situation of working in and around hotel grounds there is a high degree of probability te same back office will have a screen showing the very same CCTV. The young lady was pretty blasé and went through the basic motions. This was the only time I saw any member of staff. Location is about 15 minutes on foot from the town centre. There is a bus stop just outside the door and a small car park onsite. When I got to the room, apart from it being well presented and clean, the first thing that hit was how cold it was. When we turned the AC system on, it is centrally locked to a maximum 21°C (Energy efficiency...) this never warmed the room up during the stay. Ironically, there is an A4 sheet of laminated paper stating that if your room is too warm, ask reception. I phoned up the Tuesday and requested a couple of gifts be left in the room for our arrival. I was assured by whomever I spoke to this was a common thing and was happy to accommodate this request. I asked how I paid for it and was told to settle it when I was on site. Nothing was left in the room. Save 2 sachets of coffee, 2 teabags, 4 pots of milk, and 6 sugars. Washing my hands and face, I was met with a towel that looked like I'd cleaned a bike sprocket and chain with. 2 holes in it. Not exactly Premier. Lastly, the bed, it was extremely uncomfortable, I awoke several times (7 according to the sleep tracker) in some discomfort and still cold. When we did wake up, we both felt tired and irritable, we left and left the card keys in the box on reception. Safe to say I don't think I'll be booking here again.

I have had a lengthy discussion with the Duty Manager and I have been assured that these issues will be addressed. The 1st time ever I'm going to give a Premier Inn a 2 Star Review, 70% organisational/ 30% local level. The important issue is one of the party is registered blind (familiar with the layout of Premier Inns), sharing a room with their child and their Guide Dog and I am 70. 1. Organisational, a new IT booking system which crashed for 3 of us after approving the transaction in our apps. Also crashed 3 times for the agent at HQ Luton, but he found away around and after an hour and a bit we were booked in. 2. Resulted in us losing the ground floor accessible room. 3. The Agent contacted the Accessibility Tesm to ensure everything in place re brining a Service Dog and we were in adjoining rooms. 4. Arrival, they were on floor 1 and myself floor 2 with a long walk. 5. Lift out of order, so on the occasions when I walked my friend to her room, I had a double walk and I'm 70. Told that was it re rooms, though appeared not to be the case. 6. Evening meal, small resturant, if your vegetarian, carbs, I would eat out next time. Not had breakfast yet. 7. Braille Menu, excited to be able to read the menu to us for the 1st time ever, don't care if you've got your own menus in front of you, your going to listen, unfortunately the Braille Menu was out of date 🙄 8. Staff did not know how to place the plates and explain placement for someone blind. 9. After the evening meal, whilst it was quiet, we decided to 'walk breakfast", ie "how will it be laid out in the morning?" "As you can see", "no its not laid out". 10. Not asked about registering car, I went back to the car, and thankfully recalled need to register car. 11. Breakfast, love it. Rooms, nice and spotlessly clean. Staff friendly, though not accessibility aware. Views, mainly service bins.

It's a Premier Inn and ticked all the boxes. Unpretentious, comfortable room with air conditioning and a reasonable view of the peaks. Plenty of free car parking with accessible spaces right outside the door. Need to register your vehicle registration on arrival to avoid car park charge but this was quick and easy using a remote tablet at reception. There's a lift to the upper floors which is handy if you have heavy bags. Staff were friendly throughout despite clearly being rushed off their feet. Restaurant was good but pricey at dinner for fairly basic food. Breakfast good value but they'd run out of eggs and staff were blaming children on a school trip for eating too much! The toasters are so slow...bread in, waited a couple of minutes, went off made a coffee, came back, waited a couple more minutes and it was only barely toasted. Not a bad location but the town was suffering an epidemic of roadworks so traffic lights everywhere. Took about 30 minutes to drive through town to the hotel. There's temporary 3 way traffic lights right outside the hotel too which meant a 5 minute wait just to get out of the car park. Flood defence works apparently. Overall a positive experience.

I cannot praise my stay at Premier Inn Matlock highly enough. The staff were all very kind and considerate, maintaining their professionalism at all times. I was a solo female guest and they made me feel welcome and safe. The takeaway restaurant menu was a nice touch and food was brought straight to my room in a timely manner. The room was spotlessly clean with all necessary amenities available to me, including a large TV. Nice view from the bedroom window, too.

The only small criticism I would make - in the interests of leaving an honest review - is that one of the breakfast team seemed to always want to put me on 'table one' for my breakfast which was the table in the very corner of the restaurant. I had already asked once before this not to sit in the very corner of the restaurant and that I would prefer a window seat, however the next morning when I came down to breakfast I was again offered 'table one', and the staff member who had made the booking the evening before for me was the same lady who had initially offered me 'table one' and who I had already asked if I could sit in the window on a previous visit. It seemed to be assumed that as a solo diner I would only want to sit in a corner, unseen by other guests/passers-by, however this was not the case and I had already requested to have a window seat prior to being assigned the corner table on a second visit. I should add to this that at least one of the window seat options was the same size table and chairs as 'table one' and also that the restaurant was not usually very busy when I came to breakfast, so my request for a window seat was not unreasonable or difficult to accommodate.

This does not warrant a marking-down of rating and I was able to obtain a window seat eventually on both occasions and so my rating remains at 5 stars and I thank Premier Inn Matlock earnestly for what was an...
