We have been here a few times eating and drinking whilst staying in lodges nearby. Always fantastic, food was amazing and the staff were too. However very different experience last Friday when I called to try to make a reservation for next year. We had always promised to stay here at some point so thought would give them a try.

First call a man answered and when I asked to check availability for July next year he asked could I hold - I held for a while - then the phone went dead.

Second call - the phone was answered and immediately put down. Thinking there must be an issue with the phones I called a third time.

Third call - Same man answered and when I said I think we got cut off no apology he just said what dates is it for. I said I wanted to check availability for July 8th and 9th next year he abruptly said that's the 40's weekend we haven't released dates yet. So I asked when they may be releasing dates.

He said 'We have a list of regulars who get first choice' then silence So I just said 'OK then' and hung up.

My thoughts on this: If you do not want people to call for availability then perhaps change your advertisement which clearly tells you to call to check for availability maybe?

Also it would be good customer service to perhaps apologise to people that you are unable to accommodate their requests? then possibly they may try you again another time?

And maybe it would be good practice to apologise to someone who had tried three times to contact you due to the amount of times that you had lost their calls - unless, as I imagine you simply hung up on them?

I hope your repeat clientele keep you going through the coming months, years as by the standard of customer service I experienced from you - you will not be getting future 'repeat customers' So very...

We arrived and asked if they had space for 2 diners. The waitress double checked with presumably a line manager and we we told yes, lead to a table and had drinks served to us within the first 5 minutes. At this point we were asked if we were ready to order or needed more time, but we requested more time after about 15 minutes we requested to place an order and the young waiter went to get his iPad and returned saying the kitchen was too busy and no further orders could be taken. A waitress took the order of the table behind us who arrived after us and we questioned why if they had been able to place an order why couldn’t we? We were told that they had booked that they took priority over us. When enquiring how long it would be before we could place an order we were answered “how long is a piece of string” and give a lecture on how we couldn’t expect to walk in to a restaurant and be served immediately. Double standards given that they allowed us to be seated without booking and we’d had the offer for our order to be taken, then told we couldn’t order. We received argumentative abuse from 3 staff members simultaneously suggesting that we should leave, and when stating that we intended to leave a negative review we’re told “ ohh I’m shaking in my boots”. This was in full earshot of a partly filled restaurant. How you think this is a positive way to deal with any customer is beyond belief, and more a display of unprofessionalism. Unfortunately reading through the other negative comments you have received, I am not the only one to receive this level of aggression. There seems to be a trend of dismissal of responsibility for any of your fault with a aggressive response of righteousness which further cements the validity of...

Visited this restaurant for Sunday lunch to celebrate three of the group of twelve's birthdays. On a positive note the puddings and veg were fine. However: The lamb was tough The table was sticky-our napkins stuck to it. The £80 deposit paid was not initially deducted from the final bill. You need to check for this.

The worst aspect was: We had not been warned that the table was for only two hours. Told we could take dessert as a takeaway (very strange-never had this before. Are we to eat it in the car?) but just managed to squeeze in. No time for coffee. Once bill presented waitress returned very promptly to seek payment. Had not had time to work it out and felt harassed. Obviously had to then amend due to error with deposit. Felt very rushed and was a really unpleasant end to the meal. Asked if there was another area we could have coffee but no. Luckily found a very nice place in Woodhall to have coffee. We don't see each other very often and had lots to catch up with! Would recommend an area where people could have drinks while they ordered and coffee afterwards. This would help to free up the tables and avoid the feeling of being rushed and thrown out in order to make way for the next group. Understand times are hard but this felt grasping and greedy. Will not be returning.

In response to owner. As her late majesty said,...

What an absolutely fabulous experience today at Village limits at lunchtime . I had booked a table by phone and mentioned it was my elderly mothers birthday - asking for a table by window . When we arrived beautiful helium balloons , a fabulous welcome and delicious food with so much choice . Then we were totally surprised by the pictured beautiful home baked cake - candies and sang happy birthday when they brought it out . What a lovely place to eat - they went over and above our expectations - the place is decorated tastefully and it is well worth a visit - - we will certainly be dining again - the steaks look delicious !! A lovely place to stay too with lovely rooms - try it - thank you to everyone there - very much appreciated.

I stayed here overnight with my girlfriend recently, and we were surprised to find we had been upgraded to the suite room! This is quite possibly the best place I have stayed, and I hope to do so again. I can't think of a single way they could improve, and I strongly recommend anyone visiting the area stay here! Not only was the suite fantastic, but the food was absolutely delicious too! I had a pear and ginger creme brulee, and my vegan girlfriend was pleasantly surprised to find there were many more options available to her than she expected! The friendly owners clearly go beyond when catering to their guests, and should be proud of the service they provide!

Great food, super hosts. I’ve always rated the food here - always high quality. This is first time I stayed at the hotel. Rooms are cozy, there’s a comfortable bed and all spotlessly clean. Nice bathroom with boutique toiletries. This was an emergency stop after after a puncture left me stranded. Hosts were great - they had a hot meal waiting for me on arrival. Tasty breakfast and all delivered with reassuring COVID-compliant considerations.
