We had a 2 night stay here. This review a tale of 2 halves. Good and Bad We arrived early as had rang to check we could leave our bags. We were surprised no flat access to Reception but steps. Lots of bags to heave up. Two Ladies at desk chatting & to another staff member. We had to ask if it was reception as not noticed or a sign above two desks.
We left after leaving bags & had a few hours in Shrewsbury. Arrived back 5pm to our rooms. Superior Twin in main house on first floor, No lift. We couldnt manage luggage, I had a bad back. We had to go back to ask for help. Young lady arrived gave most of the bags back to my friend to carry & carried suitcase upstairs! seemed little point Our room disappointing, not like the photo at all. No sofa, a table & 1 chair. Very hot indeed. We felt a standard twin been given to us instead. No coffee maker. We called reception & they advised nothing else. Would bring Coffee maker up.
We went to Reception in person, we spoke to a lovely man who apologised & advised coffee machine on route. He did look and advise Next night would move us to the Annexe. We said yes to this Its a pity the female receptionist gave the impression it was an effort to come to our room. Yes, Robes & slippers given but just tossed on bed Advised oh you had Coffee pots already. I advised yes but no. Coffee Maker ! We suggested Coffee Maker on big Dresser but staff member proceeded try and plug in leaving wire stretched on small tabld We suggested moving table which we helped with.
A very hot night in room. Breakfast next morning , nice dining room. Good selection thou a shame mini pastries ran out quickly & not added too. We planned a few hours in Pool, Spa as pouring with Rain.
Guy in Spa reception again didnt acknowledge us we asked if in right place collect Pool Towel. Pool Warm, Sauna, Ice Room all working. Jacuzzi empty, devoid of water. Asked Reception Giy and he seemed surprised & advised should be 2 staff & just him. Jacuzzi remained empty and still not able to use following morming.
We waited to find out when new room be ready. We had knock on door asking if we had a late check out! No we had another night to stay & awaiting new room. At 12-20 we were advised new room ready in 20 mins. We again packed & struggled downstairs with luggage. New room yes huge improvement and we left bags and went out for the day. Breakfast Monday very busy at 9am, Juggle for space by Coffee /Tea. Really think Teapot or Coffee Pot ordered to Table much better and in keeping with 4* Hotel. Again, Mini pastries ran out didnt seem to top up at 9-30. I liked the Cheese/Ham and Fresh Bread and Melon slices. Hot selection, Bacon , Sausages fine Eggs quite greasy & ran out fast, beans as always lukewarm . Surprised no Hash Browns.
Pros A good location, on outside looks lovely. Rooms in Annexe are lovely. Lovely Pool,,Sauna, Steam Room
Cons Our Superior Twin Room being a let down & not as described Steps to Reception, no accessible slope or sign to one. No lift in main Building lots of stairs No acknowledgment when first arrived. Customer service really felt poor with our complaint re room . It felt a trial to get it sorted & felt as if we were a nuisance.. Guests arriving early should be verbally welcomed not left. Breakfast items need to be replenished .
Our friends room brilliant and we did advise we would stay here again but only in the Annexe not the main building. We had planned this weekend for months and had really looked forward to this especially after my back...
Read moreI am a solo disabled traveller and while other aspects of the hotel are as described by many guests the facilities are not as positive for those of us with mobility issues.
I was part of a team staying two nights with our booking made centrally.
It is not until you actually stay at the Albrighton that you are aware of the issues for mobility challenged guests.
I emailed the hotel in advance as I read on the hotel site that access to the reception was up steps. I asked whether there was an alternative ramped access available.
I received no reply.
I arrived at 3pm on the day and parked in the main car park. There were no signs directing anyone to any disabled parking.
The main car park is a 2-3 minute walk to reception up a slope.
I sat in the car park and telephoned reception to ask for directions.
I made three phone calls before I was answered.
The receptionist Tom was excellent and came to my car and supported me by direction me to park in the spa car park. There were only two disabled bays and both were taken.
Tom helped by carrying my bags as I rode my mobility scooter into the building.
Tom held the doors open for me, but I am not sure how I would have managed entering the hotel without him.
Tom very kindly assisted me to a “chair lift” to the reception level. The lift was only just sufficient to take my mobility scooter and there were safety issues with reversing as there was a danger of reversing off the platform into the lower level. The turning circle of my scooter made it very awkward to leave the platform onto the reception floor.
At reception Tom was profusely apologetic that a problem with housekeeping had arisen and he worked at resolving the issue.
The route to my room, booked by my representatives as an accessible room was on the ground floor of an outside annexe.
I entered my room, with Tom’s excellent personal assistance, at 4pm. One hour after arriving at the hotel.
To get to my room we had to reverse our previous journey, down the platform to the lower level and leave the hotel through the bar and travel to the opposite side of the hotel to the spa to another annexe. A five minute journey.
My room was on one side of the hotel and my car parked as far away as it could possibly be from my room.
The room was a wonderfully large room with walk in shower.
Perfect.
As a solo traveller I am quite used to hotel room doors being totally inadequate as they are not automatically opening or closing but require me to leave my mobility scooter and somehow hold the door open while trying to manoeuvre the scooter through.
In other hotels I have been responsible for removing all the paint from the bottom of the door while manoeuvring entry and exit from the room while on my scooter.
These hotels have also advertised themselves as having “accessible” rooms.
The service here has been impeccable and truly supportive.
The hotel is not modern, has a great deal of charm with wonderful staff but it is not suitable for mobility challenged guests on...
Read moreI would have given one star but since the Front Office Manager Gemma has sort out me and my friends issues in the end, I think it's fair to give an extra star. Though my experience is poor but at least they've took accountability with issues. Couple of feedbacks that I hope the hotel management will take it seriously and make improvements on.
Food service is Extremely slow. My friends and I arrived at 7pm for food, we had 2 course meal and each course took an hour to arrive. My friend ordered Well Done Steak and yet the restaurant gave her Medium Rare Steak. We finish our dinner at 10pm 😅
When I checked in, the front desk person was friendly but after giving me my room keys, he had failed to explained where the restaurant, afternoon tea, spa facilities, bar and room is. He also failed to explained what time is breakfast, our afternoon tea room that we paid for and what time is late check out that we are entitled for from our voucher we have bought. My friends and I had to ask in order to get directions. I am in shock because this is the most basic thing to do for your customers. I believe if this hotel wants to improve their ratings, they need to train up their newbies to be much more professional and someone with common sense in the hotel industry.
Very disorganised. Employees in this hotel doesn't seem to communicate to one another. They messed up our treatments timing and did not notify us the changes. I think this needs improving as it's really not ideal for my friends and I to drive one and a half hour away to this place for a spa weekend, just to be let down.
Breakfast coffee - what coffee? They ran out of coffee in the machine and no one checked or bother to filled up until customers have to tell the waitress. When they did fill it up, it was the worse coffee I've ever drank in my entire life. The breakfast was alright only.
Spa receptionist - my friends arrived there to use the facilities and the receptionist said they ran out of robes as well as slippers. My friend had to complaint to get their slippers, they have it in the store room, the receptionist just refused to look for it. And when the receptionist showed them around, it clearly says no shoes allow at some areas and we are in shock that they just walk in wit slippers? The spa facilities are very small, pool not warm enough.
I've been to many hotels and travel quite often to many places and countries, I have never been so exhausted after a spa weekend trip in my entire life. It hasn't been relaxing at all, this place management really needs improving because it's such a shame! The building itself is lovely and the outside of the building, they have such lovely lake and garden, a very nice place for weddings.
The only thing I will praise is the front office manager who took initiatives to make sure she sort our issues out with our treatments that we didn't get to do during our...
