I have spent a considerable amount of time here in a short period, total of 10-12 weeks. I am.aware we are all.used to different surroundings and expectations, however, I can't speak highly enough of the premises and staff. I don't know everyone's names so I'm sorry.
You walk through the doors to an impressive, warm welcoming reception area. Greeted well and prompt by staff, depending on who's working at that time and always a smile. I've had a single and double room (double with a bath) and both were suitable for my needs, nice decor and cosey. Good sized TV, comfortable beds, tea and coffee facilities, toiletries replaced each day if needed. The breakfast menu is good and typical, I would think of the standards of such place. The veggie breakfast was my favourite. Selection of pastries and fruit is fantastic.
Dinner time is magnificent in the Eglinton. The staff were beyond accomodating to myself and my own needs (anxieties), polite, friendly and nothing was ever a hassle. If anything, I was the hassle. The atmosphere was always calm and comfortable with lighting set so well. Again the decor is exceptional. I never had a bad meal in the restaurant. I was even used as a tester at times for new menu ideas which was an excellent surprise and much appreciated. Jay and Norbert in the restaurant are a fine example of the service in the Eglinton. True Gentlemen, professional and friendly. The company will do well to keep the two lads with them because their service is priceless.
The housekeeping staff (girls) were brilliant, making sure your room is spotless and welcoming after returning from a day at work. They made sure I had extra milk and tea for weeks after I had asked. And they were really funny when they came in, in the AM. Nice to hear in the morning.
The manager is so friendly and always happy to stop and chat with you. As I was there so often I was invited to events that were on during my time there and he always insisted, I much appreciated his kindness.
I will be sad to leave the Eglinton but I will return as frequently as possible for pleasure rather than work. I'm sorry I've missed staff members out here, more so the girls on reception whos names I do not know. They were great with...
Read moreThe Eglington Arms in Eaglesham is a lovely hotel, from the road it looks like a long white building, but you go round the side to the entrance & it looks lovely especially at night, with the outdoor lights on. It has an outdoor with tables. I found all the staff very helpful, we had an issue with the shower in our room, the thermostat wouldn't turn so stayed on too hot, so within 10 minutes we had been moved to a different room by the very helpful Sara on reception(that lady is so helpful to everybody) also said they would move our luggage for us, if we wanted. The bathrooms are a bit on the small side, but they have all you need and a nice big shower enclosure The food was very nice starters, mains and desserts, breakfast was a combination of help yourself to cereal, pastries, yoghurts fruit juice and fruit, then the waiting staff poured, tea, coffee, and took the orders for a cooked breakfast and toast. There was one morning where a few people all came down at once, and the service went to pot a bit with the 2 girls who were trying to do it all between them, i gave up after asking 3 times for just egg, bacon and mushrooms, and just had bacon and toast, speaking to one of the managers on the way out to tell him the girls were overwhelmed on the way out, we had the the offer of a freshly cooked breakfast, and they were cooking for people after breakfast finished. We also had a lady that had intolerances to certain ingredients, and they made sure, they spoke to her every day about her dinner and she had different options, very helpful. The hotel is in a village, which has a few shops Morrisons daily, & a premier if you need anything, it also has some eatiful views if you go for a walk about. I would definitely stay there again ,just up the road from Glasgow, & about an hour or so from Edingburgh, definitely somewhere nice & peaceful to stay out...
Read moreTHIS REVIEW IS BASED SOLELY ON THE RESTAURANT FACILITIES OF THE HOTEL. I haven't reviewed the rooms, as I was only there to eat, not for an overnight stay.
The food was mostly enjoyable, and, in general, the service was fine. The background music was probably over 'background' level, but it was tolerable.
The enjoyable food and fine service were unfortunately tainted at the end of our experience by a rather humiliating incident caused by poor communication from staff.
One of the party was limited on what they could eat (GF dietary requirements). When she asked the waitress about specific ingredients in some dishes, the waitress couldn't provide the information, despite going to ask for advice. This wasn't ideal, as the party member was obviously more limited on choices to avoid risks, but we were able to make it work by sticking solely to a main meal they felt was safe.
I had already paid the full bill for our party of four, left a tip, etc., and was about to depart the restaurant when the waitress advised me there had been an underpayment due to an error on the bill (the menu didn't state individual dish pricing so we had no way of questioning this). She advised I would have to be charged an additional sum for food we did not order, we were not served, and we did not eat. I questioned how this applied, but she couldn't explain it beyond that we had chosen not to order additional dishes. I couldn't understand this; however, rather than cause more embarrassment within the group, I paid up and left.
This definitely tainted what should have been an enjoyable experience and has deterred me from future visits or...
