Fabulous place. Immaculate toilet  and shower block. Very friendly and helpful staff.

We were told to pitch a certain metreage between tents. Which we did.

Unfortunately a goose stepping, knuckle dragging, Scottish/German gentleman (a fellow camper who returned to the site with his sister and "friend") in a string vest, who clearly had some form of mild tourettes or social autism kicked off that we were too close to his campervan, and virtue signalling his covid piousness. (The sort that wear 3 masks and wash there hands for longer than 20 seconds making sure that you notice them doing it like a displaying peacock and fawn over every new tyrannical rule that members of government don't follow themselves.)

After explaining that we had followed the instructions given by the helpful reception lady, he continued with his purile snowflake vitriol and at one point I thought I was going to receive a Glasgow kiss with a "see you Jimmy" as I hit the deck from a full on headbutt, fortunately the gentleman's sister shouted "Hoots Rab yeh cannie do eit, yooz spill ya juice loose about the ploose!" from around her cigarette, she was correct as his mug of Irn Bru mixed with Buckfast was spilling everywhere.

Eventually he went to shop us in like a good Gestapo informant (good job Anne Frank wasn't camping here) at reception for breaking corony "guidelines".

We've been cycle touring the UK for the past 6 weeks and never had a problem before. (Super spreading in his eyes one expects)

Later a staff member politely told us that we had to move (even though loads of other campers weren't following the "guidelines" including Rabs mate in the tent next to him, who didn't come from the same house hold, shock horror.... Is his name Matt Hancock.... that's another 82 year old dieing a slow death alone in hospital stuck on a ventilator.... Do as I say not do as I do) and there was no point getting in an argument. Even when a new batch of people replaced the old the next day.....

Rise above. Don't stoop to that level.

You don't really want to be told to leave the campsite when you've cycled 40 miles to get there on a rather hot and humid day. So we did as we were told. Like good honest Christians.

It was a actually a real pleasure to move our tents upwind of said campervan. And almost out of earshot although the expletives continued through to the next day.

You cant rate campsites on the other guests (although others did also say they couldn't believe the way the gentleman and sister behaved, one commenting that a fellow camper was about to go over and "bat" Rab because of his behaviour) unless they attract certain characters. It's a one off I'm reckoning as I've never experienced behaviour like that before in all my years of camping and was quite an amusing experience to see that people like that do really exist in the world. So if you ever see a blue VW camper (reg no: SNP C4NT with a cock and balls drawn on the drivers side hub caps, steer clear.)

It's still 5 stars from me.... and I would definitely come back.

I would recommend that the site adds a "safe place" for people like the gentleman and his sister above who can't seem to cope with the real world until they can calm down from their mind virus.

Also I would put stickers up in the toilets "brush, flush and clean the toilet after use" toilet brushes were provided and some of the toilets were left in a terrible state before the toilet cleaning fairy came round and worked her magic.

The experience did leave a bad taste in my mouth, a sort of puss filled cancerous haggis sort of flavour. But you move on. Always looking at the positives. I got to put my tarp up twice and practice my knots. No offence meant to any Scottish folk reading this.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. Lovely campsite in a...

Beautiful Views but overall a very basic site upon which we had a very unpleasant camping experience. The natural beauty surrounding this site is idyllic but there the positives ended for us.

I booked the stay. I was not made aware of any of the site's draconian , archaic and liberty infringing rules prior to the stay. Initially it appeared cheaper than other sites in the vicinity. The early season price was £19 however on arrival we realised that a shower cost an additional 50p (in cols and shabby shower rooms) and wifi cost £2 a day meaning effectively the cost was £23 per day at least.

The site feels not to focus on the needs of customers but on the regimented rules of the site owners.

We were arriving after work. I was told that the gates would be locked at 9pm which meant a race up the M6/A66 in torrential rain. Had we been informed of this on booking we would have booked one of several neighboring sites with the usual keypad entrances. On arrival the signage on the gate said they were locked at 10.00pm.

The staff we encountered were extremely directive, wore yellow high visibility yellow jackets at all times and had 'warden' written across their backs. The site office had limited opening times.

On arrival my partner was directed to a space and shown 'precisely where to park. The following day several other vans arrived and were parked very close together in a row with ours. The space between next door and ourselves was minimal. I have camped for over 40 years and expected considerably more privacy and space.

My partner had invited two clients of his to share some food on the Saturday evening. They arrived at 8pm. We are in our sixties and quiet by nature as are they. They are important clients of my partner's business and live locally. About two minutes after they arrived there was a knock on the door of the van telling us that they must, 'move their car immediately as visitors cars are not allowed on site.' Our visitors moved their car immediately. We were embarrassed and apologised to them for the tone of the directive. They moved it. At 10.30 there was another knock on the door asking them to leave as there is apparently a 'silence rule' after 10.30pm. This was embarrassing and patronising especially considering that on paying we were not informed of these rules.

I have since looked on line and there are many reviews mentioning the patrolling and monitoring of talking within tents and vans. To have wardens respond to noisy or inconsiderate campers is understandable but someone creeping around quietly listening for murmurs is intrusive and inappropriate. Our guests left as requested but spoke to their neighbors the following day. Luckily there was no damage to my partner's business as locally the site is known for this inappropriate snooping which culturally does not fit on an English campsite. The wardens sounded to have South African accents so just maybe this fits with some old African customs around camping. It does not fit in the Lake District.

There is a lovely friendly site adjacent with superb customer focused facilities. We will not be returning. Quiet is usual for me after 40 years of camping. Silence patrolled is unreasonable to say the least. You have...

My husband and I had a dreadful experience at castlerigg farm camp site. The worst aspect of it was the dictatorial attitude towards us regarding the word ''silence'. When you arrive they give you a list of rules, one of which is that there is to be silence after 10.30pm. One would reasonably interpret this as no chatty groups outside the tent late into the night, no music after then and no radios etc. We did not realise that this to the camp owners means no actual speech from anyone after 10.30 at night. The site is 'patrolled' by wardens which you might say is fair enough. However, we did not expect the wardens to be used in the following manner. When getting ourselves ready for bed, quietly talking between ourselves, as couples do, then to have a voice coming from through the tent, adjacent to where we lay, telling us that as it was after 10.30 we must be silent, was appalling and a complete infringement of our personal freedom. I told the individual through the canvas, that it was not appropriate to impose this on people who were within their own tent particularly in view of the quietness of our conversation. He replied that we had agreed to the rules when we entered the site. I felt it a complete violation that we were being listened to by this individual whilst we were going to bed. One would have been hard pressed to hear that we were speaking unless the listener had come very close to our sleeping quarters. I am entitled to talk to my husband and nobody is going to tell me otherwise. I am indeed appalled by this camp site's managerial style and attitude.

The facilities on the web site are described as clean, which they most certainly are not. The Ladies loo bins were full to overflowing with all sorts first thing this morning and the shower cubicles were unkempt and in a poor state of decoration. Everywhere you look here are signs telling you what you cannot do, where you cannot go, what you cannot use this or that for.

All in all, I am extremely angry about the manner in which we were treated. I am a respectful person who understands how to behave on a campsite. I do not normally bother to write reviews for places we have visited but this place deserves my full, wrathful attention.

We shall never be visiting this site again. We have never been treated in this manner before.. At a camp site for goodness sake!! It is supposed to be fun!!!!! Don't go to is camp site even if you only whisper... They will...

due to own preference i have only given 3⭐️ overall for site Site is up a narrow road which could be busy during summer months, park is set on a slope which gives you beautiful views over the area. 5⭐️Toilets!! 5⭐️ small dog walk on site. 4⭐️Shop: had basic stock but were told the site further down main road had a bigger choice. Had a lovel room with microwave, coffee machine and other items for campers that didn't have facilities on board along with a seating area if you wanted to get out of rain if you were in tents. Didn't use laundry, wash up area or drying room. Amazing walks from the site and a lovely walk down into keswick. 3⭐️pitches: we like our van and awning on gravel pitch but due to pitch set up van is on gravel and awning is on uneven grass, if we had put our awning up it would have touched the van next to us as pitches are fairly close to each other. Site is fairly open and on our last night the wind picked up and caused a few others to loose their awnings as they hadn't been pegged down adequately (take plenty of pegs) Facilities are all down at main entrance. Site is set on a hill with all facilities at the bottom (its not miles and miles away but when you've got toilet waste to carry it's a bit of a distance, we were told we would have to move pitches during our stay as our putch was booked the van that was on our pitch took all their awning down to move two pitches along we then moved 2 pitches others on the site were moving pitches around and most of us all left on the Monday morning so probably could have been left on pitch we were on. Lovely views from campsite.

Friendly and informative welcome. Our pitch was close to the main reception area which was a bit of a downside as we would have preferred to be more out of the way. The site is on a slope so wheel blocks are required for your van. There are good walks nearby. We walked down the hill to Keswick on the first day, which is only a couple of miles. There is a good bus service back up to the end of the road which we would recommend as the hill is quite steep. There is a street food van on site which provides something different every night. We had amazing pizzas on our first night and fantastic burgers on our second night. This site does operate a strict silence policy after 10:30. This is advertised when booking and re-stated on arrival. It presented us with no problems at all as we were sound asleep by that time anyway. Good toilet block. Bright and clean and obviously cleaned regularly. Great shower cubicles. There’s also a wee shop which provides some essentials. Wi-fi was strong and stable. There are a variety of pitches available here. We had a hardstanding pitch with electric hookup for our campervan and a decent sized awning, Plenty of space.

Lovely campsite with stunning views all around. The Helvellyn range is viewed at the top (east) of the campsite, Skiddaw to the north and Cat Bells and loads more to the west and south. The site is very well kept, with tourers to the north side of the site and tents to the south, although only divided by a stone wall. There is a campers day room with cooking facilities, books, and a few DVD's to borrow. There are male and female toilets/shower blocks next to each other in the same building, and these are immaculately kept. The reception is at the front of the building and little shop at the opposite site of the reception, selling most camping essentials. There are strict curfews on noise, and silence outside / inside caravan awnings / tents after 10.30pm, which keeps everyone happy. An on site café, The Hayloft, serves the most amazing food, breakfast and dinner and evening meals every day except Tuesday and Wednesday, when they are closed. All in all, well worth a stay. One tip, if you have a tent or caravan awning, ask for a plot lower down the site, as it can get extremely windy when a storm blows in, and the top half of the site really gets hit!
