I wanted to visit a particular area of Wales that was on my bucket list - My daughter booked this lovely place as a surprise for my 70th birthday.||So here is my opinion and views.|||ARRIVAL|We pulled up just outside the electronic wrought iron gates and I first noticed the short leafy tree lined drive, leading to, what I can only describe as a absolute beauty of a place. nestled in a vast well kept garden, with an abundance of features, flowers, plants ornament, water fountains, wildlife, birds.||The gates opened and we were met by our hosts Cathy & Howard with big beaming smiles and full of welcomes and handshakes - IWe eventuially got to establish that we had some much in common, sharing the same haunts when we were from the same county and both knew the same friends - What a small world.||We then took the short walk from the parking area and Wow..!!!|| |FIRST IMPRESSIONS|As we rounded the small bend ...again wow...yes.. I repeat....Wow..!! The house is massive and with the sun and shadows, bouncing off it..was the typical choclate box picture.||As we walked in, to the main reception - the place is genuinely jaw-dropping stunning. Everything as mentioned in other reviews were true..stunning.!!||HOSTS|Cathy and Howard - two of the nicest hosts you could ever wish to meet. The lovely welsh accents - isnit..now then..!! - So pleased to welcome us, you would never have thought we had onlu just met. and Diamond couple.||LAYOUT|Every room had lovely pictures and photographs hanging on the walls, books on the tables, ornaments, on the shelves, Climbing up the open spiral staircase lead tus to the....||BEDROOMS|A large double bed in my room. Lovely views overlooking the garden and fountain. Full en-suite with large roomy shower and a big deep bath. Clean towels, toiletries - Tea, coffee, choclate - Again..spotless.||The bed was queen size and I slept like a log||BREAKFAST|What can you say about a good old traditional full a Welsh (English) Breakfast Eggs, bacon, Sausages, Mushrooms,Beans - Toast.Marmalade,Jam A variety of cereals, home made granola, array of fruits, yogurts, advocados.||They say that if you look carefully, you may find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow... Well that maybe true, but we didnt have any rain when we arrived and found our pot of gold.||Cathy and Howard - You are a credit to yourselves, a credit to each other, to your friends and to your guests, who had the great fortune of meeting you..||NEGATIVE|Nothing - except we only stayed for just two nights.and had to leave - But promised we will return..Promise.||Well I have given my honest opinion... Would I recommend Gellihaf House.||I think my review speaks for itself....Don`t you ..???||Terry, Mary, Katie,Dave...
Read moreMy Husband and I stayed here for 2 nights instead of staying in Central Cardiff- it was only an easy 35 minute drive away, and im so glad we did-what an absolute gem of a place!!! I don't even know where to start, it's stunning. Every aspect of your stay is catered to- if you need any information on the area or things to do- then both Cath and Howard can list many things to do and see, as well as places to eat. The rooms are luxurious, immaculate and everything is of the highest standard and quality. Comfy beds and beautiful bed linen ensures a great nights sleep! Lovely spacious bathroom, and a shower I didnt want to get out of! Breakfast each morning was a complete knockout too. Fresh fruits and yogurt, freshly made (served still warm) bread, blueberry muffins and granola- all made by the wonderful Cath! Followed by a delicious fry up- items of your choice all meats provided by the local butcher- we couldn't fault it. Cath and Howard are the most perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble!!! (If Carlsberg made B&B hosts!!!) try and take the time to look at all the (vast) beautiful pictures and memorabilia dotted around the place, the history is astounding! We can't wait to visit again!!! (Until then, we off to stick a fence around some land....cheers Howard!!!) Can't reccomend the place enough!!...
Read moreThis was our second stay at Gellihaf House visiting family, but our first summer visit. This enabled us to make use of the beautifully maintained garden which was ideal to enjoy a glass of wine (or two) in the evening sunshine under the pergola.||Our room (The Taff) was as comfortable and immaculate as our last visit 18 months ago and the freshly home cooked breakfasts were as equally delicious. As other reviewers have said, and we agree, the attention to detail and the comfort of the guests are a priority for hosts Cath and Howard. ||Gellihaf House is an ideal location for anyone wishing to visit South Wales with the amazing Caerphilly Castle a short drive away. We had a delicious meal with family at Bistro 8, a local restaurant, which we would highly recommend.||Another amazing stay at this wonderful Arts & Crafts country house and we very much look forward to...
