We spent three nights at the Highland Basecamp and were pleasantly surprised by the facilities and hospitality of the owners. As soon as we arrived, Dave was quick to welcome us (he also went out of his way to give us a lift to the wedding we were attending when it started raining at top of the hill) and checking in/out was super quick and easy with the lockbox system. The room itself was small but very clean and fit the essentials - the underfloor heating was a great touch and the beds were comfortable for a bunk bed. Along with a great view from the door (Room 2). The shared kitchen facilities were great and allowed us to store both frozen and chilled food, as well as cook proper meals with the various pots, pans, and kitchen utensils that were available. The sharing shelf with oils and seasonings also came in handy! Overall, a great place to stay when visiting Lochaline and we would definitely recommend/stay there again!

What a great place. Silent (as opposed to creaky) bunk beds!! Underfloor heating with own controls in the room. Kitchen defo one of best I've had in a hostel. My only suggestion would be the addition of a toilet facility independent of your room, perhaps near the communal area/lounge. Pic is view from room to the ferry. We left car on Mull and hopped over as foot passengers each day we went.

We were cycling around scotland and discovered this little treasure. Very clean and convenient hostel with private bathrooms. Super friendly and helpful host. Especially if you wanna explore the beautiful region around Lochaline, Dave has some great recommendations! We had a fantastic stay and will be back for sure! Next time maybe with mountainbikes 🤘

This is an excellent facility which leaves most other bunkhouses in the shade. It is especially good for groups. ||14 of us from the Lothian Sea Kayak Club arrived there on Friday 5th April, just as Storm Kathleen also arrived ! This literally blew a big hole in our kayaking plans, so it was great to have the communal spaces of the Bunkhouse to use as a group, for our alternative, land-based plans. It was also a great space for our music session on the Saturday night! ||The Bunkhouse has twin self-contained bunk rooms, each one with its own external access & lockable door. All have en-suite shower & toilet plus underfloor heating. The large kitchen & lounge area are very well equipped; there are effectively 2 complete kitchens, with 2 x full-size 4-ring cookers and full ovens and 2 microwaves. There is a full selection of pots, pans, utensils, cutlery & crockery. The lounge has 1 large dining table and 2 smaller dining tables, plus sofas and low tables. There is also a full decking area with picnic benches, for when the sun shines. There is a good-sized drying room with good hanging space and good parking on-site & nearby.||The Bunkhouse is run very efficiently by Fee, Fraser & Dave. They were super-helpful during the booking process and throughout the time we were there. They are keen to have it used by groups and their Group Booking rates are very competitive. It is definitely well-suited for this purpose.||They are also very dog-friendly!||At the end of our stay, Fee asked us if there was anything they could do to improve the facilities. None of the 14 of us could think of anything, so I think that is testament to the quality of the facilities :-)||We...

A fantastic base for exploring the area and very easy to get to Mull from Highland Basecamp. Me and my wife just had a really lovely three nights there. The beds are comfy. The bedding is lovely. The towels are large, cotton and luxurious. The shower was endlessly hot. The cookware and equipment was nice (decent pans, good non-stick frying pans and induction hob) and the setting was perfect.

The kitchen and lounge area is all set up to encourage geniality, conversation and interaction with other guests and is therefore friendly and welcoming. During our three nights we met and chatted with a Dutch documentary maker, two marine biologists, a Caledonian Macbrayne ferry worker, a retired environmental agricultural manager, a solo cyclist, an outdoor pursuits specialist and a good number of cheery divers, not to mention Fraser and Dave (sorry, can’t remember the lassy’s name) who own the place and who are very approachable and engaging.

Overall I therefore heartily recommend Highland...
