After having our baby girl my husband and I decided to go away from London and treat ourselves with a nice SPA weekend on Easter 2016. By the time we made up our mind not many hotels still had have rooms available and we went for Homewood park. We paid for 2 nights (approx. £220 each night). Arrived and booked ourselves a table in the hotel restaurant for dinner. We brought a baby with us and was hoping to have a nice family break. We went to dinner, I had some scallops and cod, we left for our room. (Just for the record dinner costed us something about £135) In the middle of the night I woke up because I was very nauseous. As a result it turned out to be food poisoning that I got from dinner in the hotel, timing was not working for other meals I had that day. Instead of spending the night relaxing I was very sick until evening next day. We tried calling reception to check if they had any medication several times but no one answered. In the morning I still wasn't well. My husband went to the reception to report the situation. The only request we made was to make some chicken broth for me so I could at least have some food and knowing me that's the only thing that I was able to eat in this condition. The reply was that they don't have ingredients to make it!!! This is unbelievable as chicken broth is the easiest thing to make. You literally need any part of chicken, water and some salt. That's it! But no, instead they tried offering us some fancy cream soups which I'm obviously wouldn't be able to digest.
After that answer we decided to go home to recover. We checked out around 12:00pm (an hour after check out time) and asked them for refund for a night we didn't stay. Receptionist told us that she couldn't authorize this operation and general manager would call us the next day to give us decision on the matter. She didn't even apologized to me personally and I was sitting right infront of her.
The next day the manager called and said that they'd investigated situation and no one else got food poisoning meaning that they don't consider it their fault and therefore will not refund us anything. They said though that when we come back next time (haha) they'll make us a good offer.
So I'd like all of you to consider this before choosing this hotel. I hope that won't happen to anyone else. But that's a shame that hotel management doesn't have it to admit that something might have been wrong with my food even though others didn't have any reaction. I'm a breastfeeding mum with 4months old baby that I needed to take care of but couldn't properly for almost 2 days. We are not asking to reimburse us for dinner (and we could!!), we just asked to return back the cost of one night we didn't stay at the hotel. And the chicken broth thing is ridiculous. We would have stayed the second night and they wouldn't have this review if they made an effort to help me. There were chicken wings in my dinner plate so I assume they should have had some in their kitchen...
Read moreWe could not fault the service of the staff. They were lovely from the get go - they even put a pregnancy pillow in the room for me as well as arranging a Congratulations plate for our babymoon. ||We stayed in two rooms, the Mews Marvellous Room and the Mews Hot Tub room. Interestingly, our favourite was the Marvellous room with its huge bathroom and general facilities within. The Hot Tub room although nice needed some maintenance - no heated towel rail (or it wasn’t working), cracks in the wall near the bath, mould under the marble bath top and the bathroom window had no privacy blind or frosting (so if you were in the hot tub, you could see if your partner was going to the loo!). You also could not adjust the hot tub temperature yourself and had to ask maintenance to do so. Everything in the hot tub room felt a bit squished and not roomy, whereas the Marvellous room had more space.||Breakfast was a highlight, especially the idea of having a starter and main rather than a buffet selection - I particularly enjoyed the chorizo hash and melon and pineapple. ||We ate in the restaurant - choices were good if you don’t mind eating lots of fancy things but fussy eaters beware - you’d be better off going into Bath for more choices.|Servers were friendly. A concern we had was that staff let dogs into the main restaurant area when it clearly said on the website that dogs were only allowed in the conservatory or outside.||Lovely unlimited pick n mix, plus brownies in the room. We booked through Mr and Mrs Smith so our Smith Extra was champagne and chocolates. We requested to not have the champagne as our Smith Extra given I am pregnant and we are not drinking alcohol and requested extra chocolates instead - turns out these were 3 single chocolates on a plate which didn’t seem much of an extra given they’d saved on the champagne! We did mention this to staff who were apologetic and brought up another 2 chocolates - but when wording on the website is ‘ a selection of luxury chocolates’ surely you’d expect a small box?||Spa was nice, if busy as it was hot. Several people had claimed sun loungers and had clearly gone off for the day - perhaps best to put signs up to stop this! I had a pregnancy massage which was lovely and the therapist was very good and sensitive to what I needed. ||Staff were easily available by the WhatsApp system which saved walking down to reception or phoning. ||Overall we would return - but would pick the mews marvellous room again and choose to attend the spa during a breakfast slot or very late...
Read moreThis was my second stay at Homewood after experiencing it with my partner last year. I wanted to treat my mum to a spa escape for her birthday and my grandma came along too. From the start the hotel were extremely understanding of all my questions regarding suitability for my grandma (who struggles with her mobility). They provided advice about the best rooms and access to all the areas of the hotel. I decided last minute to upgrade to a Mews Hot Tub Suite and it was the best decision ever. The room was beautiful and spacious and we had a lovely outside terrace to sit out on and enjoy the incredible views. If you want quiet then the Mews building is a short walk from the main building and boasts stunning views. We used our hot tub several times a day as well as relaxing in the spa. Mum and I spent 2 solid days in the spa as we loved it so much, in the pouring rain and in the sunshine. It was a magical experience. The restaurant served lovely home grown, fresh and tasty food. We also had an afternoon tea which was fantastic. Again, the hotel were very accommodating with our dietary needs and couldn’t do enough for us. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel feels very relaxed and personable and as a result you feel like they truly care about your experience whilst staying with them. It is clear great pride is taken in all aspects of a guests experience and feedback is welcomed. The hotel is very dog friendly which we loved seeing all the different types of dogs who had come for their holidays. We are dog owners ourselves and so loved seeing all the dogs. All the dogs were so well behaved. I’ve read some comments from other guests about not being allowed to stay in the spa after check out which is true but to me it is common sense. The hotel care about their guests experience and of course they need to be sensible and limit the numbers in the spa so everyone can enjoy it. We were lucky enough to have had the whole place to ourselves at some points during our stay (we think the rain put people off) but on the day we arrived the spa was very busy, so they do need to be careful about numbers. We are all going to be returning in January for our Center parcs ‘stop over’ and I’m sure it will be a regular break for our whole family in future. We have stayed in lots of spa hotels across the U.K. and this one is by far my favourite. Thank you for making my mums birthday so special and for being so accommodating with my grandma, we all loved our stay and will be...
