Stayed in one of the apartments downstairs 2 summers ago.

Great location, and the view from the apartment was beautiful. But the 2 mattresses on the bed needed to be put in the bin; springs sticking up, lumpy, collapsed on one side. The bed frame itself made so much noise if you rolled over it woke you up. Had to sleep on the floor due to this. The rest of the apartment was fine. Simple, but it had all the amenities we needed (except a washing machine, but that's not a deal breaker), and well laid out. The other down side was it was located directly below the 'family room' in the pub, so in the evenings, the noise in the lounge was extremely noticeable.

Beer was not bad, 4 or 5 different beers most nights, most were kept well, even if not to my taste. My wife enjoyed the range of fruity ciders (from Somerset, so not local at all). Food was (as has been previously mentioned) quite expensive, but worth it for some dishes, not for others. Big sign on the wall outside states lots if single malt whisky's, not a single one was available, so was slightly put out by that.

Returned a couple of weeks later when up in that part of the world for a DofE Gold Expedition. Mentioned to the landlord that I stayed there a couple of weeks previous and it was good to see him again, and he blanked me, even so the colleague I was with mentioned that he thought the landlord was rather...

Very convenient place for camp sites and people are nice however, the food wasn't great. Starter and mains both significantly overcooked. Special was a mince and onion pie which was actually mince and peas with no sign of any onions and was very dry as it don't have any gravy inside. Burger was so overcooked it was hard as was the bap it came in. Sausage and mash came out as sausage and chips so that had to go back too. 2 of our 6 meals were ok (ribeye steak and gammon) and the landlady who served us was very gracious and apologetic when we did mention the issues and didn't charge us for the burger meal however, it was still very expensive (due to the location and the fact is it is the only pub around) and we were quite disappointed and didn't go back for the rest of our weeks stay. Having said all that the redeeming feature was the deserts, we had sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie and they were all excellent! In summary, go for a pudding and you won't be...

Beer good pub food amazing, would advise the haddock fish cakes OMG amazing. Came here for the weekend with my partner and dog and they allow the dog in everywhere, very quiet in which we wanted. You can walk for miles and they also have a train that takes you around and stop off to spend a few hours in different destinations before coming back. John the landlord was Brill. Told us where the best places to walk and visit, nothing is too much trouble for him very helpful. Staff are really good. Seascale only 15-20 minutes in car, good run on the beach for the dog. Ice cream parlour was amazing best ice cream I have tasted in a while (and I'm not a big ice cream lover). The flat we was in was ample size for us, clean, everything we needed. Must say we have had a fantastic stay, just the break we needed. Would defo come back again and highly recommend to anyone who wants a nice chilled weekend and...

6th-9th June 2024: Pulp Brewery: Piña Colada 3.4% 8th-10th June 2023: back again, this time for the Boot Beer Festival. 23rd-25th May 2022: having been coming to the village of Boot in Eskdale since 2004, the King George IV traditional coaching inn has had a fair share of visits over the years. Recently taken on by the team at the Bower House Inn, close by, the George hosts a small selection of ales, has a pool table and darts board. Small seating area at the front and a good seating area at the back. Beautiful views all round. A staple pub to visit on any stay in Eskdale, even if just passing through! Excellent location from Fisherground Campsite or The Chalets. Closest Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway station is The Green. Previous trips: May 2022, October 2020, March 2019, June 2017, July 2013, July 2008, September 2007, September 2005, August 2004

A traditional pub I would daresay in a very amazing / central location, which offers accommodation as well (which we came to know later). The food was amazing and my 6 year kid enjoyed the pizza and fries. The chicken burger portions were massive and especially after a long walk, the food here will be enough to bring your energy back. The pub has a lot of history, evident from the photos displayed, that were taken almost 100 years old. The hosts are ever accommodating, and I would definitely ask you to try their pizza or burgers. There are tables on the back and on outside for a sunny day. Pool table is also available

Our large crew rolled into the pub like we were on a mission: Operation Feed the Troops! And boy, did we hit the jackpot! The portion of food was plenty, prices were reasonable (like you didn’t need a second mortgage) and there were praises flying from every corner from our group regarding taste and size. I devoured the Thai green curry and it just had all the right flavours, making my taste buds dancing the Macarena. Toilets were clean, parking were available, child and dog friendly place. There were ppl playing pool too so I would assume it’s a hot spot for social gathering when the sun goes down.
