I stayed overnight in the B&B room. Having stayed here before on a motorcycle trip from Ness Point, Lowestoft to Land's End in the middle of summer, I determined to return on my quest to ride an electric motorcycle trip from Lowestoft to Land's End in one journey.
The B&B had just been acquired by new owners when I arrived, but they were equally as welcoming as the previous owners. I was in contact with Nico and due to issues with rapid chargers in Cornwall and initial technical issues I was running extremely late.
Nico couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. He offered to leave the key somewhere secure and offered the use of the summer house for charging my bike overnight (it wasn't suitable, but it was a lovely offer to make). In the event, the bike was sheltered in the small courtyard area anyway, so was safely out of the worst of the elements.
Nico messaged me to inform me that there had been weather warnings issued and when I did finally turn up at 02:40 in the morning (03:40 in my body clock, since the clocks went back during the course of my ride), I found it was indeed in horrific rain and wind.
To see the bedside light on in the room as I drew into the car park was wonderful and warming - a most welcome sight.
The room, as before, was very clean and self-service breakfast provisions were provided - fruit, a selection of cereals, bread, butter, etc.
The good thing about this set-up is if you should be peckish on arrival, there's something healthy to tuck in to.
I managed to catch up with Nico in the morning just before I left and had a bit of a chat. He was most keen that I had had a positive experience and valued any feedback.
I have nothing but positive feedback.
A very friendly welcome. I'll most certainly return again at some point and I wish the new owners every success in...
Read moreThis is hardly a hostel. Well some rooms might be, but mine was like a 5 star hotel. Maybe that’s why the only low reviews seem confused with who they are reviewing. You can not give this place anything other than 5 stars. You have everything you need and the breakfast latest me two days. A whole freshly baked loaf, eggs and loads more but to much to mention, although I will comment on the coffee which I believe is the owner’s son’s own roast that he sells next door. Best coffee I’ve had on my LEJOG journey thus far (just wish I had room to stock up on my journey). Lou and Mike are the best hosts and are all set up for LEJOG’ers with bikes. I had some pretty bad weather whilst there, but took refuge in my cozy room. When it did turn out nice, I took on Lou’s recommendation to visit Porthcurno (stunning) and the Minack Theatre (an open door amphitheatre nestled into the rugged cliffs) before taking the stunning, moderate 2 hour coastal walk back to Land’s End. I thought Land’s End was more of a novelty place to visit and was so pleasantly surprised to find it’s so much more. I could have spent a week there. Thanks so much for your amazing hospitality. P.s. I noticed a “For Sale” sign and meant to ask... I do hope this place will be around for others to enjoy as much as I did....
Read moreLocated in a converted barn just 1/4 mile from the start/finish, the Land's End Hostel and B&B is ideal for the end-to-ender.
The property has been converted to a very high standard and the first thing to strike you as you enter the building itself is the half room wall sized mural depicting the famous Land's End signpost. If you want to save a 1/4 mile from your trip you could have your photo taken right here!
There is a shared kitchen and a number of bath/shower rooms which were spotlessly clean and well maintained. Plenty of hot water. The bedrooms were equally clean, neat and tidy and the bed was comfortable providing a good night's sleep, despite the nervous prospect of setting off on a 950 mile cycle early the next morning. It was very quiet, although there was only one other guest staying on the night I was there at the end of September, pretty much on the far edge of the season for End to Ending.
The Breakfast in a Basket idea is inspired! It is ideal for cyclists, providing a heavy dose of slow release calories that will see you through the first couple of hours of cycling. And being a self catering type of option you can get up and eat it at whatever...
