AVOID AT ALL COST!! Attended with my family as a party of 8 on Christmas Day for dinner. You will see some reviews below expressing how much of a disaster this was, but words cannot accurately describes just how badly wrong this went!
From the moment of arrival we knew something was wrong, we had to check our own coats and then navigate to our table ourselves. We could tell right away there was a problem as some guest were already starting to complain from the moment we sat down. The whole afternoon was an absolute disasters which could have very nearly ended up much worse, as we heard some of the guests had been served food they were allergic too, even after specifically mentioning to the waiting staff. They are very lucky somebody wasn’t killed due to anaphylactic shock!
I can’t speak for everyone’s experience and specific wait time but we arrived at 1:45pm and didn’t see any food not even a bread roll until 3:30pm. Bear in mind we were asked to supply a pre-order before we arrived, so this should have all been organised before we had even got down there. When our starters did eventually arrive they were cold / dry, half the food was undercooked the other half overcooked. Totally inedible!
At this point my father and I decided enough was enough and we stormed back into the kitchen with our plates in hand and returned them to the kitchen ourselves. Explaining just how much of a shambles it had all been! We didn’t wait for the main course but from reading some of the reviews it appear to have gotten worse as the day went on! Thank god we didn’t stay and end up with campylobacter
The worst thing for me was the staff! Absolutely no-one seemed to care or even offer up an explanation as to what had gone wrong! I think this is what has prompted me writing this review. As a business owner I can fully appreciate things go wrong and businesses/individuals shouldn’t automatically be called out on social media, but the fact is no one at Loch Green yesterday was willing to offer up an explanation or even a heart felt apology as to what happened.
The “manager” (and I use this term very loosely) who you might have already heard about, decided after 2 hours of service to stand on a table and make a pretty p* poor attempt at an apology, which if anything provoked the room more! Rather than offering a heartfelt apology and just telling us the truth as to what went wrong, he decided it was best to get everyone drunk and said he was “Santa Prosecco” and he would be round offering his “Sleigh of Prosecco” I don’t drink alcohol, and had driven my family down from Glasgow looking forward to a good meal and spending some quality time with my family but instead was offered “unlimited booze” for my trouble. At this point I walked out!
I’m still none the wiser as to what actually happened and why it all fell apart. I can only assume this is how Lochgreen is now run as there didn’t appear to be root cause of the problem. The owner/management team should be ashamed of themselves.
Bill Costley a man who has clearly made his millions and now doesn’t care about his hotels or the people who spend there hard earned money in them. You should be ashamed of yourself. And I for one will never be setting foot in one of your hotels...

The moment you approach Lochgreen, the elegant, sprawling grounds unfold like a scene from a timeless pastoral tableau. The country house, quaint and welcoming, stands as a symbol of a bygone era, inviting you into a world where every room unfolds a unique story.
The magic of Lochgreen lies not just in its visual allure but its remarkable culinary offerings. To say that the produce is of the highest quality would be an understatement. Every dish they serve, competitively priced yet generously portioned, sings of unparalleled freshness and exquisite taste. One can't help but marvel at their business acumen, managing to maintain such impressive standards while ensuring the experience remains accessible.
Their fine dining venue is nothing short of extraordinary, a stage where culinary artistry outshines many a Michelin-starred restaurant. The journey begins in the main dining room or drawing room with a selection of delectable canapés, setting the stage for the belt-loosening feast that follows.
Lochgreen holds a special place in my heart, carrying a legacy of over 30+ years of familial visits, each echoing with nostalgia and warmth. Admittedly, the recent visits have wavered slightly from the usual gold standard, but one hopes it's a temporary blip rather than a sign of a downtrend.
Looking ahead, I earnestly wish that Lochgreen continues to charm patrons for many more decades. The memories it holds for me and countless others are invaluable, woven into the fabric of our lives. Here's to Lochgreen – a testament to the art of fine dining, the joy of togetherness, and the beauty of...
Read moreWe take customers here every year to go to Ayr Races, staying 2 nights. Last year we had a fabulous room, so if I were writing this review after last year, it would be 5 stars. Our room was on the lower level, along past the restaurant and in the right h s corner. There was a beautiful tub and lots of space for hanging our clothes and a tv we could easily see from the bed. This year's visit (just this past weekend) , we got Room 2. (Lord Lovatt). The bed was tiny and a real disappointment to sleep in. Couldn't really see the tv from the bed, we had an old wardrobe with a few stiff drawers and a dressing table covered with stuff I could hardly get my toiletries on. The bathroom had a minute shower cubicle that will give a toddler claustrophobia and the bathtub's hot tap was broken. It literally fell off in our hands - pretty important to have the tub's taps working if the shower is so dire. No shelving in the bathroom for all that a woman carries with her and a poorly lit small dresser to do hair and make up. Struggled to find a plug portal for a phone charger. Best part were the windows...for some reason, hoteliers think they have to put the heating up to tropical setting so that everyone is roasting hot (and the Loch Green is no different), so we always have to open windows, and they have done a nice job of putting new windows in that are in style with the hotel. Yes, the grounds are lovely but it matters to me what is INSIDE an hotel, as well as out. The breakfast is amazing with a smorgasbord of Scottish fayre - as healthy or heart damaging as you want it. Beautifully clean kitchens (can see in the doors) and restaurants, with very friendly, attentive staff. But fix that tap! The next guest will need the tub if they want a 'neck-downer' instead of the whisper of water that comes out of your (overhead) shower cubicle that's smaller than...
