I recently had the pleasure of hosting my wedding at Maes Manor Hotel in Blackwood on Sunday, 9th June 2024, and I cannot express enough how amazing the experience was. From the moment we started planning, Odett, our wedding coordinator, was an absolute superstar. She handled any issues that arose with promptness and efficiency, ensuring that our special day went as smoothly as possible. The food at Maes Manor Hotel was absolutely delicious. Although I unfortunately didn't get the chance to try the hog roast in the evening as I was still stuffed from the amazing mains, I heard nothing but rave reviews from our guests. One of the standout features of Maes Manor Hotel is its breathtaking grounds. They provided the perfect backdrop for our photographers and videographers, resulting in stunning pictures and videos that we will cherish forever. Another highlight of our wedding experience was staying at the hotel with our bridal party the evening before. This allowed us to relax and enjoy the festivities without any morning stress of rushing to get ready. It truly made the entire experience feel less pressurising and more enjoyable. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Odett and Mike for making our special day truly unforgettable. Your dedication and attention to detail were evident in every aspect of the wedding. We are already looking forward to revisiting Maes Manor Hotel for future events. In conclusion, I cannot thank Maes Manor Hotel enough for providing us with such a beautiful day. The exceptional service, delicious food, stunning grounds, and overall experience exceeded our expectations. Mr. & Mrs. Davies will forever cherish the memories made at Maes Manor Hotel.

Greeted by a lovely pregnant lady on reception, sadly, she swapped shift, and we had to deal with a moody staff member; extremely unhelpful, and we felt we were inconveniencing her paying for our breakfast! Otherwise, what a lovely place! Beautifully decorated for Christmas and other staff who were about were lovely, especially Saturday nights bar staff, bless them, they had no glasses available due to the ABBA tribute night and were rushed off their feet. Rooms were nice. My sister wasn't sure about cleanliness. She slept on top of the quilt as she saw hairs in the bed, but I was happy. Breakfast was OK. Not just me, but all other guests I over heard, mentioned wanting either a jug of water and a bit of jam as an option. I'd like to suggest management sit and have breakfast and listen to what your customers are asking for or quietly moaning about. I'd stay again, but it won't be my first choice.

Freezing filthy rooms - avoid this place Stayed overnight while attending a Christmas event. Totally disgusting rooms! Initially given room 12 but this had an open window, which resulted in saturated beds (the night of the recent storm) Moved to room 24 (Upgraded for £10) what a joke. absolutely filthy room. Cheap ripped pillows - filthy carpets, but worst of all FREEZING COLD. No heating, no option for additional heaters. Windows were broken with huge gaps. NO curtains just a filthy blind that doesn't fit. AVOID THIS HOTEL at all costs. Mike Yarnold, General Manager? Well, he's non-existent too. Best to contact Baljit Jaswal, Flaxen Group Ltd, who own the place with any complaints

I would not recommend this hotel at all. I’m not one to name and shame but I have kept quiet for a bit too long with this one. I am absolutely disgusted with the way we have been treated by the Maes Manor Hotel. During the build up to our day, during our wedding day and afterwards. The management are totally unprofessional and I am gutted that we chose to get married here. Due to covid we had to change our date. Not anyone’s fault but stressful when so much had already been arranged. When we decided to get married there a lovely wedding coordinator called Becca worked there. Every meeting we had with her filled us with excitement but sadly she left. After that there was no person dedicated as the wedding coordinator but the manager himself doing it, whilst doing many other things, and many other things more important. When we had meetings with him he made us feel like we were an inconvenience and has even sighed at us on more than one occasion. Having already paid a large deposit we knew we wouldn’t unfortunately be able to go elsewhere. When we finally had the date coming up we were put back into lockdown two days before and this was obviously a very stressful time as we weren’t sure if we were able to get married at all. Thankfully my husband was able to get hold of the registrar and they were absolutely lovely and said they were still more than happy to marry us as long as the hotel would open for us. My husband spoke to the manager and he reluctantly agreed but we were only allowed the ceremony and then photos outside, where originally we were having the wedding breakfast with our guests, drink package etc just not the DJ as we knew we weren’t allowed. We were relieved that we could get married because we were fed up with putting our life on hold and just wanted to get married. On the day of the wedding we were obviously excited and I was relieved that my husband showed up! When my sister and I got there the manager was totally rude and could not wait to get my guests in so it could all be over and done with. He was hurrying people in and it was one big rush. I had to go in the other room to speak with the registrars prior to getting married (as we all have to) and the manager continued to be rude to our guests. My Dad sadly passed away three years ago and I had asked my brother in law to give me away which he felt proud to do and I was grateful. I had obviously already told the manager that this was happening and it was in the notes as this was a delicate situation for me. Whilst I was speaking with the registrars the manager shouted at my brother in law and said ‘I have told you already, get in there and sit down’. My brother in law was set back by this and quietly explained that he was giving me away but obviously at the time felt very frustrated that he had been spoken to in this manner. We had the ceremony and then we were shooed outside for photos and that was basically it. No congratulations, nothing. Just the door practically closed on our faces. Since then we have asked for a refund for the food and drinks that we have paid for and have had nothing back. This has been 4 months now. My husband has written to Hefin David and his secretary has said we should be more entitled to a refund as we did not receive this service. She has attempted to write to the manager on more than one occasion and has heard nothing back. My husband has queried the refund on their page and has now been blocked as a result! I am absolutely disgusted with the managers behaviour, totally unprofessional. Here is evidence that we should be entitled to a refund but it’s become more clear that we will not be getting one. I don’t want to think of my wedding day as stressful with rude staff involved, I just wish we had got married somewhere else and be made to feel special even if was for less than an hour. Because we have tried to contact the hotel as a result we have now been banned from the Facebook page. Absolutely...

We've stayed here a few times, its a lovely setting in a period property, and whilst the young staff really did all they could to offer excellent service so I have no complaints about them, unfortunately, the hotel seems to be in need of some serious maintenance.

The rooms have been decorated to a good standard, but everything now is tired to say the least. The rooms need a good dust, and it's obvious that there have been some damp problems, which, whilst now not an issue, the effects are clear. Rotted windows and signs of damp in bathroom cabinets etc. However, all bedding and towels fresh and clean. I also found the freestanding taps for the tub bath moved about 45 degrees back and forth, and the mirror on the dressing table fell on my foot when I tried to adjust the angle as the brackets weren't attached. There were also marks on the walls as if something had been spilt, and mirrors had marks on them as if they needed a good clean.

The evening meal offered good choice, but the soup was more like a paste although tasted lovely, and the prawn cocktail looked like it had come out of a tub and dumped on the plate with a few leaves of salad. The salmon was cooked to perfection, but the so called Hollandaise sauce was more like single cream, definitely not a Hollandaise.

In the morning we were looking forward to the hot buffet cooked breakfast as promised on website. The hot buffet area was covered with a tablecloth. The toast area was a bread bin with cheap supermarket bread, still in the plastic bags. The pasties weren't laud out, but I asked and was told they would be brought to the table. After waiting some time, a plate of hot pastries far too large for one person was delivered. Some clearly shop bought had been freshly heated, and the croissants were of the type you buy in a supermarket as ready rolled dough in cannisters. Unfortunately, these were raw in the middle. Another member of the party ordered smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. A very large and long plate arrived, the type buffet sandwiches are usually served on. The eggs were lovely but far too much, and the vast amount of salmon was thick and chunky and had grey fatty "underskin" on. Not like any smoked salmon I've ever seen.

We will more than likely try staying here one more time, in the hope that things return to the high standard of previous stays. It really is a lovely building in a great setting, but clearly, things need to change to get back to where they were.

I just want to say once again, that all of the very young staff really did their best and were very polite and...

First time visiting here to attend my nephews wedding back in September, and must say the last time I ever visit there! My disabled brother had a fall down the stairs early in the evening after popping to his room, and not one of the staff rushed over to help or see if he was ok! When I approached the desk asking for a first aider or help, they told us there was no one there who could do anything. The manager was seriously rude and told us if it wasn't an open wound, then there was nothing they could do.... I mean Seriously! What kind of place is this??? We also asked for a coffee for my brother who was in some discomfort at this time, only to be told we had to pay for it! We sadly ended up having to leave my nephews wedding early to rush my brother to hospital due to him being in so much pain and discomfort. My other brother then had to physically carry him out to the car where I was waiting to take him. And again, no staff offered any help whatsoever)! Anyway, it turned out he had seriously broken his foot which might yet need surgery!... The venue didn't even offer a refund for the rooms originally booked... Absolutely ruined what should have been a very special occasion. Shocking management! If you're ever thinking of booking here for a wedding or stay, I'd seriously consider elsewhere. The management was so unprofessional and rude, and should be ashamed of the service they provided that night... Room for improvements would be an understatement! Seriously considering suing the place!

Just read your reply stating this review is fabricated! What an absolute cheek and lie on your side! Why would I need to fabricate this???? Absolutely disgusting comment which reflects your professionalism!

You offered no help whatsoever and did not offer to call emergency services. You were very rude, unprofessional, and for the time my brother was there and visibly in pain and discomfort, not one staff member came and asked if he was ok, or if there was anything they could do. Your reply puts the icing on the cake for how unprofessional you are running what could be a wonderful facility. In fact, the only persons fabricating a story is yourselves trying to save grace. PEOPLE JUST NEED TO READ OTHER REVIEWS, AS THIS IS NOT THE ONLY BAD REVIEW. I for one will avoid and never return! And as for the so called refund you issued for 3 rooms, I find that STRANGE, as only 2 rooms were booked and no refund was offered nor issued (at least not to my parents and disabled brother anyway)!

NOT...
