An absolutely wonderful 5 days spent at Mickle Trafford Manor during May 2025. Our party of 8 adults (4 mature couples) hired the venue for an annual gathering of friends, now scattered throughout the UK and France, and which included a Murder Mystery Dinner with a locally hired chef & waiter from "The Catering Cottage", who provided a first-class three-course meal in situ, with pre dinner Canapés.|The character-rich Manor, dating back to 1565, is the perfect venue. Five individual and nicely decorated double bedrooms, with large comfortable beds, good quality bedding and towels, and all with modern ensuite bath and/or shower rooms. |The house was very nicely presented with fresh flowers, welcoming goodies, and spotlessly clean.|Owner Sam has furnished the house with some interesting and quirky memorabilia throughout, including vintage books and magazines which most people will recognise from their childhood, or their Granny's house! |The modern kitchen/dining area is spacious and sociable and there are well- equipped cooking/dining facilities inside and out.|The comfortable large lounge, plus two more lounge/sitting rooms, provided plenty of space for relaxing and chatting together.|The garden/games rooms were an added bonus; perfect for entertainment and fun competitions. |The Manor's facilities are well thought out and having a wonderfully warm large hot tub in the garden was another delightful bonus. The tub was well-used by our group, as was the covered outdoor seating area. We didn't use the sauna or the large gas BBQ, but likewise, they are good features to have available.|The large enclosed garden is pretty and peaceful, and the lawn is the perfect size for garden games. We played croquet, petanque and archery.|There is some road noise from the A56 traffic at peak times, but it is not intrusive enough to spoil the property's relaxing ambiance.|There are two very nice pubs nearby; we ate at The Chester Fields with its very pleasant garden area, and Chester is easily accessible. |Owner Sam and her father are perfect hosts; attentive but not intrusive, and very helpful and cooperative.|We could not have been more pleased with this lovely venue.|Our group gives the property 5 stars plus, and we will be most certainly be booking again...
Read moreWe have just had the most fantastic pre Xmas and birthday celebration weekend at the Manor. The Manor has the wow factor. It’s got it’s own unique ambience from the moment you enter with a welcoming flamed gas fire in the large entrance hall. So many places to sit and relax or have fun and games with the family. The gardens even in a winter setting are wonderful. We had snow too to make it a real Christmassy experience. We also had a terrific storm which lifted the top of the hot tub off as if it was a leaf! The water all had to be emptied and changed but that was done very efficiently the next day. The sauna is a really good size and the games room is superb especially for teenagers. There is a toilet and shower in the games/sauna room. Many laughs were had in the hot tub under a starry sky! Sam was a wonderful help when we experienced not one but two power cuts. She came with a basket of candles and torches. Nothing is too much trouble for her and it was nice to know there was such great backup with the extreme weather we were experiencing. The bedrooms are all en-suite and all have the wow factor. The beds are huge and so comfortable. We all slept so well. The Manor is so close to Chester if you want to walk the walls or enjoy retail therapy. If you want to stay somewhere that has real character and comfort then book the Manor. I’ve just rebooked for...
Read moreWe had a fabulous family holiday here at May half term. The house is large and rooms are generous. The various reception areas meant you could be busy with family or find a quiet spot for some down time. We didn’t use all of the bedrooms but the ones we did use were reported to be comfortable and everyone settled in quickly. ||||I think the highlight for our stay was the garden and games room. We enjoyed all aspects, whether playing piano, air hockey or pool. Or enjoying the garden and hot tub. We had some good weather which drew us outside too.||||The kitchen is large and the range cooker is easy enough to use to put out meals for families.||||Things that you might want to consider: there isn’t a downstairs bathroom or bedroom in the main house. I mention this as one of our party had two knee operations from booking pre Covid to holidaying 2 years later, and it caused them some issues to be up and downstairs. There is a bathroom in the games room though.||||The location is great, the village is close to a cycle path and has a tennis club too. There are two pubs at the end of the village. It’s literally minutes into Chester and we went to the cinema at broughton when the weather...
