I've had the opportunity to stay at the Premier Inn Aberdeen South (Portlethen) hotel on numerous occasions over the past 20 years, and my experiences have generally been positive. The location is convenient and the staff are consistently friendly and accommodating, adding a personal touch that enhances the overall stay. The rooms, while not luxurious, are comfortable and sufficiently equipped for a pleasant stay.
However, on a recent visit, I faced an issue that considerably impacted the convenience of my stay. The hotel has stopped accepting Maestro debit cards, a popular payment method in many countries. This change caused significant inconvenience as it prevented the easy purchase of food and drinks at the hotel bar, and created additional tasks such as withdrawing pounds from the bank in order to work with cash.
From a business perspective, this lack of payment flexibility is not practical. We tried different cards from various banks including ING, Rabobank, and ABN Amro, all of which were unfortunately rejected. This is an aspect that the management should reconsider, as it can have a significant impact on the overall guest experience.
Despite my long history with this location, this development may unfortunately influence our future booking decisions. While I understand that businesses must make various choices for a variety of reasons, it is still a regrettable change that may push us to book rooms in central Aberdeen instead.
I hope that the management will take this feedback into consideration to continue improving their service. We value our relationship with the Premier Inn Aberdeen South (Portlethen) hotel, and we hope to see this issue resolved for the convenience of both current and...
Read moreLovely hotel conveniently located I Portlethen area. Staff are super friendly and courteous and if you are able abodied I would highly recommend it. Why only 2 stars I hear you ask? Accessible rooms are most definitely not! There is only 1 wet room in the whole complex and despite booking and paying 5weeks in advance and explaining my elderly Mother's limited mobility in a follow up call...we didn't get it. Nevertheless we persevered until it came to the morning. There was no hot water and the shower head (which when fully extended was only 2feet high )was broken so there was zero pressure to wash with. The result? 20mins of some contorting on my 88year old Mum's part, lifting on mine getting soaked from side spray, we gave up and resorted to just a top and tail sink wash - not ideal. I complained at reception and they promised to get it checked whilst we were out. When I returned in the evening, reception staff confirmed that the water heater appeared to be on standby but this had been rebooted which should resolve the temperature issue. As for the shower head there were no spares so nothing could be done as they were fully booked. Staff suggested taking a bath instead however as I pointed out, there was no hoist to assist getting in and out. I took a video to help convey my inconvenience and displeasure when I put in my complaint to head office. To be clear staff interaction, location all great but all their horrid purportedly accessible low baths should be ripped out and wet rooms installed instead.. you have been warned if this is an...
Read moreWouldn’t stay again. Hotel clearly caters for local businesses with the car park full of white vans which started up and left early in morning waking us up. Receptionist seemed content this was the case. Breakfast was a disappointment. Paid £9.99 for full buffet. Unfortunately half of the breakfast was missing. Dirty plates, no cups, teapots, bread, milk or pastries. When I questioned this with the breakfast lady was told I was being unreasonable as she was on her own and besides there wouldn’t be any pastries today. Inn promised a refund. Lock to front door in the annex building didn’t work properly meaning door was often open leading to security issues. The same pieces of litter inside the door was there for 3 days. Overall , if you’re looking for a restful stress free hotel the Premier Inn Portlethen is not for you as they’re catering for someone else and seem content with that. Only wish they would highlight that on their website. Overall disappointing as I usually like Premier Inn but will think twice about the chain in future due to...
