Amazing and attentive staff. A warm and very friendly atmosphere.
Kris and Michelle are great at their job and are genuinely very nice friendly people.
But the food. Oh my goodness. Not all of it is bad. Most of it is not bad.
But tonight I just had and paid for one of the worst meals of my life. It was the potato and bacon mozzarella starter.
I ate it because I was really cold and wanted something hot that wasn't too pricy or filling. It is a generous amount they give you but it looked and tasted awful. It cost me £4.75 I think.
The potatoes weren't fresh. They were reheated and greasy- old and brown looking. The dip that came with it was watery and tasteless and the potatoes were all congealed together.
I took a photo of it.
The photo actually looks ok as my phones camera is amazing. Samsung galaxy s8.
But hand on heart I am speaking true.
I did tell the manager and he said next time I'm here it will be better.
I have pretty high standards of food because I am used to cooking from scratch and also whenever I do go out to eat in Aberdeen the places I go- even places like Pizza Express that aren't particularly fancy are of high quality.
Am I snob? Absolutely not. I'm the opposite.
But I do believe that there needs to be a certain standard that a chef and restaurant must meet before they can start charging people money.
My philosophy is why should I pay for something that isnt of a quality that i could make myself?
If my folks ordered this they would have sent it back straight away.
My advice- If you order food here, opt for something fresh. Something like a salad or steak or eggs. That can't be reheated or defrosted and microwaved again.
The ice cream sundaes and salads are great and the costa coffee machine (when it's working) is awesome cos you can have as many refills as you want for free. Herbal teas included!
The prices are very reasonable for most part.
The staff are awesome.
Hope this...
Read moreThe staff at this establishment are in desperate need of the company support and further training. Or possibly the restaurant should limit what they serve. Our experience was awful. We arrived at 8:30pm and ordered within 10 minutes of being seated. We over heard the table next to us complaining they were still waiting for starters. Our starters arrived and they were edible except I'm not really sure that a load of salad thrown in a bowl constitutes as salsa. We had asked for our 3 year old to receive his food at the same time - no such luck. By this time the other table has their main courses minus 1. The manager came and took our starter plates and asked if we wanted any tea/coffee or dessert........we asked if we could maybe have our main course and the 3 year olds meal. As he left our table the other table were well into the main meals with 1 person still not been fed. Our main meals arrived at the same time as the opposite table. Pink chicked, solid steak , a brick of stuffing. Still no food for our 3 y/o. Eventually it arrived but by this time we were too tired of waiting and the 3 yo was getting restless so we barely ate and left. Give the manager his due he volunteered a refund and was very apologetic but quite simply seemed under immense pressure and could probably use a bit of support. This restaurant is always very busy with the hotel being attached and they don't really seem to have the training or equipment to deal with it. We will not...
Read moreAfter a very tough week for the family I thought it would be nice to get out for a lunch and take everyone's minds off things for a while, we sat in the bar area where there was one other couple finishing drinks where it was nice and peaceful, restaurant didn't seem overly busy which was good. Ordering food at bar was pleasant and hassle free however that's where the positives end, nobody likes to wait forever on their food however it's also a major worry when it's arriving not long after you having the first sip of your drink and the temperature of the food made it absolutely obvious this wasn't freshly cooked to order. Two upgrade mixed grills arrived with every piece of meat barely lukewarm, undercooked greasy chips and onion rings and eggs that would have bounced if they slipped off the plate, poor attention to detail that one was missing gammon steak that appeared on the returned plate after less than a minute later, mash with the steak pie option was a cold congealed lump and the chips with the scampi were again undercooked and greasy, all very obvious signs not freshly prepared, since nobody came to check how our meal was and having had such a tiring stressful week we ate and left, on this experience I think in future we will stick to going out usual eatery at altens, a change obviously isn't always a good option and better the...
