I've been staying here for several weeks recently because I've been working in the area. It's an older building, not like the modern, purpose built, apartment block type Premier Inns. The rooms are typical older Premier Inn. I found the building, and the rooms, were cleaned to a higher standard than some other Premier Inn rooms I have stayed in. All of the staff are very friendly and very helpful. There's a railway line to the rear of the building, trains are infrequent, and after a short time, you don't even notice them. For one of my visits, I was allocated a room at the front; there's a fairly busy road to the front, and a traffic light-controlled junction. I did find the road to be quite noisy at times. I did mention this and was offered a room at the back, which was no trouble for the staff and greatly appreciated. On another visit, I was allocated a room at the top of the stairs, I found this particular room to be noisy because some guests seemed to be unable to climb stairs quietly. I was constantly being disturbed by people stomping up and down the stairs. Occasionally, somebody would open the door at the top of the landing so wide it would bang on the bedroom wall; it didn't help that the headboard of the bed is directly on the other side of the landing. There is plenty of free parking at the front, and at the back of the hotel. The pub just across the car park is very good, it's a 'Table Table', which I hadn't heard of before, the menu is identical to the Brewers Fayre menu, so I would think it's part of the same chain. I took a walk into the town centre a few times, it's about a 30-minute walk. Decent shopping precinct and a few retail parks there. There's also a nice walk alongside the river just around the corner. I didn't find any nearby shops that you could just pop out to quickly. There’s a large sports field opposite if you needed a bit of open space. I found the hotel ideally situated for Cardiff, Newport, Pontypool, Abergavenny etc. as well as the M4 corridor and the A40. Nothing much else to say really, I think one Premier Inn is much the same as another. It’s very comfortable here and the staff are especially friendly and helpful, which does make a difference. If only the boy racers using the road outside would turn their music down while waiting at the traffic lights, and other guests were more considerate to others, I wouldn’t be able to find anything to...
Read moreOk. Typical Premier Inn. Not one of their best that we've stayed in. Room draughty somehow despite self control of heating system. Road noise evident, poor double glazing window. Bathroom/Room smelt unpleasant on initial entry. Odour disappeared after blower on heating was turned off. Fan in bathroom noisy so on investing turned out it was covered in dust etc on the inside, looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months or longer even. Cooked Breakfast was okish. Bread was stale before going into the toaster!. Not a great choice if you wanted a "Continental breakfast". No cold meats, cheeses etc. Dry catering croissants and "pain a chocolate" We will be writing to PI head office with our findings
Having spoken to head office it turns out that "Noise" is one of their exemptions from complaints, also complaints about the food is nothing to do with PI. This is wrong in my opinion as you pay PI for the breakfast, they book your table, and they advertise the food in flyers in the room- most...

Pros: The bed is comfortable. There is adequate space. There is not much noise from the nearby roads. More than a sufficient number of plug sockets.
Cons: Shower water pressure. Television size. If you're on the ground floor, you can hear people walking above you quite clearly. No lift/elevator access to the upper floor. The hairdryer. The provided shampoo.
