Appalling across the board. It was a rubbish New Year’s eve & 2-day stay & I would never go there again, ever. In fact I wouldn’t stay at a Premier Inn again. First of all we found a used large towel in the bathroom on arrival, yuck! So clearly attention to detail isn’t a strong point & it makes you feel uncomfy with actually staying there. We had to ask several times for a hand towel as there was only one for 2 people, it finally came about 10 at night delivered by the receptionist. The same woman who decided to test the fire alarm in the evening without informing anyone it was going to happen. I wasn’t the only one who responded by going to reception, several people had actually been woken up! The extractor fan in the bathroom was broken, which meant that foul air from essential human use hung around in the bathroom for far too long, seeping into the main room! Yuk again. I asked the receptionist for some sort of air freshener which she said wasn’t used - something to do with COSSH I assume - or expense - anyway she said she’d do something after I’d had to spell out exactly what the problem was - this was embarrassing- and eventually at 10 at night she squirted something down the lav - whilst delivering hand towels - after I’d had asked the manager. OMG! We discovered at 4pm in the afternoon, after a 2-hr drive to get there, that the pub/restaurant was closed, and only opened for breakfast & dinner. Apart from anything else this is seriously underusing the facility - imo, it should be running like a Wetherspoons & pulling in local punters & people who want a drive out in the Dales & a lunch or dinner out as well as providing a nice place for hotel clients to sit, relax & enjoy. It’s a pretty pub that I’m assuming was busy & welcoming at one time. The food was truly shocking & the staff were lazy & seemingly unaware of what constitutes customer service, let alone caring enough to make it good. I witnessed one poor client who’d asked for toilet paper as there wasn’t any in the Ladies being told “no, sorry we don’t have the keys to the store cupboard”, at this point I intervened & asked the other member of staff for loo roll - somehow or another he made this happen & appeared 5 mins later with some. I had to ask for vinegar for my undercooked, cold chips too as they’d failed to ensure the condiments station had been replenished. Just substandard. There were problems with some staff being unable to get to work due to flooding on New Year’s Day but the entire hotel chain is understaffed anyway, this seems terribly unfair on staff & can only result in shoddy service. As it happened there was very little breakfast on New Year’s Day as the chef had been unable to get in, & on top of this we then we had to ask for knives as cutlery hadn’t been replenished!!! On & on! The manager needs to be checking cleanliness & ensuring a high standard of customer service, he was pleasant but this is far from the point. I’ve stayed in Premier Inns before & have been content. I know it’s a budget chain but we actually work hard for our money & feel like the attitude of the executives is “let’s run our hotels as cheaply as we can to increase profit margins, the cheapskates that stay in our hotels don’t deserve good customer service anyway, & besides who cares!” What an awful attitude. But why should they care as the hotel was full to capacity? People wanting to treat themselves & have some enjoyment. I’d seriously look at getting advice from whoever it is who started Wetherspoons - this is a great business model that would be good for this hotel chain to use. Shameful waste of a beautiful pub in a gorgeous location & a...

Read moreHow did you do. In a nut shell - Badly. In fairness the visible staff were doing all they could to provide the best service they could under the circumstances in which they found themselves. Clearly staffing was insufficient, public areas stripped back to minimum in terms of facilities, are we supposed to feel sorry for the manager? - We did. It was stated at the time of booking the the hotel was undergoing refurbishment, there was however no visible sign of any works in progress. We spent three days in the hotel and watched the friendly welcoming beleaguered staff doing their under staffed best to cope with the numbers of guests.
This property is seedy and dirty and visually unwelcoming. Its exterior peeling paintwork and overall shabby facades presents as a neglected property the life of which like abused overworked horse has been drained from it. There should be no excuse for example: Disabled parking bays littered with cigarette butt's and leaf fall, not only do you collect the butt's on footwear but surely also a potential fire hazard. Brush and shovel required at the very least.
Internally it is dirty and unsanitary, peeling window frames with visible black mould, bathroom fan sounding reminiscent of cousin David's old tractor. Curtain rails Totally unsuitable for the weight of blackout curtains which fall down at the drop of a hat. The clearly visible redundant net Curtain Pole seated at an obtuse angle.
We are frequent P Inn users and some are better than others but in the main overall standards are good but this hotel located in a beautiful location is a let down. The bit that jars the most is we could have stayed at P Inn in York, New hotel, same period, same money, more facilities. How can you justify the disparity in facilities with value for money considering the state of P...
