Sadly, we recently selected this hotel to stay on our little getaway. We were booked for two nights but on the first night had a cantankerous old lady be incredibly rude to us. We had to refuse to move until she called the manager (her name is Lisa, who is absolutely incredible and lovely - only speak with her!). Upon changing to the Premier Inn in Newquay (much, much better and only 30 minutes from St. Austell, however there are many other wonderful hotels that are even better and manage to bring in some actual personality and lose that foreboding and ever-present corporate genericized nature of a Premier Inn) for our second night, we made our complaint online to Premier Inn regarding the disgusting behavior of the receptionist at St. Austell. The generic response we received was completely irrelevant, impersonal and ignored the entire point of the complaint and focused entirely on NOT giving refunds. So, happily, I will not be having it and will be continuing the complaint for as long as takes to get a human to respond, purely on principle.
I'd like to add - for the sake of making this negative review more relevant to people whom will actually be visiting this dated and antiquated establishment; there were holes in the walls where an old canvass had fallen off and not been replaced, there was mold on the bathroom grating and the shower soap dispenser had absolutely no soap in it. If you are expecting air-con, there isn't any. If you're expecting air to at least be able to come out of the vents using the thermometer and 'how to' sheet provided, it doesn't work. If you would like to open the window to allow some sort of oxygen to enter the room, you can't. If however, you are satisfied with the provision of a fan that is more than capable of blowing around this super-heated air, then great news! There IS one. And Premier Inn will state that this is adequate. Demolishing the hotel and starting again would be my suggestion, but what do we know. We're just the oiks that have to stay there and be grateful.
Word of advise -...
Read moreI stayed here for the night during October. I stayed here to visit the Eden Project. I was pleasantly surprised to see how busy the hotel was on a Thursday evening! Happy to see people visiting places again. The staff were the highlight of my stay. They really made my experience enjoyable. Nothing was ever too much for them and answered any questions I had. The young lady with red hair at the reception really blew me away with her friendliness. Wish I took her name so I could write a good review directly to Premier Inn! If possible - try and ask for a room with a view of the sea!
The room was clean but a bit dated. I understand that this is the old style room and from what I can see - some rooms are renovated to the new style but I didn’t stay in one of those rooms on this occasion. The heating cuts off after it reaches a certain temperature which I found annoying as I like the room to be extra toasty! The bed was comfortable and the linen was clean. The lights weren’t as bright as I would have liked but it wasn’t a major problem.
It is easy to find off the A30 and there is a decent amount of parking which is free however we quickly realized it gets busy quick so try not to turn up late in the evening. It’s only a 7 minute drive to the Eden Project and is close to Charlestown (do visit as it’s a beautiful harbour village)
The breakfast was delicious. I had a full English. The waitress was extremely friendly and the restaurant followed strict COVID-19 guidance making us feel safe.
Overall, I would stay here again if I was going to visit the Eden...
