Had to delete an old good review to write this sadly. We went to the Carclaze for breakfast today and we really really wish we hadn't. We walked in and waited for our table. Was asked to pre-pay which was fine (we thought) but there was no mention that half the food was missing!!! The manager served us and asked if we had a loyalty card which my partner produced on her phone. He seemed irritated and said he didn't have the equipment to scan it from a phone to which the young female bartender kindly told him how to do it manually. He then moaned that he was too busy to type the number in so we just told him not to worry about it as he seemed extremely stressed out! So we pay and go to find a table only to find they were all dirty so we began to clear one ourselves, the young bartender from before came over, smiled, apologised and took over for us, honestly she should be running the place as she was very kind and not at all fazed by the absolute chaos going on around her. I then went to get the drinks and found the milk and apple juice had run out which is fine, things run out so I went to the bar and informed the manager who once again sighed, looked annoyed that I'd dare bother him, pointed out they were extremely busy and he'd sort it when he could!!! To be fair he did actually then sort this out pretty quickly. We then went to get food and OMG there was nothing there hardly!!! I sorted my Dad and his friend out with there half a breakfast which was missing several items that weren't available (the chef told me not to bother waiting for them as they wouldn't be coming out anytime soon!!!) then I went back for mine. My partner got hers but took the last egg so I jumped out of the queue and joined the back hoping they'd restock. At this time another customer who was ahead of me in the queue complained about the lack of food and pointed out that getting us to prepay felt like a trap as we couldn't just walk out when we realised there was so much missing. The manager seemed annoyed with this customer, bordering on aggressive. I wanted to make my own complaint to him at this point but felt too intimidated to do it after the way he spoke to the other gentleman. I got to the front of the queue again and they had put out the eggs but the other items were still missing. There was a young man stood at the end of the table patiently waiting for scrambled eggs to come out (he waited a long time, I hope he got them in the end) and he told me the manager had let in a group of 14 people who hadn't booked which was what had caused all the hassle. Anytime we have tried to go without booking first we have been turned away (and rightly so) so it seems the manager bought all this stress on himself by allowing them in!!! So I gave up and took what I could and went and ate my half a breakfast. At this point I hear a commotion at the bar and see the gentleman from earlier asking for his money back as they hadn't got what they paid for. Once again this seemed to get the mangers back up and he started to raise his voice to the gentleman and his family (which included children), the man became a little frustrated with the way the manager was speaking to him and at this point the manager rather than trying to resolve the customers legitimate complaint told him to leave the building and threatened to call the police!!!!! If this is the way he talks to customers I'd absolutely hate to think how he talks to the staff, maybe you need to talk to some of them quietly as this guy has a screw loose!!! Again I wanted to complain but my girlfriend and Dad were afraid it would cause a scene because of how this manager was reacting...
Read moreWent here this afternoon for a 'carvery' as the other place we originally planned to go to was so busy we couldn't even get into the car park. I've had a few friends over the years mention this place so thought we would give it ago. It took a good few minutes for any of the staff to even acknowledge us, we ordered one beer, one coke and two j2o's as well as 4 'carveries' which came to a total of £51 which is quite high in comparison to other establishments in the local area. We struggled to find a table as most of them still had glasses and plates from previous customers which still hadn't been cleared by the time we left. We got told it would be a 20 minute wait for our food but ended up being 35 mins. I know a carvery as you pick your meat and get given a portion of that but then free will to pick whatever else you want which works out well for us with two fussy kids but this 'carvery' was pre-plated. Portion sizes were good however it was just an awful roast dinner. There was an option between beef, turkey and gammon. Turkey can be a risky one as not many people can cook it without drying it out and gammon can be quite salty so decided to opt for the beef. Unfortunately it was overcooked, dry and chewy, such parts actually crunchy too! Yorkshire pudding was cold and mushy, roast potatoes weren't terrible but nothing special, stuffing was stodgy and gammy in the mouth, carrots were unpeeled and quite hard as well as the peas, pig in blanket was tiny and salty with the smallest wisp of bacon attached, swede mash and parsnips were good though! They only put the gravy on the beef, non existent on the rest of the roast but no biggy as the gravy was flavourless and watery anyway. It was just a HUGE disappointment considering how expensive it was and waiting 35 minutes for it. None of us 4 enjoyed it. One of the previous reviews commented on how nice the cauliflower cheese was which is my favourite part of a roast but we didn't actually get any. I'm not a fussy eater at all and I never complain about places usually but this time I thought I would as I wouldnt want anyone else to waste their time and money. It would be ok if it was a decent roast but I swear it's no better than a frozen roast dinner micro meal. I was excited to eat out and not have to cook today but by the time we left I wish we had just stayed home and had a roast. I don't know if it is always like that or whether we just caught it on a bad day but either way we won't be...
