This is our third time staying at the River Edge Lodges - the previous times were pre-pandemic and the energy price rise. It's a pretty site and we were happy to return. ||We hadn't realised the Lodge was now hooked up to a one and two pound coin-operated meter for electricity use. This obviously added an extra expense we hadn't anticipated having paid the accommodation in advance. We discovered the meter when we were plunged into darkness late in the evening. Thankfully we have family nearby and they were able to bring us some coins. ||The Lodge is not double glazed, the heaters are wall-mounted vector types, (at least a decade old), and the water heater runs from electricity. The kettle was a very cheap and inefficient model which leaked the expensive-to-boil water. The weather turned cold during our stay, which meant the heating had to go on - and cost £1.00 per hour.||This additional cost made River Edge lodges an expensive stay, only limited by the fact that we could cook and relax at our family's home. ||On the plus side, the location is beautiful and within easy reach of Perth, which is a central location for exploring. The Lodge was clean, the bedding and towels fresh, and there were wild flowers...
Read moreEnjoyed a short break here and would highly recommend it. The lodge was spotlessly clean, which was good to see given the current circumstances. I had to make a slight improvement to the bedroom, in that there was no plug point anywhere near the mirror, which made it very difficult to dry hair. Easily rectified by turning the chest of drawers side on to give access to the plug point, which was behind it and directly below the mirror. Minor point though.||In general the grounds were very nice, and well laid out with a large play area for children. Ours was a small lodge, but there are larger ones (apparently two of them were used in the filming of Outlander). The owners also keep goats and hens in a pen. They like to be fed! Nice touch. ||I noted another review that spoke about this being a peaceful place. Not sure I would agree, as the motorway is within earshot, and the fairly busy road out of the village was just up behind the lodges. Don't let that put you off though - it didn't really bother us. ||Great central location though with lots of local walks and other places to drive/cycle to. Suitable for couples...
Read moreWe stayed for a week at this lovely place. I had not heard of it before but was so glad to stumble across it for a last minute break away. We stayed in a river edge lodge which was well equipped with a good kitchen, comfortable lounge and two bedrooms. Decent storage and there was a bath as well as a shower, very useful for small children. Outside the lodge the kids could play safely and enjoyed the wooden house with a slide attached plus they were very taken with the goats they could visit and feed! The lodges were a good base for us to visit other areas we love in Perthshire and also Fife and Tayside. We had a lovely day trip to Craigtoun Park near St Andrews. We also had two excellent takeaways from the Wok In. Would recommend! The owners are lovely here amd it was a very relaxed break. Would highly recommend it...
