Overall: fine campsite for tents, needs some refinements. Good points: nice flat pitches, lawn nicely kept with good quality grass. The owners clearly take pride in the appearance of the site. There is a small children's play area if required. There is a small portable unit near to the tents with toilets and showers. Bad points: tent pitches are furthest away from the general area with facilities, placing caravans closest to facilities which doesn't really make sense. The layout of the site means that any vehicles entering or leaving have to drive right past and around the tents area, causing disturbance. The portable shower/toilet unit is a nice touch, but unfortunately the lights are permanently on, and the windows locked open, causing them to be absolutely FULL of flying insects. There's a small shop and reception at the other end of the site, the open hours are very limited. They offer to take ice blocks to freeze for you, but they are out of bounds for general access - this means you can only get cold ice blocks once every 24 hours and the only time in our whole stay we could have actually used this facility was once right before we were about to leave. I don't see what's so bad about letting people use a freezer themselves. Generally I got the vibe that the owners are very regimented and not flexible enough to allow us to make the most of our stay. They offer WiFi and electricity in the facilities area, but the prices are extortionate. Also the site is quite close to a fast main road and there was some traffic noise. I am not sure this site deserves as much as 4 stars, but 3 stars would be unfairly harsh. I wouldn't return again as I prefer more flexibility and a laid back feel.

Lovely and quiet, plenty to do locally. Lots of nice walks around Slingsby and Fryton and the local pub (The Grapes) has really pulled out all the stops to allow outside eating and drinking too. The brand new serviced pitches are nice, the grass seed hadn't had the chance to take and so it was a challenge to keep everything on the hard standing but by the time anyone reads this the grass will have grown and the mud gone. Definitely recommended.

A lovely, peaceful place to stay. The toilets aren't that far but I can understand that they should be situated closer for the older gen and young children. I only took a star off because the bins were overflowing. Overall a great place and me and the family will definitely stay again in the future

The campsite is ok. We stayed the last August bank holiday in a non-electric tent plot. It's a little bit backwards, so you enter at the top and drive past all the tent area, the reception is quite far down into the site with all the toilets and washing area, which is far away from the tents, but near all the static caravans (which are all plumbed in so not sure why there isn't a shower block and washing area near the tent area?) The toilets have 3 or 4 sink areas with doors on, 3 or 4 toilets and 2 showers (roughly give or take for men and women's toilets), which there is a queue for the showers as not enough, so be prepared to wait. There isn't really enough showers to people at peak times which is frustratingly slow. There is a path down the wooded area from the tents section which cuts out following the longer wiggly road route. The internet signal with EE and O2 isn't great (unsure about other networks), there is WiFi but it is £2 for 1 hour... There is only one bin to serve quite a few tents, the first day we arrived it was empty and by the end of the first night it was overflowing, not great. There is drinking water out of hose taps too, which saves you a long walk. And there is a nice kids play area with swings and climbing frame and slides, but that is right at the top near the entrance. There is a shop with basic items which seemed reasonably priced for what we bought. Overall, it's ok, got everything you need but a bit back to front with the toilet and washing block. I think it's a good site, but tents were a bit of an after thought, much better...

We booked this a week before we arrived, thinking that we had never been to Yorkshire (cardinal sin, some might say!) we took our bikes and used it as a base to go exploring. The campsite was fantastic, the welcome we received was warming and welcoming, with lots of advice of what to do and where to go. It being the start of the school holidays we were expecting the campsite to be busier with families and children, when we arrived we were given a choice of fields to pitch in, we chose the top field, along with 5 other tents on site. that was on the saturday, on the monday there was only us and two other tents for the rest of the week, so peace and quiet was in abundance. The shower block was immaculate with plenty of water open 24/7 and like most campers we made friends with other campers using the wash up facilities. the owners were always on hand to help with advice or directions on where to go, even if it was out of hours and the shop was closed, your could always knock on the front door and greeted with a welcome and a smile. We hope to go back there again soon, and would definitely recommend it to anyone else thinking of...
