Poor experience. Upon arrival owner greeted us in bare feet & had forgotten to make a note of our booking so had no clue as to who we were. Found us a room called The Tool Shed. Upon entering, the door catches on the internal rug causing a trip hazard. Room not clean to any decent standard. Dust on surfaces & cobwebs visible all around the edges. Bed sheets looked as though someone had a one night stay. Not crisp & neat as you would expect in a fresh room. Bedside table unstable to place a hot drink on. TV fixed to the wall approx 2ft from the ceiling so had to lay down on the bed to watch, not very comfortable! Mattress not supportive. Pillows old & lumpy.
Empty bottle (presumably for water) & 2 glasses too big to get under the bathroom tap. Kettle dirty with old water in it also too big to fill under the tap so had to use mugs to fill.
Ensuite sink far too small to use for washing, only just big enough to wash your hands after using the loo. No shelf to place soap, toothbrush/paste etc. Under sink cupboard dirty inside & out. Toilet lid & seat hinge too tight so both lifted up together. Toilet roll holder hanging off the wall. No hooks on back of bathroom door, bracket was there but the hooks were missing. Worst of all, the electric shower temperature control knob had been fitted around the wrong way. The arrow turned to warm/hot gave a cold shower and vice a versa.
With all the fantastic meat/incredients in Yorkshire,Breakfast was mediocre. Bacon fried to an inch of its life then kept in a hot oven so was very brittle. Basic sausages, egg, mushrooms & tomatoe. Not very nice surroundings, cold open plan room off the family kitchen with family members walking around in there pyjamas.
Pity we were requested to pay when we arrived as I would not have paid the £65 + £8.40 for breakfast.
The owners need to take heed of the reviews & implement a cleaning programme. With small investment and some TLC this could be a great b&b. Not worthy of the 4* visit england...
Read moreWe stayed here on a Wowcher break and were really looking forward to our stay. The first thing we noticed was that the hot tub was in the grounds and not at all private, being overlooked by every room and for everyones use, which was disappointing as we had thought looking at the photo that it was private so we didnt use it as we had planned to. At the very least a screen around it would've been a bit of an improvement. We were informed upon arrival that we would be staying in one of the converted stable? rooms in the grounds. This was not what was advertised in the deal as it had lead us to believe we were staying in the windmill itself so it was very misleading and disappointing. However the manager mustve noticed the look of disappointment on my face and so said we could stay in the upstairs room which was built onto and adjoining the windmills original section. This was better than the first alternative and a nice room but we couldnt have a shower without the doors falling off and hitting us so that definitely needed sorting out. There was also a wasps nest at the bottom of the staircase which was a bit unnerving too.The manager was very welcoming however, and very nice. There was a mini bar in the old windmill reception area too, although we didnt use it.We also had a continental breakfast included with the price and though we had to wait around half an hour to get seated,we didnt really mind this.Ok for a cheap deal but glad we didnt pay more, and very disappointed that we werent staying in the original old windmill which really needs to be made clear on these deals as it is...
Read moreLiked: lovely grounds and not your bog standard bed and breakfast property with a nice friendy greeting upon arrival. Outdoor space with leafy surroundings has some tables and chairs placed in various spots to sit around which is a nice touch especially in decent weather, tucked well away from the main road and has a hedge lined walking/cycle path straight outside the proprty so those with dogs (like us) have no worry about getting them out to stretch their legs. There is a dog waste disposal bin just a few yards down from the entrance
Disliked: Unfortnunatly access with a coachbuilt Moho is tight, it's not necessarilly so within the property - there were other cars near the Moho bay we had, some presumably belonging to guests but im sure they could be shuffled to get the space needed to manouver if wanted, it was preferable for me to reverse into our bay when we arrived and did it ok with the help of the mirrors and the reversing cam, plus another eye at the back from the other half but once in its a lovely spot. The bigger issue is the access road through a little enclave of cottages. its ony a few meters long but it is lined with trees either side and they are currently overhanging quite low, anything bigger than a transit sized van converstion or a T5 might screech and scrape catching leaves and twiglets as they go (we did and we are 3m x 2.3m wide). My guess is that it is something the site owners don't have control over because its not on their land but it would be nice of they could do...
