We have been visiting here for a number of years on and off and honestly always had amazing food. We went today to celebrate our anniversary and sat in the bar area, service was excellent, the waitress was extremely polite and so friendly and honestly can't fault the food! My husband had beef madras and a side of chips and I had the small fish and chips. Lovely homemade chips!!! I did get mushy peas with my meal but gave them to my husband which is why they aren't on pic! Due to my restricted diet we don't go out to eat that often, its a rare treat, but this is somewhere I know I'll be ok as things I can pick off the menu that don't make me poorly and they take note when I ask for salt not to be sprinkled over food, which some establishments automatically add when you order fish and chips. Love seeing the dogs that come in, our dog a bit too big and fussy to bring unfortunately but lovely seeing all the dogs that come in, would definitely recommend the Fox Covert!!

Absolutely wonderful meal here 😋 There were three of us, myself and some friends visiting from Sheffield. They asked me to choose somewhere nice for a meal, so naturally I booked a table here. Mr G was a happy chappy with his pint of Old Peculiar! For mains we had the Chicken Jo Jo, and Mince and Dumplings. Both were lovely, home cooked, fresh and very yummy😋. Mrs G commented how nice it was to have a choice of fresh vegetables with chips rather than just a " few salad bits".... Also... THOSE CHIPS! Hand made, well browned and fluffy inside. Banging. Pudding. Well worth coming for the Biscoff Cheesecake alone! Overall, fantastic service, super friendly staff who were attentive; but not overbearing, great food and great value too. 1pint, 2 soft drinks, 3 mains and 3 desserts for less than £75!

Tuesday night about 19:00, we walked in and there were plenty of tables to choose from. Drinks were ordered from the table once we were seated and arrived 5 mins later. From the menu we chose veggie lasagna, chicken curry and a side of onion rings. This took around 25 mins to arrive and it looked home made perhaps with the exception of the chips. Both meals were good and I've never had a bad meal in this place. If I had one complaint it would be that there wasn't quite enough curry. We need science to devise the perfect curry to chips and rice ratio 😜 Staff were attentive and friendly, the bill for 4 pints of Moretti and two meals was £43. The pub is nice inside and out, plenty of flowers on display in the beer garden. Plenty of parking, Covid rules being followed too.

Been here for years on Christmas eve. This year most of the staff appeared to be in a mood. Ordering the starters we asked if we could order mains in 5 mins. She ripped the slip off her Ordering books as loud as she could and simply walked off and huffed "last food order is 8pm" before I could say its fine we will order now, she walked off. Great start. We ordered 6 meals, one being a veg lasagne and a beg Thai curry. My wife has been a vegetarian for over 20 years and myself for 5 years. The lasagne came with 1 meat lasagne and no one could tell us which was the vegetarian. They took them all away. Then may vegetarian Thai curry came. I started to eat it and about 4 mouthfuls in a big peice if chicken was in the meal. I poked around and found more. I had been given a chicken curry not a vegetarian. I stopped eating and waited for the staff to return. Then the lasagnes were brought back after about 5mins and we were told which were which. Not sure how they could tell, maybe the tops were lifted off? I then mentioned my curry was chicken instead of vegetarian, the waitresses was so rude, she didn't say or anything she just snatched it away? She came back after another 5 minutes and said"its because you didn't specify if I wanted chicken or vegetarian " Not only is this a complete lie, as the server asked my twice which one I wanted, but non apology or anything and she was just blaming me. I said that wasn't the case as I hadn't ate meat for 5 years and I knew I had asked for vegetarian! I asked if the lady who took the order was in and she said she had left. my son saw her down the bottom of the room. Still no apology and she disappeared again.another 5 minutes and she could do a curry but no rice as they had none. At this point I didn't really want it after been called a liar, no apologies just rude attitude. So I had no meal and shared my wife's. Everyone makes mistakes, a simple apology would have been fine, to lie be very rude and blame it on the customer is unacceptable. We won't be returning. It was a lot quieter than usual , maybe other customer have had the same treatment. Mostly new staff....

Can be very hit or miss but we won’t be rushing back!!

We phoned last min to book a table, they didn’t have any tables available and said to use the walk in service you’ll be fine. We managed to find a pretty poor table but it done the job, I ordered food at the bar and my parter changed the table for a better table, I hadn’t left the bar and asked if we were ok to change table. The barmaid/waiter said she’ll update on the system but didn’t look best pleased, not entirely sure if the barmaid was a he or she but I’m going to go with she with really short hair.

When I sat back at the table the total bill looked really expensive compared to normal but wasn’t broken down, I went to the bar and requested to speak to the same barmaid but and again she wasn’t happy and passed a comment to her colleague. Barmaid said I had been charged for an extra meal, the barmaid requested the manager to give a refund for the extra charge but no apology was giving.

When the food arrived the same barmaid/waiter with short hair tried to deliver our food to the previous table we were sat and my parter called the barmaid over, the barmaid said “this is what happens when you jump tables and now the kitchen don’t know we’re there at”. I didn’t say anything as I didn’t want this to ruin our meal.

Both ordered mince and dumplings, my meal came with not much more than a tablespoon of mince but my partner’s was fine. Time before this my wife parmo came with frozen chips and...

Really enjoyed dinner here on Friday evening. Fish & chips excellent, served quickly & with a smile despite being busy. Saturday night was a different story, we waited almost 40 mins before we asked where the food was. I was told by a very rude member of staff that there was a 90 minute time lapse for food as it was exceptionally busy evening. I explained that we had never been told this, to which she replied, well it says in on the bar! On the bar was a small black board that stated there was a 45 minute waiting for food, I showed thus to the waitress who said, "well you'll still have to wait at least another 30 minutes!" I went back to my table & another make waiter came to the table & politely apologised & told me that our food would be ready in 5-10 minutes & she had made a mistake. This was all very satisfactory, I know it was busy, but politeness & manners cost nothing in this sort of environment. The food when it arrived was just as good as the previous evening. It just marred what had been a lovely day...
