arrived in at the van to find the heating wasnt working, informed reception who said they would get someone out. Went swimming came back and found a note saying that all we had to do was operate the thermostat. Tried that later that night still didnt work. called security who came out and said the boiler wasn't firing up . They spent at least an hour trying to sort it. Thought they had got it working only for it to cut out seconds after they had left. Went to reception the next day who said someone was going to come out. Went to the restaurant as by that time I was shivering. We went back to the van still wasn't working. Waited until the afternoon still no heating. Went to reception and they said that someone had sorted it. Someone else came out and confirmed it still wasn't working even though we had been told that it was. The maintenance man said it was the thermostat that was the issue as it had been isolated from the boiler and to call a gas man to sort it, even after explaining that due to health and disability's difficulties I get cold quickly and struggle to keep my body temperature he seemed to dismiss this stating that we didn`t need the heating at the point . I asked if they could provide any alternative heating i.e. a blow heater or electric heater at reception which they claimed they couldn't. I paid to arrive early, we arrived on the Saturday instead of the Monday which I paid an extra £217 for and spent two days trying to sort it instead of enjoying our holiday. When it comes to reception their attitude was dismissive of concerns and problems but happy when they are taking your money. We stayed in a Wensum Caravan , I booked this due to the fact it had a bath but the taps were extremely stiff to turn on and off. I did mention this to reception but again it didn't appear as though anything was done
On our last night my husband who has spinal issues and needs to move on a regular basis to prevent pain and stiffness left the show bar and into the arcade. A rude arcade attendant accused him of simply just collecting 2ps from the trays of the machines . This made him feel extremely uncomfortable to be spoken to in this manner , it had also not happened during any other point of the holiday even though we had both gone into the arcade on a number of occasions without any questions asked. As paying guests it is not acceptable that he was made to feel uncomfortable or intimidated .
As a wheelchair the user the lack of disability accessibility and facilities is shocking. The doors to enter and leave the main complex are two heavy doors and no automatic feature meaning that I had to struggle to open them and on one occasion my husband had to leave our table and belongings just to let me in. The shop again has a heavy door meaning someone in a chair will struggle to open it, this is also the same for the swimming pool entrance. There is no proper accessible changing room for the disabled and is simply just a larger area with a toilet but no shower or proper wet room floor. The show bar is by no means easily accessible for those in a chair. The tables and chairs are all cramped together meaning if someone in a chair wants to access the front of the show bar this is not done easily. The disabled toilet did not lock and I was always worried that someone would use their key to enter, it was also small and cramped which made it difficult to enter and leave in with...
Read moreLong but honest review. Just come back from a weekend at parkdean cherry tree, were we went with other family members were we had 4 caravans. I have stayed at this site at least 3 times before and have started at other parkdean sites haven't had any issues before, however on this occasion we had problems as soon as we got the key to our caravan, we made our way to it and opened the door however as soon as we entered we noticed grass on the floor in the living area, i went back round to reception to ask for it to be cleaned and for one of the twin beds to be removed as they hadn't done so even though the booking was for 2 adults and an infant. I left my wife in the caravan, when i returned she told me there was more issues. There was hair on the floor in the hallway, some sort of dusty powder in the sink, and much worse than all that there was dried blood on the duvet, you know the type of blood than can transmit hepatitis B and C amongst other diseases. Anyway around 10 minutes later the cleaner arrived and cleaned the caravan, to a good standard however we had now been on site for an hour and a bit before we could start unpacking, and our 6 month old baby wasn't very happy either. Once we had sorted we went round to reception and spoke to a lady about the issues we had and she said "ITS SORTED NOW THOUGH" I said "YES, BUT THATS NOT THE POINT, THERE WAS BLOOD ON THE DUVET AND THAT COULD SPREAD DISEASES" all she could say was I'm very sorry I'll feed it back to the cleaning team. The first night we were awake at 5am and it was freezing, I looked at the boiler and it was working the timer was set to "ON" however there was no heating, I called the 24hr number then I noticed the boost button in the bedroom, I pressed this and the heating came on, the security guy came round and said it's working now, I said "IT IS BUT ONLY IF I PRESS THIS BUTTON" He said well if it's working then then that's fine. However after he left it became apparent it wasn't working how it should as it should have been on all the time with how the boiler was set. I tried to use the heater in the main living area however the batteries in the remote had died and I couldn't turn it on. I didn't complain to reception as to be honest I felt the staff couldn't care less, they had our money and given they didn't care about us potentially getting diseases or the caravan being unclean upon our arrival, I doubt they would care about us being cold. Thoughout the weekend 3 of the 4 caravans had problems with the boilers, it don't know if we were just unlucky but to have 75% go wrong it seems like they possibly aren't maintaining them properly and that's concerning for a gas boiler. The park itself is ok with good facilities which were mostly clean other than we went swimming and we're the first people in when it opened on the Saturday to find some sort of powder on the bench in the changing room suggesting that the changing rooms hadn't been cleaned since closing on Friday. The service in the restaurant was fast however the speed to clear tables of plates was slow. I don't think I will ever want to stay at a parkdean site again which is a shame given how many great family getaways we have...
Read moreI am currently staying at this site. There are a number of small issues which have disappointed me but two issues which are unacceptable.
The washing machine kitchen unit door is hanging off. I deem this to be dangerous to me and my children as it has nearly fallen on us several times.
The oven despite working, it takes hours to cook simple food. We cooked sausages that were not frozen and they took 90 minute to cook... this should have taken 20 minutes, 30 minutes at most. As a self catering holiday this is pretty poor.
Further to this I also wish tk make the following complaints regarding basic issues/ necssaties that should have been provided:
We were supplied with 1 tiny oven tray, but the caravan sleeps 8. This is a self catering holiday how are we supposed to cater for 8 people or even 4 people on this?
Extractor hood covers missing. Missing knife from block. No pizza wheel (in 2022 this is beyond a joke everyone eats pizza) No measuring jug
Cleaning issues: The light fittings are covered in dust, like something from a horror movie and there are cobwebs on the ceiling of the bedrooms. 9.Under the sofas have not been vacuumed. One of the walls are damaged walls No hoover so we can't clean/ keep the van clean ourselves.
Other basic issues (minor issues that could be overlooked but not after the above faults): 10.Batteries in the TV remote are flat. Batteries in the fireplace are flat. Wall is damaged. Hinges on the kitchen drawers are faulty. We were not provided any welcome pack in our caravan. I followed the leaflet guide in the caravan which Saif to look online for the digital welcome pack. But this online guide says to check the paper welcome guide in the caravan?? We later found out from a security guard in the amusements that we should have been given a paper guide and we could collect one from reception.
A number of the slats in the master bedroom bed were missing.
No chopping board...
I tried to report these issues over the weekend as we arrived Saturday but the reception was not open until Monday.
I followed the advice on material provided in the caravan and called security to report these issues but this went straight to voicemail. I left a message but no one called back. It is now Tuesday and still nothing.
Positives are the park is clean and tidy and the staff wandering about seem nice.
First time staying with ParkDean and at this moment in time I don't plan to repeat the experience.
Update...
After contacting head office about the issues we had a visit from the site accommodation manager on day 5 of our holiday. She was very professional and apologetic about the issues and offered to get maintenance to come and take a look at the issues. Owing to us all being very unwell and not wanting to be disturbed we declined. Further to this, even if we had accepted the offer it was too little too late, we were only there for 7 days and who wants to hang about for repairs to their holiday accommodation??
We later found some ParkDean discount vouchers on our table which was lovely and must have been a gesture of goodwill but we didn't...
