As I write this review, I have been waiting 2 hours for my main course at the carvery.
Where did this all go wrong I say....let me start.
As I attempted to park in the hotel I was refused entry by the national heritage staff. I explained that I had a pre-booked a table for a party 10, but still was told that I couldn't park and had to park down the road 500 metres away. So I drive to the other car park beside the old school to be greeted again by another national heritage worker who stated I shouldn't of been sent here to park. After a few choice words I was told I could park.
Then as I walked about 10 minutes to get into the hotel I was seated in the most disorganised dining experience which was something out of the 1980's on par with faulty towers.
I waited 30 minutes for the starter to be served which consisted of garlic mushrooms which were just ok.
This is when the fun then starts. I waited nearly 1 hour, to be allocated our time to get up to the carvery.
As I queued up I was told by the chef that unfortunately they had no chicken or ham, basically nothing left. They were in the process of cooking more food and would inform us in 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, I was informed by a waitress that there was no food left and did we want chicken. We were puzzled by what we were being offered and stated that we would all like chicken.
Another 10 minutes and then a manager appears. Asks us again do we want chicken. We asked again what was happening and we were being told that we would be served the food at the table instead of a carvery.
Orders were taking but there was no turkey or ham.
As we ordered we were greeted now by a waiter with attitude.
We had the choice of beef, chicken or pork, that was it. The order was taken and we were brought food which is even more comical.
It is now 1705hrs and have been served my dinner which went back a record of 3 times. First of a strip of beef appeared which was about 5cm of length. It was taken away and replaced with what looked like pulled pork.
Again this dinner went back and the potatoes were cold. It went back again and was presented with a minimal plate with no roast potatoes and it was still cold. It was sent back and I was finally informed that they had no roast potatoes.
This was enough of the fine dining experience for myself and the manager came.
No one out of the group ate any of the dinner. The manager came and apologised and has waved the bill.
Please see the photos of the meals they...
Read moreWe stayed in room 28 for 2 nights on Sept. 11 and 12, 2025. The hotel is located next to the GC visitor center and is a 20 min. walk to the GC.|The main reason to stay here is it's location. You can get to the GC before and after the tour buses, and visit it as many times as you like. The views from the hotel are a strong second reason.|We thought the staff were some of the nicest people we have encountered at the hotel.|Our stay included breakfast and entry to the visitor center.|When you drive to the hotel, expect to be stopped and quizzed to make sure you are really staying there, parking at the hotel is limited and day trippers are not supposed to park there and the security people make sure they don't.|Check in and out is at the first set of doors you see, the same entry as the restaurant, at the desk to the right after you enter the hotel.|Room 28 is on the second floor and at the end of the hotel, it has a patio and great view of the ocean and surrounding area.|Expect a decent walk and several sets of stairs to get to the room.|The room is a triple with one single and one double bed. It is good sized, with 2 arm chairs, a wardrobe , large table and a small private bathroom/toilet area. There is a tea kettle and Nesspresso machine with an assortment of teas and coffees. The internet was fine for emails and surfing the web.|The room was clean and quiet. The beds and pillows were reasonable comfortable. The room needed refurbishment ( worn carpet, hole in the inside of the bathroom door, some areas in need of patching/painting on the walls and ceiling). It was functional but not what you would expect for $390 US/270 pounds a night. Basically, you pay a premium for the location. The hallways and public areas are also in need of TLC and refurbishment.|The restaurant has very good food and the breakfast was one of the best we have had.|If you are from the USA, note there are switches on the electrical wall outlets that you need to turn on for them to work, |The hotel is worth staying at, if you want to visit the GC with no crowds and several times. Room 28, has a great view that makes up for the trek to the room...
Read moreLet me start by saying, The Giants Causeway is a must see in Ireland. That being said. The Causeway Hotel is the best choice for doing so. Let me tell you why. When we showed up, it was later in the day, and rather than check in, we immediately hiked down to the Causeway. It's a decent amount of walking, and, me being the adventurer I am, I did a lot of extra running around and climbing. This is all after hiking a couple other trails earlier in the day while trekking up to some waterfalls. I say all this to give you an idea of how much of an appetite we had worked up. When we finally got to the hotel to check in, we asked about the hotel restaurant and we were informed it was closed. Not only that, Ruby, the on duty manager told us we would not find anything else around that was open, it was pretty late after all. Seeing our dismay, Ruby generously offered to have the staff "whip something up" in the kitchen saying they had bread and lunch meat. We were ecstatic with even that gesture, however, when we sat down and ordered a Guinness, we were astounded at the platter the staff brought out to us. Indeed it was "just a sandwich" but they were beautifully crafted, AND placed on a platter with a hearty salad. In addition, they brought out a number of pastries! After all the hiking we did, we STILL couldn't finish all the food they brought us. Since it wasn't even a menu item there wasn't a good way to charge us for it, so they just figured something out and charged a very small amount. The staff (Devin, Robin, and Hannah) were amazing in helping Ruby to accommodate us, not only did they prepare food for us, they kept the beverages coming and stayed and chatted with us while we enjoyed a late evening on a Tuesday. I cannot say enough about the staff at this hotel. Not only did they bend over backwards to take care of a couple wayward Americans, they were friendly and wore smiles the entire time. This hotel is literally right at the Causeway so staying anywhere else would be a travesty! If you stay send...
