The bed and breakfast is conveniently located for a wedding at the Kingston Estate in Staverton. When we arrived it was quite difficult to find the entrance before a neighbour showed us the entrance at the back. ||The room was a good size with an ensuite. The linen and towels were all fresh. The room was clean except for a few cobwebs. The tiles in the shower were stained with mould and the hot tap in the sink did not work so I had to boil the kettle in the room to get hot water for the sink. I mentioned the tap to Alex the host and he just said he has been trying to get a plumber to look at it for a couple of months.||The breakfast is satisfactory. Nothing was fried, the host said he never fries anything so that it is healthy. It consisted of cornflakes, grilled tomato slices, two sausages, two slices of grilled smoked bacon and two poached eggs. The eggs were nice but there was no option to season your food yourself. It came already seasoned with salt and cracked black pepper. If you're looking for an indulgent weekend treat for brekkie or a bit of choice this is not the place for you. It is either what the host has decided is "healthy" or no breakfast! We would both have much preferred to be able to choose what we got to eat and add our own seasoning, but the breakfast we did get was satisfactory.||The breakfast room was also clearly storage for many shoes that looked like they were for sale online, in bags and boxes.||The host was very flexible about you coming and going as you pleased during your stay, and did provide you with a key to the back door which we didn't need but was nice as we were going to a wedding and were not sure what time we would be back. Also one to note - impossible to get taxis to and from. Had to drive to the wedding venue. Alex did say the morning we checked out that he would have run us back to the venue to get our car the next day though. ||The bed was quite comfy if exceptionally creaky, and we could hear someone snoring loudly in another room when we were in bed!||All in all this is a 3 star rating from us. Distinctly average but with potential to be...
Read moreWe stayed here recently and were really looking forward to it. The photos looked amazing. We had the large room with the huge window. Beautiful building and room, but unfortunately not crisp & fresh like the photos. The curtains did not fit properly and had stains on them. The shower room was nice but again very tired and in need of new mastic etc. The room just felt as if it needed a really good clean. It says you have a private terrace but in reality it is a small area and the table & chairs were not all that inviting to sit on and relax. The owner was pleasant enough but we were disappointed with the breakfast, from the reviews we were expecting great things, it was a cooked breakfast, sausage bacon grilled tomato & poached eggs with toast. Personally we felt it was all a little over cooked, and you had to like poached eggs as there was no other alternative. Cereals was cornflakes or Meusli. We have just been used to having more choice ie: yogurt, croissants etc if you do not want a full English. This place potentially could be amazing with a little TLC and attention to detail. The reviews on here are all from a few years ago hence I feel this is why the rooms were so much fresher & cleaner at that time and this reflected in the reviews. This is not a budget B & B So the little details...
Read moreWe stayed at the Longacre B&B from Friday to Sunday to attend a wedding locally. We chose it because of the reviews and it's location. We had a wonderful stay, the accommodation is an traditional barn conversion done to very high standard. we stayed in the large airy room with a fantastic en suite (the tiles need re grouting, but the shower is very good otherwise). The bed is utterly divine! with lots of lovely feather pillows and crisp clean white sheets. It was very clean and very comfortable. ||||The owner of the property Alex was extremely welcoming and we had an extremely pleasant breakfast on both days along with lovely conversation about the local areas. The breakfast was really delicious, an english with very good grilled bacon and sausages and some extremely good poached eggs which we loved!! Alex suggested a couple of great walks we could take at a nearby river which runs along an old steam engine railway. It was lovely and like stepping back in time. ||||The location is very much off the beaten track and remote, which added to its charm, on a stroll home on the Saturday eve, the sky was clear and the stars were incredible! I hope one day i have another reason to visit this part of Devon as we had such...
