I can’t fault the actual hotel itself - it’s a premier Inn and you know what you’re going to get. This hotel didn’t disappoint from that perspective. Clean, simple and very comfortable beds. Extra tea, coffee etc available in reception was a nice touch. ||||Unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for the linked restaurant where the food, service and general attitude was pretty poor. ||||We paid in advance for a meal deal package. I have used this many many times before when travelling for work and never had any problems. Sadly this was not the case this time. The staff who came to take my order had no clue on what drinks were included in the package which resulted in her running back and forth to get answers to my question. Which was quite simple “ what cider can I have if I pay the upgrade” After 3 attempts and being told I could only have larger even though it clearly says cider on their advert. It ended in me asking her to take me to whoever she is asking the question of and after some eye rolling on her part she finally agreed to give me cider. It wasn’t like I was asking to have it for free, I was prepared to pay. ||||Next came our starters, I ordered chicken and was brought tomato soup! In fairness they did sort that quickly. My steak course was not good it tasted of cleaning fluid, I have no idea how they managed that. ||||Breakfast was equally disappointing with lots of missing items and empty dishes even at 8am. I waited for replacements to be brought out and set down to eat only to find the food was stone cold. I suspect it had sat in the kitchen for a while waiting to be brought out. ||||All in all I have no issues with the hotel which was good but I would suggest you...
Read moreThere’s nothing specifically wrong about this specific hotel in Grantham, but I have bones to pick with Premier Inn. They are all just as bad. I travel extensively for work at the sound of 3 to 4 nights away every week, and today I was reminded why I have been avoiding Premier Inns for the last 5 years or so.
Abysmal internet, unless you pay an extra fee for the “Ultimate Internet Package”, which is basically the same crappy connection with a bow on the top. Don’t try using it too far from the door, or it’ll go a slow as a snail or lose Wi-Fi altogether. Let’s not talk about using 4g from inside a faraday cage. I swear to god I never had the same issues at any of the other chains, albeit in all fairness cheapo Travelodge is racing Premier Inn for the bottom place. Why do I care so much? Half of my work is online, and I am usually desperate for good connection.
In this day and age, any hotel with the word “Premier” in the name should be better, so much better, and instead it only suggests you need to pay more for less.
Again, I’ve experienced the “you must book a table for breakfast tomorrow” or all tables in an empty restaurant are reserved, at 6.30, I was almost turned away and you wouldn’t guess the restaurant was still basically empty when I left half an hour later.
I guess my giving them another chance just proved my avoidance is there for a...
Read moreWe stayed last night and parking was easy. The family room was a good size but that's where the positive ends. The room was dirty and the bathroom had not been cleaned, we did a quick rinse round but then discovered the shower temp handle was stuck. We both tried before giving up and asking to move rooms. The duty manager was really lovely she came up and with some brute strength managed to move it. She apologised for the room and offered to clean the bathroom and she had to do others that evening because housekeeping had done a bad job. Getting into bed the bed had lots of hairs in it so we changed the pillows and shook out the sheets. We did not sleep well here from 3am to 5am there was lots of banging doors and then house keeping came in and were shouting for each other in the corridor. Whoever Margaret is clearly is hard of hearing as her co workers were shouting for her - a lot. Morning showers were intermittent between boiling hot and cold water and if you sit on the loo you'll find you get dripped on in room 86, could be a leak who knows. The food next door is nice but service slow all in all not a good...
