The room was good overall. It was clean, a good size, the bed was comfortable, and we were kept topped up with bottled water, milk, a wide selection of teas, coffee, and some biscuits. There was a hair dryer, a fan, a fan heater, bathrobes, an iron and ironing board, and a kettle. I was somewhat surprised that there was no Bible, but that's quite a minor thing overall.
The bathroom would be to the taste of most people, in that it was always extremely warm, and the showers were consistently scalding hot. It wasn't to our taste, because even at minimum temperature the water from the shower was far too hot for us, and we had to keep turning it on and off for it to be usable for us. The bathroom was also not ventilated.
The room as a whole had very thin walls, we were often annoyed by loud music or simply people stomping past the room.
The food was quite disappointing, especially given the price. Breakfast options were of good quality, but very limited, and to have any cooked food beyond some slices of toast you had to pay. They're also very strict about timing. Past 20:31 there's no food served anywhere in the hotel. We liked the lunch menu, but it wasn't available at any other time, and the options for dinner were universally poor.
For the first dinner I had an overcooked risotto with completely raw asparagus where my wife had almost entirely unseasoned chicken, stale bread, and more raw asparagus. After that I ventured to try chickpeas and cauliflower in brown water served with plain wild rice and equally plain naan bread. The ingredients were of a good quality but the cooks plainly had no idea what they were doing with them. The desserts were alright but I've made much better myself. The drinks, however, were a saving grace, with some very nice cocktails and mocktails.
We found that hotel staff were economical with information. We found out only when we cleared the tab that our breakfast and dinner package only covered dinner for the first night. Our voucher also only covered the first night, something which they were quite unwilling to check over the phone.
Overall the hotel side of things was worth it, albeit with many caveats. For food, however, go elsewhere. The Saracen's Head just down the road is far better, for example, despite having some sort of sister relationship...
Read moreIf I could give it a 0 star I probably would. I will start with saying, they have so customer service skills apart from one person. I was maid of honour for my best friends wedding, it was a beautiful wedding. However, some of the staff don’t have a clue what they’re doing or how to speak to people. We had an issue with paying for rooms, one minute they were paid, next they weren’t. It got resolved, well we thought it had… anyway, we were eating our breakfast and Laura the ‘event manager’ walked in telling us one room hadn’t been paid. We told her how much of an ongoing issue this had been. She then said if it wasn’t resolved she was going to charge any card for the payment. We told her she couldn’t do that, in which she proceeded to laugh and smirk at us. We tried to resolve the issue by showing our bank accounts that the payments had been taken and nothing was outstanding. She told us she couldn’t read what was on the phone because she didn’t have her glasses, we asked her to put them on and she said she didn’t have them, which seemed to be OUR fault. She continued to laugh in our faces and call us rude, I said you are currently shouting at the bride and groom this was their wedding in which she replied “that was yesterday, today is a different day”. The level of absolute awful customer service from this woman actually shocked me. The issue regarding the room was entirely the staffs mistake, as they clearly didn’t complete the transaction. A lot of money went into this wedding and to be spoken to way we all were is disgusting. I paid £135 to stay for the night, the room wasn’t great. I went for a shower and more water was dripping out the hose then the actual shower head. Complete waste of £135, I expect so much better from a popular venue. The prices of drinks is disgusting also. I will not be returning.
However, I do want to say, Ollie who was the manager on shift for the wedding was absolutely amazing. He couldn’t do anymore for us and made the day super special. He was there to help at any given opportunity and such a...
Read moreHaving worked in hospitality myself for a number of years, I have to say I’m embarrassed at the level of unprofessionalism of their ‘managers’ on site. I was a guest to a wedding and this being the morning of 18/7. Complete disorganisation and chaos caused by staff whom clearly could do with some further training on customer service and care. From my point of view, If a problem occurs, there is always a professional approach in which the matter can be dealt in. It may be an idea to further educate and train your managers, before putting them in charge of such things. In mine, and as you can see in may other opinions, smiling and laughing in someone’s face, being completely arrogant and sarcastic, is not the style of a manager. Not within the highly respectable venue I worked in anyway. Having being told ‘this is the bride and groom, it’s their wedding please can you be more polite’ and having LAURA respond, ‘well not today is it’ is astonishing. So bluntly, once your wedding day is over that’s it, you’re treated in this way? Please do better. This is supposed to be the start of a new happy life for newly weds, and this is how they are treated on departure. In my own personal experience I feel there was a 50/50 split with staff. Some so pleasant, really went above and beyond, yet some, it seemed ‘just another wedding’ attitude. For my own personal experience, it started when I asked the morning of 17/7 the lady behind the counter near the restaurant, where the bride was staying, I needed to go to her room and if you’ve been to Weston hall before, it was a maze and I was lost. I got a response of an slight eye roll, and told to follow. Where this lady nearly sprinted to the room, pointed up the stairs and said, ‘up stairs, turn right, left etc etc as fast as she could and then walked off. I had to laugh it off, but wow. Anyway, in conclusion, beautiful venue, grounds and food. But sadly really let down by a lot of the staff. Such a shame as this has left a very...
