Artic RV Park was probably I nice little RV park in the woods, but I definitely would not recommend it now.
I made a reservation by phone about six weeks in advance and was told I’d be in Site 13 and that I could pay on arrival. My normal procedure when planning a trip is to create a detailed itinerary that includes the name and address of each stop, the dates of stay, the services available, the electrical amperage, and the daily rate. Unfortunately, I failed to record both the amperage and rate for this location. Normally, I’m able to find suitable locations for less than $45, in part because I stay in a lot of federal campgrounds and I have access to military RV parks. However, I sometimes can’t find anything that reasonable and have to shell out a little more.
When I arrived, I was told they had another coach in that spot, but the I could have Site 12. Then they told me that it would be $50. I was taken aback because I think I probably would have remembered that they were charging that much. I’m sure there are other options that were less.
This park isn’t advertised as an RV Resort and it definitely doesn’t fall into that category. Their park map is one of the worst I’ve ever seen, and neither of the two people who were attempting to give me verbal directions are any good at it. But, I’m a geographer and thought I could figure it out. Wrong.
First, I went down the right road, but thought I’d taken the wrong one when it became very narrow and had an abundance of low-hanging branches. So, I backed up and took the other road. It also have a lot of low-hanging branches, but I was able to maneuver around most of them and the others where small enough to not do any damage.
Well down that road, however, I studied the map again and realized I was supposed to have continued down the first road. Not wanting to back up on that road, I saw the map showed an area where I could probably turn around to back into my site. It was tight, but I managed.
The side was level and large enough, but the parking spot was uneven and didn’t appear to be very firm. So, I set out my jack pads, leveled the coach and opened the slideouts.
But then I discovered that it was a 30 amp site and I’m pretty sure I’d been told I’d have a 50 amp site. Again, though, I hadn’t made my usual detailed notes, and I can make do with 30 amps in a pinch.
After setting up, I told my wife that we only had 30 amps and cautioned her to use only one of the two heat pumps at any one time. She forgot. When we lost power, I assumed that we’d only tripped the circuit breaker at the power pedestal. We still had no power, however, after I reset it. At that point, I pulled out my old portable surge protector, plugged it in and saw that the pedestal had no power. So, I called the office and was told that they could reset the main circuit breaker, but that it would take a few minutes.
Curious, I walked to a nearby site and discovered that it had a 50-amp outlet, and by that time it had power.
We made it through the night after regaining power, but there are other serious issues with this park. There is zero upkeep. We had trash in our fire pit and smaller bits of trash scattered around the site (including a torn and rust tin can). What passes for grass is really knee-high weeds. Suffice it to say that it’s been a long time since this was a nice little park in the woods. It has potential, but it needs a lot of work. In the meantime, it is definitely not...
Read moreI want to start out by saying that we truly don’t understand why this place would get a negative review. We had such a great time at the Artic, and the hospitality of the staff played a big role. It was very easy to get in contact with the staff through phone and text, they were always quick to respond and very helpful with any questions we had. Check-in is at the bar, which seems like a fun little place, the people there seemed to be having a good time and treated us very kindly.
The Artic is very reasonably priced (we were camping in our tent) and the location is great! There weren’t too many people there so it was nice and quiet and it was nice to have some privacy in comparison to the campsites we’ve seen at the coast, where you’re crammed next to one another. Keep in mind this rv park is next to a road so you might hear some cars at night, but nothing too bad.
The amenities were great and very affordable and clean too. There were toilets, showers, a washing machine and dryer which were all in great shape. Some might say the shower house can look a little outdated, but I’d say you shouldn’t expect everything to look the same as it does at home when camping.
We initially wanted to stay at this campsite for one night, but since we liked it so much, we booked another night. We made a fire and the staff was kind enough to give us some extra firewood so we could keep the fire going. We really appreciated that!
All in all we’d give this place 5 stars and would...
Read morethough. RV park is the best it's the nicest one me and my family have found, they have an area to do laundry or wash dishes and a lil cabin that is full of books and games with a few tables to sit at for food or whatever you might need. There is bathrooms and showers that can be used and are always found clean. Just a short walk and u can have a drink at their bar or order a hot meal for dinner whichever you are looking for. The best thing about this RV park is ur not crammed in like sardines like most and there is this lovely trail behind the park that goes alongside the river and gives u a chance to be a part of nature, witness some animals in there natural habitats and take in the beautiful scenery that is surrounding you at the arctic RV park. Follow the trail to the giant tree at the end and try to guess how old a tree of that size might be,or family had fun with that also. The owners were always very helpful to us and were great with the children and made sure to tell us about all that they had to offer for an exciting time there at the arctic. I would recommend this place to...
