Stayed here for a conference. The good: The employees were wonderful. Friendly and polite. Most especially the individuals working at the cafe and restaurant. The okay: Location was not far from the Woodfield Mall and many restaurants. They have a nice gym, as it isn't technically the hotels, but a club house that lets them use the facility. I was told I had to pay to use it, but another guest mentioned there was a free gym upstairs. I didn't investigate to verify, so maybe call ahead to get clarification. Was going to use the lap pool, which was free, but didn't feel comfortable with the desk employees facing the pool watching me workout. The bad: The parking lot is terrible. Lines were difficult to see, so cars were sticking out so it was tight to pass through, taking extra spaces, or parked so close you couldn't get into your car. Surprised I didn't find a dent in my car because of the parking situation. The room is in desperate need of updating. The mattress topper was lumpy and had tons of pilling. The sheets were so thin, you could see through them and this meant feeling every bump on that terrible mattress topper. Had the worst night of sleep ever in a hotel. Thankfully, it isn't far from Ikea, so I went and bought a comforter in between work sessions, so I could have some sort of coverage between me and the topper. Helped a little. There is also curtains in the corner suites. Curtains were dusty and placed in a way there was gaping between window and furniture. Provided tons of hiding spots and it was easy for items to fall off the desk or behind the couch. Found a pair of socks from a previous guest hidden by the curtains when a bag of mine fell off the desk. They should replace these with blinds. The bathroom also could use some fixing up, but minor in comparison to the mattress problem imo. Do not upgrade to a corner suite. Save your money. The internet was not reliable. Tried to do some work in the morning and evening, but kept running into issues with connectivity. Called the front desk and they transferred me to a third party company. After proving it wasn't any of my devices, they reset the router for my particular room. It worked until the next day. Do not plan to accomplish any work unless you have a hotspot.
Again, every employee I interacted with was lovely. Might be the only positive thing to come from my stay. If management, or whoever can approve repairs and updates, is able to make some changes on the above mentioned things....I'd definitely stay here. Until then, I don't believe I would.
(Attached pictures, but don't see them when I submitted this review. Did a review on Yelp and am able to see them, so if you want to see the mentioned things above,...
Read moreI had the opportunity to stay here for 5 days so this isn't just an overnight observation.
I arrived on Sunday night and I had already checked in online. The gentleman at the front desk set me up with a room key for the top floor. Well that key didn't work. So I went back down to the front desk and the same gentleman couldn't even remember me from not even 5 min earlier. I had to explain that he just gave me this key and it didn't work. When I gave him the room #, he looked puzzled, as if there was someone already in that room. They assigned me to another room but that key didn't work in the elevator. Finally after about an hour of trying to get a room, I'm in.
The room was clean and large. The view was nice. It's really flat out here so you can see pretty far. I only had 1 day with no rain so the view wasn't the greatest. There is a nice couch that isn't a sleeper. Big TV that I never turned on. A bit of an overkill on the lights in the room. Do you really need 4 lights in here? Really? Moving on. There is a power outlet and a USB outlet on every light base but I couldn't find a network connection point to plug into. There is free wifi and very easy to connect with. The HVAC for the room works but the vent is disgusting and looks like it's covered in mold. I turned that off immediately upon discovering that.
The bathroom is snug because the door gets in the way. The water pressure is strong in the sink but the shower is kinda weak. The shower doesn't drain so you stand in dirty water when you are trying to clean up. I never used the coffee maker. Those are always disgusting so why bother.
The room wasn't quiet. Being on the top floor I listened to the jet traffic for O'Hare. The inside of the hotel is open. The guests that hang out at the bar all night get loud and the noise echoes. Laying in bed trying to sleep, listening to drunk people laughing and yelling, and having slow moving jets fly over. Sigh. Sleep is overrated, right? The internet was non existent on Thursday night and Friday morning. There was no hot water on Thursday morning as well.
There was one other time that my key didn't work in my room. The shocked look that I got when I told them that my name isn't George and that I had slept in that room the night before was bad. They didn't admit to it but I think they had given my room away with all my gear in it to someone else. I just happened to get there before them.
The hotel has a breakfast buffet and you can order eggs or an omelette, none or that is included. There is a restaurant. I never ate there. There is no restaurans or stores within walking distance so a rental...

You walk in two double doors and then there's this long hall with nothing in it then you turn the corner and bam, washroom and bed. I was able to check out other regular rooms while they had the doors open for cleaning and it was confirmed that the only difference between the King Junior suite and a regular king room is the long unnecessary hallway that serves no purpose to the room itself. Oh and did I mention that you shouldn't run the washroom sink for long because the water doesn't drain fast enough and just fills fast? It literally takes over 15 minutes drain just to wash hands again. My recommendation, do not waste your money on the King Junior Suite. I mentioned it to the front desk in the evening and both him and some mechanical guy told me that's just the way they are. I asked the guy behind the desk what's the purpose of charging more for a room that has a hallway that serves zero purpose and adds no "suite" amenity to the room itself, he said he didn't know and once again he asked the mechanical guy and he said look we're not sales. I then asked about the sink and they said all the rooms have slow sink drains and that it's normal. Great answers night crew.
Now the only reason I'm giving this a 2 star rating is for the staff during the day. The girls behind the desk during the day were extremely helpful with random needs ie towels, shower soap etc. (Mind you the shower soap was empty already on my first day. So I needed to have someone refill it before I even used it.) I gave up on trying to switch rooms or get an answer for the room debacle because I was busy all day with convention meetings and didn't have time to unload in another room plus with others events there, the girls seemed very busy as it was. The ladies working the restarting were extremely polite and helpful with breakfast. I did get a chance to have a brief conversation with one of the staff members that overheard my conversation of frustration with the room and they came over and were very apologetic and stating that the entire hotel is understaffed because no one wants to work so hotel staff is doing double duty but it's not enough. I really felt bad for the staff that actually cared to try.
Lastly I will say that Bella was the most outstanding staff member there. She went above and beyond during each interaction. So if anyone deserved five stars it would be her.
I will be sharing the experience with the convention committee...
