My husband and I chose Knik River Lodges to host our wedding ceremony and reception dinner. We had initially set it up for 2020 but had to reschedule for 2021 because of COVID. We worked with Lars throughout the entire process. He literally wears every hat at the lodge so sometimes was busy and hard to get ahold of but he made sure we got exactly what we wanted. He booked the helicopter tour for us, he put together a great dinner menu, he allowed us to use his dogs during the ceremony, and he went above and beyond for our guests crazy requests. We set everything up over the phone and email as we didnt live in Alaska and had never been there. We brought 16 guests with us who all stayed at the lodge as well. Some had issues with the front desk clerical details but Lars made sure things were corrected and that they were all taken care of. The lodge was a perfect place to host our wedding. The ceremony backdrop of mountains was breathtaking. The reception room was clean and roomy, and our wedding planner had a great canvas to build on. The cabins were a nice mix of rustic and modern. They didnt have cable but had hundreds of DVDs to choose from. They had nice hot showers which are exactly what you want after a long day exploring, or partying, in Alaska. The helicopter access was a nice plus that we took advantage of. Cant wait to see the pictures on the glacier! The food at Ravens Perch was delicious, we ate there for breakfast and dinner. We also enjoyed the wedding dinner they catered for us. Everyone raved about the cheesecake dessert and want the recipe. Overall everything was great! We even saw a moose cow and baby in the front lawn during our welcome dinner. Unfortunately no Northern Lights, maybe next time....
Read moreThis was our final revision to the trip and we did not stay here for the helicopter tour, as I can imagine most people pick this place for - not only we did know about it but also had already one booked during this trip somewhere else - but I must say seeing the helicopters coming down and up was pretty cool - the noise did not bother at all. ||||The individual cabins are really nice, have smart TVs and amazing views outside - during our visit it was super cold/windy so regretfully we did not spend any time on the seats in front of the cabin, other than just for a very short time :(||||This is a pretty remote area, there is a small grocery store on the way pretty close buy called "General Store" that we passed by that did not really show up on google maps, but other than that you come here to unwind and enjoy the views + probably do the heli tour. The restaurant on the spot is actually pretty great, despite somewhat mediocre reviews out there - everything was fresh and made in house during our to-go dinner (reviewed separately) and they have wine and beer on top - so really everything is here that one needs to function during a nice stay!||||Breakfast included was very basic, but "better" than usual breakfast included at other places - fresh fruit + yogurt + granola. You can order hot stuff separately but you pay for it (see separate review of the restaurant). Complimentary coffee did the trick too in the morning.||||Overall, pricey place but nice, but do your homework and take advantage of the helicopter tour as otherwise you are probably overpaying for the convenience here of that option considering...
Read moreWe stayed in the Alaska Glacier Lodge for one night and had lunch, dinner and breakfast the next morning. The cabins are comfy, with astonishing views over the Knik river and the helicopters from the porch of your cabin. The owners were staying in the cabin next door, and they were so nice to bring a recliner to our cabin for my pregnant wife.
The highlight of our week in Alaska was the helicopter tour from this very same location. The lodge restaurant and helicopter tour check in is in the same building. It was my wife, me and our 2yo. They went above and beyond in communication before our trip, answering questions for the suitability of the tour for a toddler, and they made arrangements to make it easy and enjoyable for him. And we had a blast. We took the one landing tour to keep it short, and it was like being in a different planet. The helicopter driver Ashley was awesome. She explained many features of the glacier and took us to see some moose hanging around lakes on our way back.
Overall, this is a lifetime memory for our family, and I definitely recommend to stay here and do the helicopter tour as part of your...
