My husband and I stayed here for three nights in November 2015 to try and see the aurora borealis - which we did see in spades on our final night!
We stayed in the Wolverine cabin and had eggs and tasty and hardy sourdough pancakes for breakfast each morning. The cabin was warm, clean, and constructed and furnished by the Hickers, the host family. For southern Californians visiting colder climes, especially appreciated were the big, fluffy down blankets, strong heaters in the cabin and shared bathroom, and hot water that heats up immediately. Other amenities include a full kitchen (fridge is a cooler outside) and a shelf full of books and magazines.
Hicker hospitality is warm and generous. Bernie and Uta are long-time residents and are generous with their local knowledge, sharing their own very interesting and courageous story, and have excellent recommendations on how to spend the day.
The final night as the aurora first showed up, Bernie came over to make sure we knew because he knew that was one of the main things we hoped for on this trip.
This place is rustic, made comfortable and super special by the Hickers. Thank you so much, Bernie and Uta, for a wonderful place to stay and your awesome...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying here and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by the warmth of the hosts, who made me feel right at home. Their hospitality truly set the tone for my stay.
The cabin itself is a cozy haven, beautifully designed with rustic charm and all the comforts you could ask for. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring the stunning Alaskan landscape. The ambiance is inviting, with lovely touches that reflect the local culture.
One of the highlights was the breakfast. The hosts whip up some amazing sourdough pancake, I wish I had asked for the recipe. I also wish I could have rates more but I was so full I couldn’t dream of it. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature, this cabin is a must-visit. The combination of great hosts, a cozy atmosphere, and fantastic breakfast makes it a true hidden gem. I can’t wait...
Read moreI can't describe this place enough with words. It's a place in complete wilderness, surrounded by Brooke range, no internet to keep you away from hustle bustle. It was so cozy and comfortable but what makes this place worth a million praises is the way sweet Berni and Uta manage this place and how the small village sustains. They make their own electricity and have to travel 7 hours to Fairbanks on Dalton highway to get groceries. We had a long chat with umcle Berni and he told us about how he moved there and how he and his wife raises their kids there. I definitely recommend this place to anyone driving across Dalton or going to Coldfoot. I and my husband definitely want to go there again and live with the amazing couple for a week. Can't thank them enough to give us the kind of...
