We just finished a short stay at Heidi's lodge, choosing the Boreal Cabin, and we couldn't have been happier. We just wish it was a longer stay. The area is just gorgeous and the cabin was warm, inviting, clean, and cozy. You are doing yourself a disservice if you are in the area and stay at the Coldfoot Camp instead of here (nothing against the camp - it's a great place to eat!). Word to the Wise(man) (sorry, couldn't resist): you are in the middle of nowhere. Be prepared for that. If you don't bring groceries, you ain't gonna have nothin to eat, because there are no Fred Meyers within 500 miles. Not even a Circle K. You're probably not gonna have cell service. If you fall on a hike and break your ankle, there's no Minit Clinic. And the mosquitoes are no joke - they have individual names and voting rights. Many of them are packing heat. All this to say, don't come here from the lower 48 and whine about the things you think this place should have. Enjoy the solitude and great accommodations!

This was a great place to stay on our journey up the Dalton highway. The host is super friendly and very responsive, which was very helpful. We stayed in the Boreal Cabin. We loved it. It felt very cozy and rustic and matched the area wonderfully. After driving up the Dalton, this felt like a little slice of luxury. The kitchen was well equipped, we always had hot water and the wifi worked great. The surroundings were beautiful and it felt like a very authentic Alaskan experience. We had a wonderful time and I’d absolutely stay here again.

We stayed in a cabin so we did not share a kitchen nor bathrooms. The cabin was comfortable, clean and prefect for Aurora viewing! There is a small creek running behind it with lots of trees, and you're on the border of the Gates to the Arctic national park. Coldfoot was about a 15 minute drive away, plus the visitors center to the park was still open. You'll need to bring your own food but most everything else was available. We would definitely stay here again!

Stayed in the Boreal cabin for 3 nights in the first week in August. The place was very clean and comfortable with everything you need for cooking, showering, and sleeping. As someone else said there are no grocery stores so bring what you need. The area around the lodge was interesting to me as I like to look at and inspect old machinery. One thing about Alaska is that there must not be a market for scrap iron. There was a yard full of old bulldozers etc. nearby and and old church chapel that you can just walk in any time. Heidi was very nice and she and her husband seem to take pride in keeping a nice place. We didn't go to Deadhorse but we made a day trip as far north as we dared with the gas we had. You apparently have gas only at Coldfoot and Deadhorse and we weren't interested in being after dark getting back to Wiseman Village. The mosquitoes are pretty mean but we had spray for that. In any case the Boreal Lodging is highly recommended as long as you understand it's a cabin and don't expect a luxury hotel with swimming pool...

We were supposed to stay for one night in the Polar Cabin on June 28th on our drive up to Prudhoe Bay on Dalton Highway. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the reservation on the same day due to a wildfire that forced the road to be closed. That was a bummer, however, the interaction I had with Heidi was really comforting in the sense that she understood the situation. Over the few chats I had with her, whether by phone or email, it felt as if I was speaking to a friend. That human "touch" is very important when you are planning to be between strangers in unfamiliar places. It "screams" Good Business!! She provided us with useful information and helpful tips on how to prepare for the stay (food related, given the fact that the place is so remote). And even though we could not make it in the end, I cannot but believe that if we did, it would have been a wonderful experience. I will definitely stay there if/when I plan this trip again, and I would definitely recommend Boreal Lodge to anyone who dare to venture...
