Beach Road House||||Cabin 1||||Let’s cover the positives: Excellent bed. Excellent WiFi. Excellent access to Battery Point Trail and Ripley Trail (you can walk to the trailhead).||||It is also was nice that the owner contacted me before we arrived and said they wanted to upgrade us to Cabin 1 and that it had a better view. That was true.||||My wife and I are aware that we are traveling through Haines Alaska. This is a small community and not an easy one to get to. We have also traveled a lot and stayed in “Cabin” like lodging in many places in Alaska, so the following is written with extensive experience and what one should expect at a minimum.||||My conclusion is that the owner is trying to do the absolute minimum necessary to maintain the facility. ||||So here what was wrong: Outlets that are not able to hold plugs because they were defective; light bulbs missing and inadequate wattage with those that are inserted; pots whose handles are just about to fall off (and thus dangerous); supplying only one dish towel (come on, we were here for three nights); No paper towels; No tissue box in the bathroom; shampoo supplied in three packets (similar to those a fast food place would give you for ketchup) and there were two of us!; an uncomfortable couch and inadequate furniture( no end tables for example); windows lacking screens (this is mosquito country); lack of blinds and lack of the ability to darken the cabin at night (this is Alaska and it was June and the amount of daylight is extensive); the stairs leading up to the loft are not to code (watch that first step); railing that is not to code (I believe this was built by someone who built a deck railing). Don’t attempt to slide your hand down the rail. Also missing slats and missing (and extremely dangerous) railing on the loft (2nd floor).||||Would I recommend this place? No.||||We spent several days in Haines and we saw plenty of other places to stay that you should...
Read moreTodd was a great host. He manages this property by himself and was very friendly. The common lounge can use a tv and small speaker, maybe Bluetooth to connect for music while playing pool or board games. The projector isn't good enough during the day and can barely be heard. We do appreciate getting the wood burning stove going. The cabins were great. We used the propane BBQ grill for some home cooked meals from groceries we bought in town. Love that there was ground coffee in a mason jar ready to be made. Full kitchen, but couldnt find tongs for the grill. Might need to add that untensil. Loved the tile decor around the shower and the concrete counter top in bathroom. It was definitely a nice experience vs a standard hotel room. If you are going through Haines, highly recommended. Just know the great common lounge has projects underway (as of June 2025). But don't let that stop you. Would come back if I ever...
Read moreWe thought staying in the center of town is a mistake. Lately, there are more cruise ships stopping in Haines. If you are looking for experiencing the magic of this amazing community, then head off a mile out of town to the Beach Roadhouse. Their cabins are spotlessly clean, spacious, amazingly comfortable and with all the necessary amenities. On top of that, the wifi is strong. Amber is a wonderful and accommodating host and the location is magical. If you do not have a car and arrive by ferry, Amber will pick you up and drop you off, and she will also rent her car by the day at a very reasonable price. The starting point for the Battery Point walking trail is just a 5 minute walk down the road. We regretted not staying longer and will definitely be back. Highly...
